Digimon Adventure -Beyond- (デジモンアドベンチャー-BEYOND-, Dejimon Adobenchā -Beyond-) is a Digimon Animation 25th Anniversary PV.
Overview[edit]
Synopsis[edit]
Time has passed since that summer adventure, and there are even more children with partner Digimon now.
However, because of their unique nature, many children face the looming shadows of persecution and being targeted for military use.
While Taichi and Yamato are working to rescue children, they are attacked by mysterious Digimon.
Development[edit]
After the release of Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, Kakudou Hiroyuki, director of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, wrote an original script intended for fans who were dissatisfied with Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna and The Beginning, expressing hope that it might eventually be adapted into a film. He was later approached by Toei Animation to produce a short film for the Adventure series and chose to base it on this script. Kakudou agreed to the project on the condition that both the film and his script would be released simultaneously. The project was initially titled Digimon Adventure 13+, reflecting its 2013 setting, but was later renamed Digimon Adventure -Beyond- at a producer’s request. Although Toei Animation had agreed to publish the script alongside the film, it was ultimately not released. By May 2026, with no official release forthcoming, Kakudou published the script on his personal website, noting that it does not constitute an official release. He also reverted to the original title, Digimon Adventure 13+, for the script.[1] He explained that the title 13+ refers both to its setting in 2013 and to the involvement of 13 different timelines or universes in the story, while the + represents the possibility of series airing after Digimon Beatbreak. He also mentioned that he shared the script with Chiaki J. Konaka, who approved the inclusion of Matsuda Takato as a disembodied voice in the story (as the events of Digimon Tamers 2018 Blu-ray Box CD Drama Days ~Information and the Unordinary~ establishes the original Takato has gone missing).[2]
During the story of 13+, the Black Gears and Dark Towers return alongside swarms of "Black Digimon", who target the Adventure and 02 casts. The characters are eventually swarmed by armies of the "Black Digimon", who are from the World of Darkness. It’s at this time that a massive crossover unfolds featuring characters from every animated Digimon project from Adventure through Digimon Beatbreak, including Digital Monster X-Evolution—even though Beatbreak had not yet begun airing when -Beyond- was originally released. By contrast, the short only features the goggled protagonists from the first six series, rather than extending all the way to Beatbreak. It is mentioned that in the past, the casts of various series helped out Kudou Taiki in the world of Digimon Xros Wars, referring to the crossover event to help Akashi Tagiru defeat Quartzmon. Takato also notes to Ohwada Lui that Taichi's Agumon has crossed into the world of Appmon to assist Shinkai Haru before. These crossover events are remembered by Takato, Taiki, Taichi, Koshiro, Daisuke, and Ken in 13+. Daisuke mentions they had been de-aged to be the same age as Taichi for the Xros Wars crossover. In the same area as Daisuke's group and the Adventure: cast, was another group of elementary school-aged children including Daisuke; it's left vague whether this is a group from another world or from the past of the current world. During the 13+ crossover, the assembled characters battle the minions of Dijiangmon (evolved from Dagomon) and Demon, while Taichi and Yamato's Omegamon defeats the two Ultimate-level enemies themselves in one blow each.[1]
In Director Kakudou’s script, the characters and events depicted in Akiyama Ryo's games, Digimon Adventure 02: Digimon Hurricane Landing!!/Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals, Digimon Adventure tri., Last Evolution Kizuna, and The Beginning are stated not to have occurred within the main Adventure, 02, and 13+ continuity. Instead, characters originating from those works, such as Ichijouji Ken, Wallace, Mochizuki Meiko, Himekawa Maki, Nishijima Daigo, Menoa Bellucci, and Ohwada Lui, exist within the 13+ setting and retain memories of those events. However, other characters either recall these events only vaguely or do not remember them at all. For example, V-mon similarly has a vague recollection of evolving into Magnamon prior to the battle with Chimairamon, referencing the events of Hurricane Landing/Transcendent Evolution. Motomiya Daisuke recalls traveling with Wallace during that period, while Tachikawa Mimi remembers being physically de-aged during those events, consistent with the film’s portrayal. Mimi also recalls traveling with Meiko, referencing the events of tri. Wallace, Meiko, Maki, Daigo, and Lui are "marked" by the World of Darkness, however there is no mention of the actual cause of memories from alternate worlds carrying over to this