A General (ジェネラル, Jeneraru) is a human who commands a Digimon Army using a Xros Loader. Rather than fighting alongside only one partner, a General coordinates multiple Digimon and performs DigiXros to combine their abilities. The Xros Loader also allows them to store, heal, and Reload their Digimon, making it central to the army's activities.

In the Digimon Xros Wars manga, the ability to operate a Xros Loader and perform DigiXros is associated with an innate trait known as the Xros Code.

In Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time, several former Generals become Digimon Hunters. Although both roles use Xros Loaders, Hunters focus on capturing Digimon in DigiQuartz.

Digimon Xros Wars & The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdoms

Kudou Taiki, Aonuma Kiriha, and Amano Nene serve as the Generals of Xros Heart, Blue Flare, and Twilight, respectively. Their armies initially pursue separate objectives, and their relationships range from rivalry to cooperation.

Generals direct their Digimon in battle and select the combinations used in DigiXros. They also use their Xros Loaders to transport their armies and heal injured members. By inserting a Code Crown into the device, they can open a route between Zones.

Taiki becomes a General after receiving a Xros Loader when he responds to Shoutmon's call for help. His leadership supports Shoutmon's ambition to become the Digimon King and brings together the Digimon who join Xros Heart.

Taiki, Kiriha, and Nene cooperate against the Bagra Army after the Digital World is reorganized into seven Lands. Their cooperation extends to combining Digimon from different armies through techniques such as Double Xros and Great Xros.

Amano Yuu serves as a General on the opposing side, using a Darkness Loader to command Digimon under Dark Knightmon's influence. Following the final battle, his Darkness Loader becomes a yellow Xros Loader.

The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time

Taiki and Yuu participate in the Digimon Hunt as Hunters. They retain their Xros Loaders and their relationships with Shoutmon and Damemon, respectively, but operate under the conditions imposed by DigiQuartz.

The transition from General to Hunter does not require a different model of device. The Xros Loader is used to capture and Reload hunted Digimon, while DigiXros within DigiQuartz is normally restricted to two Digimon.

Generals possess Xros Code, an innate energy that enables them to operate Xros Loaders and perform DigiXros. This makes their abilities important to Dark Knightmon's plans to develop the Darkness Loader.

Dark Knightmon seeks to exploit the Xros Codes of Amano Nene and Amano Kotone, together with that of either Kudou Taiki or Aonuma Kiriha. He initially claims that using Xros Code can exhaust its bearer's life energy, but this is later revealed to be a lie intended to manipulate Nene.

The manga's Generals include Taiki, Kiriha, Nene, and Kotone. Hinomoto Akari and Tsurugi Zenjirou also obtain Xros Loaders and become Generals, partnering with Dorulumon and Ballistamon, respectively.

Video Games

Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars Blue & Red

Kudou Taiki serves as the General of Xros Heart in both versions, leading his companions through LS-tou Zone after they are transported there by a mysterious melody. In battle, the player commands the party's Digimon and uses DigiXros to combine them and unleash powerful techniques.

The opposing General differs between versions. In Blue, Aonuma Kiriha leads Blue Flare, accompanied by Greymon and Mail Birdramon. In Red, Amano Nene leads Twilight, accompanied by Skull Knightmon and Deadly Axemon. Both Generals confront Taiki's group while seeking to obtain Spadamon for their respective purposes.

As a General, Taiki can also command Digimon recruited from the rival army and perform DigiXros using members of both armies. These combinations include Shoutmon X3GM, formed with Greymon and Mail Birdramon in Blue, and Shoutmon X3SD, formed with Skull Knightmon and Deadly Axemon in Red.

Kudou Taiki is the General of Team Xros Heart, as Shoutmon explains in Episode 72, "Shout! Omega Shoutmon".

Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode

The Xros Loader accessory is described as the tool of a Digimon General as well as the symbol of a Digimon Hunter.

Digimon Xros Wars Super Digica Taisen

In Digimon Xros Wars Super Digica Taisen, a General serves as the player's avatar and commander. After selecting a game mode, the player chooses a General before forming their Digimon army and entering a stage. The selected General determines the species of Nanomon accompanying the army and has favorable compatibility with particular D-Skill attributes. In the original battle system, the available Generals included Kudou Taiki, Aonuma Kiriha, and Amano Nene, with the Three Head Officers, Yagami Taichi, and Dark Knightmon subsequently becoming selectable.

Beginning with Version 5, the game was renewed as General Strikers and the role of the General was expanded through the introduction of General Commands, whose effectiveness varies depending on the selected General. The Three Head Officers were removed from the General selection, while numerous characters from previous Digimon series were introduced as playable Generals. Amano Yuu and Bagramon were also made selectable during the General Strikers versions. The game does not limit the title of General to human characters, as Digimon such as the Three Head Officers, Dark Knightmon, and Bagramon can also command the player's army.

Digimon Card Game

"General" is a trait given to the Tamer cards that were Generals in the Digimon Xros Wars anime, introduced in BT-10 Xros Encounter. General cards have effects that support DigiXros.
