Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning (デジモンアドベンチャー02 THE BEGINNING Dejimon Adobenchā 02 The Beginning) is an upcoming feature film. It is a direct sequel to Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, and the fourth major sequel production for Digimon Adventure. It will feature the cast of Digimon Adventure 02. It will premiere in Japanese theaters on October 27, 2023, though will first air on October 5 at Shinjuku Wald 9.[1]

Premise[edit]
In February 2012,[2] a giant Digitama appears in the sky.[3] Motomiya Daisuke and his group of Chosen Children intervene to save a young man, Ohwada Lui, from falling from Tokyo Tower. Lui claims to them that he was the world's first Chosen Child.[4]

The Beginning—at the time, with no publicly revealed title—was first announced at on August 1, 2021 at DigiFes 2021, alongside Digimon Ghost Game, in the form of a teaser poster with a simple, monochromatic style. A teaser trailer was also released, consisting of narration from Motomiya Daisuke while the teaser poster is shown.[3]
The film's primary creative staff and key art of the main cast were announced and revealed at DigiFes 2022;[2] before DigiFes itself, Kinoshita Yōsuke appeared on a pre-event stream on July 20 to preview redacted scripts and storyboards from the ramen restaurant scene early in the film, during which its title was revealed.[8] Several minutes from the beginning of the film were also shown at DigiFes 2022, depicting the same events described by Daisuke in the teaser trailer and the Chosen Children's first encounter with Ohwada Lui.[4]
On March 25, 2023, Toei Animation announced that The Beginning would be released on October 27, 2023, and released a teaser trailer and a second teaser poster.[6] The film's trailer and poster were both released during DigiFes 2023 on July 30, 2023.[7]
In the lead-up to the release of The Beginning, Tokyo MX rebroadcast a selection of episodes of Digimon Adventure 02 from July 4, 2023 onward.[9]
