Digimon Adventure (series)
Digimon Adventure (デジモンアドベンチャー, Dejimon Adobenchā) is a sub-series within the Digimon franchise, consisting primarily of two animated series, but also numerous movies, specials, a manga, and several video games. It is based on one primary continuity and features the adventures of the Chosen Children and their Digimon.
Overview[edit]
While the brand debuted in 1998 with the release of Digimon Adventure: V-Tamer 01, a largely autonomous manga series, the series is better known for the universe introduced a year later, in 1999, with Digimon Adventure. The animated series features seven children who suddenly find themselves in a distinct world filled with strange creatures. Digimon Adventure sets some of the elements the franchise becomes best known for; the development of the relationships between the Digimon and their Tamers, the circumstances of their raising and evolution, and the hardships the group goes through to bring peace to the Digital World. Characters like Taichi and Agumon quickly became the signature of the franchise, branching off numerous merchandise and media.
Digimon Adventure 02 followed the first series in 2000, featuring a similar premise and set three years after the events of the former. A number of movies, specials, as well as video games have made their appearance both between the two series and after Adventure 02's debut. Two movies covering the operations of Diablomon, each of them set shortly after the main events of each of the series, would be the most notable. A video game series featuring the character Ryo is also popular among fans. Branching among Digimon Adventure, its sequel, as well as the separate continuity of Digimon Tamers with its final release, it becomes the first occurrence of a cross-continuity crossover in the franchise. Other crossovers, both with and without strong canonical significance have also occurred through the years.
Digimon Adventure tri. released in 2015 once again features the return of Taichi and the original Chosen Children from the original Digimon Adventure series, now in high school.
The reboot of the original series called Digimon Adventure:, released and set in 2020, is not part of this continuity.