one. As characters like Daigo, who was deceased in the world of tri., and characters like Menoa, who has a different appearance from her Kizuna self, are among this group, the implication is that they are from the world of 13+, with the memories of other worlds. Ken is such an example, as is Ryo from the world of Digimon Tamers, as the two have a vague recollection of each other when they meet. In contrast, Yagami Taichi and Izumi Koshiro have indistinct memories of the 1995 Hikarigaoka Incident, meaning the vague memories can also be unrelated to the above phenomenon, as Digimon Adventure (Movie) is still considered the past events of the 13+ world. After the battle against the World of Darkness, it is revealed that the events of The Beginning were actually false memories implanted in Lui's mind by Ukkomon in order to shield him from the truth. In reality, Lui's mother murdered his father and then attempted to kill Lui as well, but Ukkomon appeared and saved him. Because Lui was too young to process what had happened, Ukkomon fabricated years of false memories, including the claim that Lui was the first Chosen Child—a statement also contradicted by the movie’s own producers. Ukkomon additionally created fake memories of being defeated by the 02 cast so that it would be perceived as the villain instead of Lui's parents. Taichi later speaks directly to Ukkomon, revealing that it had remained alive as Lui's eye. He reassures Ukkomon that Lui is now an adult and no longer needs protection from the truth. Accepting this, Ukkomon finally departs. Afterward, Lui joins Menoa in travelling to the Digital World in the hope of reuniting with their partner Digimon, as Meiko, Maki, and Daigo also intend to do.[1]
Various elements presented in -Beyond- are given more context in this script, such as the network established by the Chosen Children around the world to help "Partner Humans" (an alternative term for those who were Chosen at a time when even adults were receiving Partner Digimon) escape from difficult situations. Taichi has met with the UN and gotten unofficial permission for their activities, which includes safeguarding Partner Humans in the Human World and in the Digital World, as well as battling rampaging Digimon and sending them back to the Digital World. Another element from -Beyond- given further context is the shots of various Armor Digimon. This group, led by Daisuke and the others, is called "Team A", representing a team of Partner Human and their Digimon that are capable of Armor Evolution. Using a smartphone Digivice, Daisuke and the others are capable of sharing the access to their Digimentals with multiple Digimon at once.
Story[edit]
Summary[edit]
At some point around or after the Digimon Adventure 02 epilogue, Takaishi Takeru wrote the next chapter of his story, which was already 13 books long. He explained to Patamon that it was about the events that led him to write said book, the 14th, which appeared on his bookcase.
At some point after Digimon Adventure 02, Yuri and Kuwagamon flew away as Hida Iori thanked Yuri for his help and asked him to let him take over from there in English. An unnamed International Chosen Child was with him, a Nordic Boy with a Kyaromon, with Armadimon also with them. Yagami Taichi, Ishida Yamato, Agumon and Gabumon turned around and walked away.
Inside a car in Northern Europe, in the back seats, Iori introduced himself in English as a Japanese high schooler to the unnamed nordic boy, then introduced Taichi and Yamato. While driving, and in Japanese, Yamato told Taichi to learn English too as it'd give him an edge when finding a job. Taichi answered he could speak a little French, which reminded Yamato that he had visited his grandfather in the past. Taichi then changed the topic and showed surprise that Yamato had an international driving license and Yamato answered it was the last request of his grandfather then told Taichi to get a driving license too as it could let him work in animation production, a job Taichi clearly disliked. From the trunk, Agumon and Gabumon stopped their conversation as they smelled a Digimon incoming. Armadimon added, in English, that it was behind them, and Iori realized it was too big to be Yuri's Kuwagamon. Said Digimon, a Yatagaramon, tried to ram the car but Yamato managed to avoid it. As Yatagaramon came back, Taichi asked Iori if he could open a Digital Gate from a smartphone. Iori answered he needed it to have signal, which Taichi's smartphone thankfully did, so he ordered the younger Chosen Child to open a Gate and leave with the unnamed nordic boy. Yatagaramon tried to ram the car again but Yamato managed to avoid it. Accepting the situation, Iori rose his D-3 and opened the Digital Gate. He told the unnamed nordic boy to go first, then followed alongside Armadimon. With them gone, Gabumon asked what they should do but Yamato thought it was obvious. Taichi and Yamato grabbed their Digivices and evolved Agumon and Gabumon into Greymon and Garurumon, who left the trunk during the evolution.
