Digimon Adventure tri. (デジモンアドベンチャー tri., Dejimon Adobenchā torai), often shortened as Digimon tri. (デジモン tri., Dejimon torai)[1], is the 9th animated movie of the Digimon franchise. It was released as six separate films. This series is part of the Digimon Adventure 15th Anniversary. [N 1]
History[edit]
Announced during the Odaiba Memorial concert celebrating the 15th anniversary of Digimon Adventure, the movies take places three years after the events of Digimon Adventure 02 when Yagami Taichi is 17 years old.
On August 01, 2014, a Digitama appeared on the Digimon Adventure website and must be clicked (nade-nade) a total of 1 million times to hatch, which will release new information for the series. Apparently the fandom has nade-nade'd too hard, and within the last 61,000 clicks, Scumon has appeared to block the way, requiring another 500,000 clicks to shoo it off. There is also a mini-game on the website where players can type in the names of phrases in either kana or romaji as they appear on the screen, with the final phrase being only in Digimoji which must be filled in correctly before the timer runs out. Completing the game takes off another 20 clicks from the egg counter.
According to the producer Arai Shuhei, the series was inspired by the fact that Digimon World Re:Digitize was a success with an older audience with the very unique style of Yasuda Suzuhito. They hence got Uki Atsuya to see if the artist could capture the same feeling.
Story[edit]
Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 1 "Reunion"[edit]
The Chosen Children go on their daily lives until a Kuwagamon attacked. Taichi reunites with Agumon and fights it using Greymon, but two more Kuwagamon spawned and overwhelmed him before the rest of the Chosen Children appear with their own Digimon. The battle caused massive collateral damage, which would become a source of worry for Taichi for the rest of the episode. Eventually, they encounter Mochizuki Meiko and Meicoomon, who were targeted by an Alphamon who ignored defeated most of the Chosen Children's Digimon with ease and was walking towards them. After arguing with Yamato for a while, Taichi decides to act and they use their own Digimon to distract Alphamon and gain its attention. It shrugs off most of their attacks, so Yamato's Metal Garurumon and Taichi's War Greymon combine into Omegamon to give it a fair fight. Omegamon and Alphamon: Ouryuken fight to a stalemate before it escapes into a distortion while Omegamon is still charging its Garuru Cannon. Meiko then introduces her to the Chosen Children, and tells them that the Digimon she is holding is her partner Digimon, Meicoomon.
Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 2 "Determination"[edit]
A Mysterious Man taking the form of the Digimon Kaiser destroyed the Village of Beginnings while an infected Orgemon fights Leomon eventually infecting Leomon as well. Both then entire the human world through a distortion. In the movie proper, the Chosen Children gets to know Meiko and spends him with her and Meicoomon in the Onsen. After that, the same Orgemon went onto a rampage in the human world and Tachikawa Mimi recklessly goes to confront the Orgemon alone to restore Digimon-human relations in front of the media. Her efforts failed catastrophically as Togemon accidentally destroys a media helicopter and ends up being defeated by Orgemon, but Leomon interferes and defeats it. The incident worsened human-Digimon relations. At the meantime, Kido Jo's Gomamon went out of his way to be as mean as possible to Jo, even asking Kōshirō to lie for him that he was not in his office. Everyone, alongside Leomon, then attended the school festival, where the Mysterious Man snagged Meicoomon. Palmon and Gomamon entered the distortion to save Meicoomon, but were attacked by a blackened and infected Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode summoned by the Mysterious Man. Despite being initially overwhelmed, Mimi's confidence with her selfishness and Jo's desire to repair relationships with Gomamon caused the two to respectively evolve into Rosemon and Vikemon, slaying it and saving Meicoomon. However, Meicoomon, when staring at Leomon, was reminded of his infected state and turns into her Saltation form to kill him instantly, then escapes.
Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 3 "Confession"[edit]
Starting from Takaishi Takeru's Patamon, the Chosen Children discover that their Digimon were infected through getting near Meicoomon, while Takenouchi Sora helps Meiko overcome her grief of losing her. Homeostasis possesses Yagami Hikari's body to speak to the Chosen Children's Digimon, telling them that the infection will cause all electronics to cease to function and erase the Digital World alongside all Digimon from it, and threatens to start a Reboot of the Digital World, which would wipe away all of the Digimon's memories and all traces of the infection in the human world. The Chosen Children then find Meicoomon rampaging as Meicrackmon: Vicious Mode and go into the distortion to stop her, only for all of their Digimon to deteriorate into berserk monsters one by one because of the infection, while the reboot begins in 10 minutes. Kōshirō and Tentomon attempts to stop all of his infected comrades before he himself becomes infected as well, successfully doing so when Tentomon evolves into Herakle Kabuterimon and manages to stall them off as the Reboot kicks off. All network systems are restored and all traces of the infection are removed, but the Chosen Children lose all of their partner Digimon. Unsatisfied, the Chosen Children, Nishijima Daigo and Himekawa Maki devise a plan for the Chosen Children to take their partners back. The story then flashes back to when Meiko first met Meicoomon, and Takeru trying to ease Meiko off from her guilt. The movie ends with the Chosen Children using their crests to enter the Digital World.
