Gameplay[edit]
The Appli Drive DUO is operated by inserting Appmon Chips into the device and using its physical controls and Touch Panel. Its main functions are Appliarise, Applink, App Gattai, Enemy Mode, and Collect Mode. Appmon that are Appliarised, as well as Appmon created through App Gattai, can be registered in the device's collection.
Controls[edit]
The device has an A Button, B Button, Cross Button, Open Lever, Close Button, Touch Panel, and Eject Button. The Open Lever is used to open the cover for inserting and removing Appmon Chips, while the Close Button is used to close the cover during Appliarise and Applink. The A Button is used to activate Applink after an Appmon has been Appliarised, while the B Button can be used to access an Appmon's abilities and to enter Collect Mode. The Touch Panel is used during the Appliarise and Applink sequences and can also be used to activate Overdrive.
Startup[edit]
The power switch is located on the back of the device. Turning it on produces a startup sound and displays the normal screen. If no operation is performed for approximately 60 seconds, the device enters Sleep Mode. Pressing either the A or B Button returns it to the normal screen.
Appliarise[edit]
To Appliarise an Appmon, the Open Lever is lowered, opening the cover and activating the Appliarise standby sound. An Appmon Chip is then placed into the reading area and pushed into place. The cover is subsequently closed using the Close Button.
The device then enters a touch standby state. Touching the Touch Panel initiates the Appliarise sequence, after which the device displays the Appmon's Power value and begins introducing its abilities. Pressing the B Button starts the App Ability presentation.
During Appliarise, the LCD displays an eight-colour roulette. Touching the Touch Panel stops the roulette, and the resulting colour is compared with the colour of the frame of the inserted Appmon Chip. If the colours match, the Appliarise animation changes. When performing App Gattai, the resulting Appmon's frame is used for the colour comparison instead. After the Appliarise animation finishes, the device enters a touch standby state. Continuously touching the Touch Panel for four seconds or longer activates Overdrive.
Appmon Chip[edit]
To remove an Appmon Chip, the Open Lever is lowered to open the cover, after which the Eject Button on the back of the device is held down. The Appmon Chip can then be removed from the device.
Applink[edit]
After an Appmon has been Appliarised, pressing the A Button activates Applink Mode and plays the Applink standby sound. The Appmon Chip currently inserted in the device is removed and replaced with another Appmon Chip using the same procedure used during Appliarise. The Close Button is then used to begin the Applink sequence.
When Applink is completed, the Power values of the two linked Appmon are combined, increasing the resulting Appmon's Power.
If Applink cannot be performed, the manual instructs the user to Appliarise an Appmon again before pressing the A Button. Pressing the A Button while the device is waiting for Applink cancels the process and returns to the normal screen.
App Gattai[edit]
When the two Appmon being linked form a designated combination, the Applink instead results in an App Gattai. A special sound effect announces the App Gattai, and the two Appmon evolve into a new Appmon.
App Gattai is therefore a special result of Applink rather than a separate mode. The resulting Appmon can subsequently be registered in Collect Mode.
Enemy Mode[edit]
If the device is left in its normal mode, an enemy Appmon may appear after a period of time. The device announces the appearance of an "Enemy Appmon" and displays its Power value.
When an enemy appears, lowering the Open Lever starts the Appliarise procedure, allowing an Appmon Chip to be inserted and Appliarised. The resulting Appmon is then compared with the enemy according to their Power values.
If the player's Appmon has a higher Power value than the enemy, the player wins. If the player's Appmon has a lower Power value than the enemy, the player loses. If the enemy is left unattended for a period of time, it disappears and the device returns to normal mode.
Pressing either the A or B Button while an enemy is appearing also returns the device to normal mode.
Collect Mode[edit]
Collect Mode can be entered by pressing the B Button while the device is displaying its normal screen. The device displays the number of Appmon registered for each Grade, including Appmon that have been Appliarised and Appmon produced through App Gattai.
After displaying the registration counts for the Grades, the device displays the user's Rank. The Rank increases as more Appmon are registered, while registering Appmon of higher Grades allows the Rank to increase more readily. As the Rank increases, additional Appmon animations become available.
The device's animations also change as the Rank increases. Appmon that do not appear at lower Ranks can subsequently appear in the animations, and the Appmon that appear as enemies also change.
The number of registered Appmon is displayed as a counter, such as "1/15".
Overdrive[edit]
Overdrive can be activated after Appliarise or Applink. Once the device enters the touch standby state following the sequence, continuously touching the Touch Panel for four seconds or longer activates Overdrive.
