This card was formerly part of a banned pair due to the 2024 January 5 banlist, taking effect the same day (around the start of the BT-16 format).A: [EX5-065 Sayo & Koh] B: [P-097 Zubamon], [BT13-102 Ikuto], [ST16-14 Ishida Yamato] The stated reasoning was: It has been verified that [EX5-065 Sayo & Koh]'s Beginning of Opponent's Turn effect can combine with [P-097 Zubamon]'s When Played effect to immediately end the opponent's turn repeatedly. The conditions can be satisfied from the earlygame and are hard to counter, and once online the game will proceed without the opponent able to make any actions until it concludes. We have determined that this forms an unhealthy pattern of play compared to the original card game experience where both players can use cards and take turns. Furthermore, we have confirmed that it is also easy to perform the abovementioned actions using [BT13-102 Ikuto] and [ST16-14 Ishida Yamato]. For the above reasons, we have decided to ban [EX5-065 Sayo & Koh] from being included in the same deck as [P-097 Zubamon], [BT13-102 Ikuto], or [ST16-14 Ishida Yamato].[1] The card was later banned by the 2025 August 23 banlist, taking effect on 2025 September 1 (around the tail end of the BT-22 format). The stated reasoning was: The combination of "effects that activate at the start of the opponent's turn" with "effects that gain memory" allows the player to immediately end the opponent's turn, and we decided that allowing this move to be repeated would be unhealthy for the game, so we created a banned pair.
However, as the card pool has increased, it has become possible to use cards outside the banned pair to repeat this action, and we have determined that a banned pair is insufficient to control this play.
For the above reasons, we have decided to ban this card.
Since [EX5-065 Sayo & Koh] will be banned, its previous banned pair will be removed.[2] References:
