Digimon Xros Wars: The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdoms (デジモンクロスウォーズ~悪のデスジェネラルと七人の王国~ Dejimon Kurosu Wōzu ~Aku no Desu Jeneraru to Nanajin no Oukoku~) is the second season of Digimon Xros Wars, produced by Toei Animation. It aired in Japan on TV Asahi from April 3 to September 25, 2011, in the Sunday 6:30 AM (UTC+9) timeslot.
Continuing directly from the previous season, the story follows Kudou Taiki and Shoutmon as they return to a Digital World conquered and reorganized by Bagramon. Together with Aonuma Kiriha and Amano Nene, they undertake a campaign to liberate seven kingdoms ruled by the Death Generals. The season concludes the war against the Bagra Army and is followed by Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time.
Story
After defeating Tactimon in the Real World, Kudou Taiki and Shoutmon return to the Digital World with Omegamon's assistance. Hinomoto Akari and Tsurugi Zenjirou remain behind, as only one human can accompany Shoutmon. Upon arriving, Taiki discovers that Bagramon has used the completed Code Crown to replace the former Zones with seven Lands surrounding the Bagra Pandemonium.
Each kingdom is governed by a Death General: Dorbickmon rules Dragon Land, Neo Vamdemon rules Vampire Land, Zamielmon rules Honey Land, Splashmon rules Cyber Land, Olegmon rules Gold Land, Gravimon rules Canyon Land, and Apollomon rules Bright Land. Under Dark Knightmon's command, they oppress their subjects and gather negative energy for D5, Bagramon's planned "Day of Ultimate Destruction". Their copies of the Darkness Loader allow them to forcibly combine Digimon through DigiXros.
Taiki reunites with Aonuma Kiriha and Amano Nene, who have continued resisting the Bagra Army during his absence. The three Generals cooperate to liberate the kingdoms, bringing together the forces of Xros Heart and Blue Flare. Their campaign depends on both their partners' growing strength and their ability to overcome the mistrust left by their earlier rivalries.
Shoutmon's evolution into Omega Shoutmon gives Xros Heart a new means of confronting the Death Generals. Kiriha's partner also achieves a stronger form, Zeke Greymon, and the two can combine into Shoutmon DX. As the allied army advances, it gains further companions, including Mervamon, who joins Nene after resisting Zamielmon's rule in Honey Land.
Nene's search for her younger brother, Amano Yuu, takes an unexpected turn when he reveals himself as an enemy General. Dark Knightmon has convinced him that the Digital World is merely a game, that its inhabitants cannot truly die, and that even humans defeated there will remain unharmed in the Real World. Believing these claims, Yuu enthusiastically commands the Bagra Army and treats the suffering caused by his actions as part of the entertainment. Taiki and Nene attempt to reach him, but he initially refuses to accept their warnings.
The alliance is also tested by Kiriha's fixation on strength. In Canyon Land, Gravimon exploits his insecurities and drives him into conflict with his companions. Deckerdramon's sacrifice forces Kiriha to confront the consequences of his behavior and recognize the importance of the bonds he has formed. Taiki, Kiriha, and Nene then unite their powers through Great Xros, combining their Digimon into Shoutmon X7 and overcoming Gravimon.
In Bright Land, the struggle against the Bagra Army becomes intertwined with Yuu's awakening. His confrontation with Taiki in Hell's Field begins to undermine his belief that the conflict is a harmless game. When Damemon, his closest companion, dies from wounds sustained during the battle, Yuu finally understands that the lives lost were real. Dark Knightmon exploits his resulting despair to power the Darkness Loader, but Taiki rescues him and gives him an opportunity to oppose the army he once commanded.
The defeat of the Death Generals does not prevent the activation of D5. The negative energy gathered from the kingdoms is used to transform the Code Crown into the Dark Stone, which Bagramon absorbs. He opens a passage into the Real World and begins draining its energy, threatening to destroy the barriers between dimensions and bring them under his control.
Dark Knightmon attempts to seize this power by betraying Bagramon and forcibly combining with him into Darkness Bagramon. However, Bagramon's consciousness overwhelms his younger brother and takes control of their combined body. As the attack reaches the Real World, Akari and Zenjirou rejoin the resistance, while Yuu transforms the Darkness Loader into a yellow Xros Loader and fights alongside Xros Heart.
Despite their combined efforts, the Generals are unable to defeat Darkness Bagramon through Shoutmon X7 alone. With the assistance of the DigiMemories, Taiki reaches Shoutmon within the Dark Stone. The Code Crown ultimately chooses Taiki, allowing him to gather the power of Digimon throughout the Digital World through a Final Xros. Their united strength creates Shoutmon X7: Superior Mode, who destroys Darkness Bagramon and ends the war.
With the Digital World restored, Shoutmon returns there with the Code Crown, fulfilling his ambition to become the Digimon King. Taiki and the other humans return to their own world, while their Digimon companions remain to rebuild the peace they fought to achieve.
