Urushido Sachiko, color designer on tri., also participated in the design process and helped to determine its color scheme. According to tri. director Motonaga Keitarō, the direction of the design of the Digimon that became Meicoomon was shaped by previously established plans for its role in tri.'s plot—namely, the events of "Coexistence", in which Mochizuki Meiko's Meicoomon (as Raguelmon) fuses with Yagami Hikari's Tailmon (as Ofanimon: Falldown Mode) to become Ordinemon. As such, Meicoomon was designed to be related to Tailmon, although the possibility of making it a dog Digimon instead was also considered at first. Since Tailmon is a short-haired cat, Meicoomon was designed to be a lion-like, long-haired cat; specifically, it was modeled and named after the Maine Coon breed, based on Motonaga's own pet Maine Coon. According to Urushido, orange was chosen as Meicoomon's fur color to follow the model of Motonaga's pet cat, but they had difficulty choosing a particular hue of orange, in part due to the similarity to Patamon's coloration. Initially, Meicoomon had a reddish-brown hue similar to that of Meicrackmon: Vicious Mode, but this did not fit in well with the other eight Digimon Adventure partner Digimon, so it was ultimately changed to a brighter hue to fit better with them. During the design process, Watanabe was asked to add a design element that reflects the tri. plot point about Meicoomon having a shard of Apocalymon's data in her. To fulfill this request, he focused on Meicoomon's feelers/scarf, which in the finalized design have a double-helix pattern and shape that is somewhat reminiscent of Apocalymon's tentacles. In tri., Meicoomon is depicted as entering a second state (pictured right)—referred to as Saltation (豹変時 Hyōhen-ji) in some materials—when she is triggered by fear and pain. For the benefit of this transformation, among other details, Meicoomon was given cross-shaped pupils early on, so that they could rotate from a + orientation in Meicoomon's ordinary state, to a × orientation for Saltation. Other changes experienced in the Saltation transformation include wilder and bushier tufts of white fur, sharply elongated ears, and elongated red claws. Meicoomon's Saltation state has never appeared in any Digimon media other than tri. Meicoomon has never had any unique Baby I, Baby II or Child forms of its own in any Digimon media, and is most commonly depicted as just evolving from Plotmon, Tailmon's Child form. Two unnamed "Mysterious Digimon" consisting of recolors of Nyaromon and Plotmon appeared in a promotional campaign for tri. in a NTT DoCoMo smartphone service in 2015/2016; judging from their download URL and color schemes, they were intended to be Baby and Child forms for Meicoomon, although Meicoomon itself did not appear in the promotion and these two Digimon have never appeared in anything else.

Meicoomon is the partner Digimon of Mochizuki Meiko. She is also known as the Libra: a Digimon of an unknown destructive power who has a shard of Apocalymon's data in her. She is the cause of the Infected Digimon and the distortions, although she is not aware of this, and she is hunted by Alphamon and the Mysterious Man to use for their own ends.

Digimon Ghost Game

Meicoomon is a previous victim of the Betsumon Gang. He lost everything that he had in life when a Betsumon impersonated and, eventually, replaced him, and began to question his own identity.

In "Who Are You?", Meicoomon approaches Gammamon after he also falls victim to the Betsumon gang. He tells Gammamon about his own experiences with the Betsumon Gang and what they cost him, before vanishing, having accepted that his fate is to be forgotten.
