Digimon D-Cyber: Super Evolution Dragon Soul Wars (數碼暴龍D–CYBER 超進化龍魂戰記), commonly shortened to Digimon D-Cyber (數碼暴龍D–CYBER), is a Hong Kong manhua illustrated by Yu Yuen-wong and released in 2005. It was serialized in the biweekly CO-CO! Magazine and collected in two volumes comprising fourteen chapters.
The series is based on the D-Cyber Digivice, Bandai Asia's counterpart to the Japanese Digimon Pendulum X. It follows Lung Chi Kwong and his friends after they are drawn into the Digital World, where they become involved in Metal Fantomon's attempt to revive Death-X-mon.
Story[edit]
Overview[edit]
Lung Chi Kwong and his friends are drawn into the Digital World by Metal Fantomon, who seeks to exploit the children's Digivices and hearts. Separated from his companions, Chi Kwong encounters Dorimon, the Digimon he had been raising on his D-Cyber Digivice. Their reunion is interrupted by Lok Fai, who has fallen under Metal Fantomon's control and attacks them with Metal Greymon (X-Antibody). Chi Kwong's determination to save his friend enables his partner to evolve into DORUgoramon and defeat their opponent, freeing Lok Fai from Metal Fantomon's influence.
As the children reunite, they discover that Metal Fantomon intends to revive Death-X-mon. After he steals DORUmon's Dragon Spirit to further this plan, saving Chi Kwong's partner becomes an urgent part of their journey. Following the guidance of Omegamon (X-Antibody), they seek out "Duke", Medieval Dukemon, in the hope of obtaining a replacement Dragon Spirit. However, they must first overcome the trials imposed by his servant, Mametyramon, and prove themselves to Duke.
Their efforts eventually bring them into conflict with the revived Death-X-mon. The final battle reveals DORUmon's connection to Alphamon and the Holy Knights, while the children must also rescue Ah Mei and find a way to return to the Real World.
Development[edit]
D-Cyber was developed as an original, Bandai-licensed comic promoting the D-Cyber Digivice. In a 2019 interview, Yu Yuen-wong identified it as his final Digimon comic for CO-CO! Magazine. He noted that both his first Digimon work, Battle!! Digital Monsters, and his last were original stories licensed by Bandai to promote virtual pets, whereas his intervening adaptations of the first four television anime series were licensed by Toei Animation.[1]
