The DigiColosseum (デジコロシアム, Deji Koroshiamu) is a battle arena featured in the Digimon Story series. It hosts tournaments and other competitions in which Tamers and their Digimon test their strength.
Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
Digimon Story: Sunburst & Moonlight[edit]
The DigiColosseum hosts Tamer rank advancement examinations, as well as wireless and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection battles. Its lobby contains reception counters and Digimon who explain the available services. Leomon handles entry to the advancement examinations, Bancho Leomon distributes promotion rewards, and Darkdramon awards prizes according to the player's Tamer Points.[1]
During the post-game quest "The Legendary Tamer", the player represents Light Fang in Sunburst or Night Crow in Moonlight in a tournament that includes visitors from other Digital Worlds. The quest becomes available after the player reaches Platinum Tamer rank, completes the Gaia Origin Challenge, and uses wireless communication.[2][3]
The first opponent is Sayo in Sunburst or Koh in Moonlight. The subsequent contestants include Tsurugi, Yuu, and Shou from Digimon Next, followed by Yoshino and Ikuto, and then Masaru and Thoma from Digimon Savers. A younger Kogure Haruhiko is the final opponent, fighting with a Level 99 Chronomon Holy Mode. Defeating him allows the player to attain Legend Tamer rank, and Kogure gives the player Chicchimon Scan Data.[4]
Digimon Story: Lost Evolution[edit]
The Colosseum is located in Grabo Central and becomes accessible as the story progresses. It can be reached from Central Port, and a Wizarmon later provides direct transportation to it.[5]
It hosts the World Championship. The player enters by speaking to Minomon after meeting the tournament's requirements. Darkdramon distributes rewards, while Pandamon supplies recovery items. The final stage includes a battle against Rosemon: Burst Mode, Valdurmon, and Ancient Megatheriumon, followed by Ex-Eraser Ω. After Kernel appears, the player fights three Shift Erasers before returning to the DigiBase.[6]
Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars Blue & Red[edit]
The DigiColosseum is a legendary battle arena in Colosseum Zone. After Omega Armamon Burst Mode is defeated and peace returns to the LS-tou Zone, a portal becomes connected to it. Spadamon explains that these portals appear only in peaceful Zones and invites Taiki to challenge the heroes who have saved the Digital World.[7]
Description[edit]
Lucemon welcomes Taiki and describes the DigiColosseum as an ancient arena at the center of the Digital World, transcending time and space. It says that the DigiColosseum would perish with the Digital World and is, in a sense, the Digital World itself. Although entry is restricted to chosen Digimon, it also welcomes those who support their battles, including Team Leaders, Tamers, Breeders, and Generals. Lucemon has heard about Taiki's efforts to help a Weapon Digimon recover its memories and praises his ability to raise and strengthen Digimon.[8]
Minomon handles registration for the DWM Tournament. DWM stands for "Digital World Master", and its five Master ranks are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Legend. Challengers improve their rank by defeating the corresponding Battle Masters. Advancement grants titles and rewards, including items available only at the DigiColosseum.[9]
Darkdramon works at the reward counter and claims extensive knowledge of anyone strong enough to reach the DigiColosseum, including their personality, partners, hobbies, habits, likes, and dislikes. Among the spectators is an Alphamon who is an enthusiastic fan of Sayo and calls itself a "Sayorer". Other spectators include Justimon and Lilimon.[10][9]
DWM Tournament[edit]
The Referee introduces Taiki as the General of Xros Heart and announces the opposing Battle Masters.
| Rank | Battle Master | Team |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Kogure Haruhiko | Chrono (クロノ, Kurono) |
| Silver | Koh | Sunburst (サンバースト, Sanbāsuto) |
| Gold | Sayo | Moonlight (ムーンライト, Mūnraito) |
| Platinum | Bandits | Bandits (バンディッツ, Bandittsu) |
| Legend | Koromon | Immortal Brave (イモータルブレイブ, Imōtaru Bureibu) |
Kogure states that he has fought at the DigiColosseum since its establishment. After his defeat, he advises Taiki that what matters is how he obtains his rank and what he does afterwards. Koh considers himself a challenger rather than simply a master. Sayo has heard of Taiki and the new generation that uses DigiXros; after losing, she reminds him of the responsibilities that accompany Gold Master rank.[9]
The Platinum challenge consists of successive battles against Uno, Dos, and Tres, followed by their combined Ex-Eraser Ω form. During the challenge, Tres complains that Kernel has escaped from the Archive and repeatedly reboots whenever she tries to eliminate it. Uno blames Dos for allowing it to escape.[11]
For the Legend challenge, Koromon leads Immortal Brave, an all-star team selected from the refined data of the Digital World's rivals, departed heroes, dreams, and legends. Taiki recalls a story about a small, shaggy black Digimon that grew enormous and became an occasion for humans to learn about the Digital World, wondering whether this is the Koromon from that story. The Referee treats the episode as one of the team's many legendary achievements.[12]
After Xros Heart wins, Koromon acknowledges Taiki. The Referee interprets the outcome as acceptance of a generational change in the Digital World. Taiki thanks Koromon and promises to honor the reputation entrusted to him by the heroes who made his own journey possible.[12]
Related Facilities[edit]
Digi-Arena[edit]
In Digimon Story, a comparable battle facility is the Digi-Arena (デジアリーナ, Deji Arīna) in Digi-Central, operated by Leomon. After becoming a Platinum Tamer, the player is instructed by Clavis Angemon to defeat three Tamers there: Chris, Mako, and Robert. These opponents can subsequently be challenged again.[13][14]
