A Tamer (テイマー Teimā) is a generic term used across the Digimon franchise to refer to any human who raises a partner Digimon. It is a more generic umbrella term incorporating similar, more specific concepts such as Chosen Children, Generals and Digimon Hunters; however, these more specific terms often carry further qualifications necessary; for example, unlike a Chosen Child, a Tamer does not need to be selected by a higher power and does not need to embody any specific traits. Additionally, unlike more specific roles, a Tamer is not necessarily bound to a specific job or destiny in their work as a Tamer; while many tend to become involved in the defense of the Digital World from one or several threats, there are others who merely travel the Digital World with their partner Digimon to train them in combat.
Tamers often possess some form of Digivice, enabling their partner Digimon to artificially evolve; they tend to have some degree of influence over their partner Digimon's evolution even if they do not own a Digivice. Most known Tamers possess a single Digimon, though owning multiple Digimon is not unheard of. As with Chosen Children, while it is most common for children and early teens to be Tamers, adult Tamers who received their Digimon in adulthood do exist.
Known Tamers[edit]
These are individuals who are either specifically called Tamers or are not known by any subcategory label like Chosen Child, General, Appli Driver, or Digimon Hunter; members of said subcategories are, however, also Tamers by default.

Tamer Cards (「テイマーカード」) are cards depicting human characters or characters that took human form (whether they were Tamers in their original series or not), used to support Digimon Cards in battle. Tamer cards may represent one or more Tamers. Unlike Option Cards, Tamer Cards remain on the field after being played.
Tamers tend to have effects that reference their series of origin. For instance, Tamers from Digimon Frontier have Evolution Source Effects to be more useful for Hybrid Digimon evolved from them, Tamers from Digimon Xros Wars have the General trait and effects that facilitate performing DigiXros, Tamers from Digimon Seekers have Mindlink effects, etc. They may also have effects that target their original Partner Digimon.