The short then switched to an unknown period and went through multiple separate scenes:
- In Aomori, Kido Shuu and Takeru alongside Ohwada Lui, seen from behind, in a park or forest.
- In a darker place, Izumi Koshiro looked at his computer.
- Yagami Hikari locked Mochizuki Meiko behind a door in a protected area then grabbed her head in pain as darkness approached her.
- Tachikawa Mimi ordered Togemon forward.
- Takenouchi Sora jumped off of Birdramon.
- At night in Kanagawa, Kido Jo put on his doctor coat as he rode on Ikkakumon who swum over the sea.
- Mimi and Togemon defeated some kind of darkness and caused a pillar to collapse.
- Koshiro had Kabuterimon charge up a Mega Blaster.
- At the Kido Shin Health Center, Jo ran past his brother Shin, then froze in place.
- Greymon and Garurumon attempted to tackle Yatagaramon but both got shaken off.
- Tailmon punched the darkness that attempted to take Hikari.
- Greymon used Mega Flame on Yatagaramon, causing an explosion on impact.[N 1]
- Kabuterimon let loose his Mega Blaster on a machine, causing a barrier to expand from it.
- With Himekawa Maki hidden in a room, Jo and Gomamon looked at a terrified Motomiya Jun and Archnemon.
- Sora, Hikari, Piyomon and Tailmon ran forward.
- In the hallway of Izumi's laboratory, Koshiro and Takeru, alongside Tentomon and Patamon, waved at each other then ran in opposite directions.
- Under a starry sky, after facing with Yatagaramon, Taichi sat up alongside a serious Yamato, Agumon and Gabumon.
- In the Digital World, Were Garurumon and Metal Greymon, the latter with a Giga Destroyer, broke a wall and went through it, with their respective Chosen Children riding them.
- Sora waited on a cliff as Birdramon flew towards an oncoming Black Gears and let loose fire by spinning against it.
- A light appeared from the darkness and Taichi stretched his arm towards it. Taichi, Agumon, Yamato and Gabumon were then surrounded by said light.
- In the Digital World, Motomiya Daisuke, Ichijouji Ken, V-mon and Wormmon prepared to fight over a cliff, with multiple others looking at them.
- Nefertimon and Holsmon flew on a starry night sky, with Hikari and Inoue Miyako riding them.
- Daisuke cheerfully said something while Ken looked forward, serious.
- Nefertimon, four Holsmon, and another unseen Digimon flew in six different directions, opening up a barrier.
- In the Digital World, Palmon swung from tree to tree with her extended fingers, with Mimi holding on to her legs.
- Daisuke rode on Lighdramon who ran through a grassy area alongside other grounded Armor Digimon (Boarmon, Elephamon, Goatmon, Lynxmon and Bullmon).
- In the Digital World, Ken raised his fist to the sky as Pucchiemon flew forward followed by other flying Armor Digimon (Pipismon, Searchmon, Harpymon, Thunderbirmon, Flybeemon, Pteranomon and Honeybeemon).
- Iori commanded Submarimon from inside him as he swum under the sea, surrounded by other marine Armor Digimon (Archelomon, Tylomon, Mantaraymon, Manbomon, Orcamon, Depthmon, Seahomon).
- In the Digital World, inside the darkness, Takeru turned back towards Patamon, then both continued forward.
- Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode flew towards the castle that appears in his evolution sequence.
As the footage cycled through the goggles of every leader showing the prior short, Agumon complained that their battle never ended. Taichi added it was just getting started but they couldn't afford to lose. Yamato added they couldn't so long as people believed in them. As they said this, the goggles faded towards the logo of Digimon Adventure -Beyond-. Showing the characters once again, Gabumon and Agumon promised to fight and their Chosen Children agreed with them. They then warp evolved into War Greymon and Metal Garurumon and, clad in light of their respective colours, flew towards the sky.
