The third evolution of the Digimon Virtual Pets is the Digimon Pendulum Progress (デジモンペンデュラムプログレス Dejimon Pendyuramu Puroguresu), common abbreviation "PenProg". Three versions were released alongside the D-Scanners for Jogress compatibility. To obtain certain Digimon in the Pendulum Progress, you may Jogress with certain Digimon on the D-Scanner.

Set-Up and Gameplay[edit]

The Pendulum Progress a full roster of 24 Digimon on each version and has many new features, most notably the ability to battle solo with an 'in game' Digimon so you can achieve the higher levels without having to connect with another pet. The LCD screen is much larger and features larger sprites and a new side-scrolling menu. The same 7 features are present, but there is no "Call" display. Instead, your Digimon will simply make a sound and visually 'cry out'.

Scale[edit]

The Scale screen contains all your Digimon's vital statistics. There is the Age/Weight screen as per usual, as well as the "Stage" your Digimon is at evolution wise. The new addition with the Pendulum Progresses regarding the food and strength hearts is that instead of simply having 4 of each, you can have many more hearts. Shown are the bottom four hearts, but above there are two numbers (Ex: 12/16) where 12 is the amount of hunger hearts filled out of 16. As you evolve the denominator will increase for both the Hunger and Strength meters. Next, there is the traditional DP gauge, followed by a new statistic screen. It shows your Health Points (HP), which determine how much damage you can take; your Attack points (AP), which determines the strength of your attacks; and lastly your Speed Points (SP), which determine your ability to dodge. Train your Digimon in "Normal" and "Battle" modes to raise the stats. The Battle/Jogress (B-J-) screen remains, although only specific Digimon from the correct version of Pendulum Progress can Jogress with another Pendulum Progress or D-Scanner.

Meat[edit]

There are two options. The top selection is a piece of meat, which will increase the Digimon's hunger. The second selection is the Protein Pill, which will increase your Digimon's Strength.

Training[edit]

This is where your Digimon will train; a successful training session will increase your Digimon's strength naturally. Now, there are two options here as well.

Normal[edit]

This training will be similar to the Pendulum series, shake and the counter will determine your points in a series of 5 shots. The structure is as follows.

  • Single Shot = 0 points
  • Double Shot = 1 point
  • Triple Shot = 2 points
  • Super Hit = 4 points

It is required you get 5 Points or higher to increase your Strength hearts. A series of 5 sequential Double Shots earns you a "Mega Hit", a series of 5 Triple Shots will get you a "Giga Hit" and a series of 5 Super Hits will earn you a "Tera Hit". Training will decrease your DP level, and DP is necessary to train.

Battle[edit]

The Pendulum Progress series offers a secondary training method called "Battle" where you will battle an opponent Digimon. Victories will be counted but losses will not, so it is possible to have a 100% Win Ratio. The battle method is the same as in the original Pendulum, but instead of best out of three, you and your opponent both have a health gauge. You will face three of the same Adult Digimon in a row one after the other if you keep winning. After every three you will fight a Perfect Digimon and then three more Adults and so forth. On your 100th Battle you will now fight the Ultimate Digimon. Defeating the Ultimate will earn you Master Status, and a trophy will be shown in the Status screen. Earning Master Status will cause every shot during Training and Battle to be a Super Hit. Once you have 999/999 battles, the battle counter will say 'Champion' and battles will no longer be counted.

Connection[edit]

For the Pendulum Progresses there are two functions for connecting.

  • Battle: Choosing this option leads to a sub-menu. There is "PROGRESS," which is for battle with a Pendulum Progress, "D-SCANNER" for battle with a D-Scanner, and "OTHER" for battle with other electronic pets. As the Pendulum Progress has a different method of fighting it needs a separate option for the older pets. Fighting with other electronic toys allows you to increase your Win Ratio; the more battles and higher your Win Ratio, the more likely it will be you will reach the Perfect Stage. Check the Evolution requirement of your goal Digimon for the target Win Ratio. Baby I/Baby II Digimon cannot battle, and for the other Digimon DP is necessary.
  • Jogress: Again you need to select the Pendulum Progress or D-Scanner from the sub-menu, depending on which item has the compatible Digimon you want to Jogress with. On the D-Scanner, the lower-level Digimon will be lost and replaced with the higher-leveled one.

Toilet[edit]

This will wipe the screen clear when your Digimon poops approximately every three hours. Your Digimon will become sick if it poops 8 times without having the mess cleaned.

Lights[edit]

Select this function to turn the lights off when your Digimon is ready to sleep. You must do this within 20 minutes, or it will count as a care mistake and your Digimon will wake up one hour later. A full 8 hours' sleep is necessary to refill the DP Gauge.

Bandage[edit]

This is where you provide medical attention for your Digimon. If it becomes sick (the 'c') above its head use the top selection and if he is dying (the skull) use the bottom selection. Sometimes your Digimon will refuse the treatment and you will have to keep trying until it accepts. If your Digimon gets the sickness/dying status too many times or is left untreated, it may die. Your Digimon can still get injured in battle even if it wins.

Other Options[edit]

  • Sound Feature: Hit the A and C buttons at the same time, and select OFF at the Menu to disable the sound.
  • Pause Feature: The Pendulum Progress 1.0 and 2.0 have no pause feature. In other Pendulums, you can simulate one by bringing up the clock and hitting A and C to 'change the clock' then leave it on with the time blinking. However, you cannot do this with the Pendulum Progresses 1.0 and 2.0. On the Pendulum Progress 3.0, there is a true pause feature. To activate it, hit the B and C buttons at the same time and bring up the new Menu. Select YES and the screen will go blank, and your Digimon will be paused, the clock will not advance.
