Digimon Battle Walker (デジモンバトルウォーカー, Dejimon Batoru Wōkā) is a video game.
It was a location-based arcade game developed by Bandai as part of the Mall Adventure service. Based on Digimon Xros Wars, it began operation on July 10, 2010, at the Molly Fantasy indoor amusement park on the third floor of the AEON Yono Shopping Center in Saitama Prefecture.[1]
Unlike a conventional arcade game, Digimon Battle Walker was played using a portable terminal that participants carried with them while exploring the shopping center. Each session lasted approximately 30 minutes and cost ¥500.[2]
Overview[edit]
Digimon Battle Walker was presented as a "near-future adventure" in which Digimon could be discovered within the real world. Players explored the shopping center with a portable game terminal, encountering Digimon and taking part in battles as they progressed.[2]
To participate, the player purchased an ID card containing an identification number, password, and barcode. The barcode was read by the portable terminal at the beginning of a session, allowing the player's progress to be saved and resumed during later visits.
The ID number and password could also be used to log into the official Mall Adventure website. Registered players could consult their game data and rankings, play web-based minigames, and obtain items for use in the attraction. The website contained separate sections for game information, player data, rankings, and online games.[3]
Gameplay[edit]
The player assumes the role of a General and travels with a partner Digimon, with the objective of exploring the available territory, defeating enemy Digimon, and becoming the strongest General.
The game combines physical exploration of the shopping center with gameplay on the portable terminal. Its environments include grasslands, seas, and several other types of areas. While exploring them, the player can encounter Digimon, collect Digimon Dice, and obtain items that can later be used in battle.
During battles, the player selects from the techniques available to their Digimon. Different Digimon possess different techniques, while collected items can provide advantages against powerful enemies.
Because progress is associated with the player's ID card, an adventure does not have to be completed during a single 30-minute session. The saved data can be accessed again when the player returns and begins another session.
Release[edit]
Digimon Battle Walker began operation on July 10, 2010. It was offered exclusively through the Mall Adventure installation at the Molly Fantasy indoor amusement park in AEON Yono Shopping Center, located at 5-2-9 Honmachi-Nishi, Chūō Ward, Saitama, Saitama Prefecture.[1]
The attraction was advertised in V Jump as a game in which players could "adventure inside a department store" and encounter Digimon while walking through the shopping center. The same feature identified Bandai as the game's manufacturer and listed the price as ¥500, including tax, for one 30-minute session.[2]
