Digimon Jintrix (デジモンジントリックス, Dejimon Jintorikkusu) was an online Digimon card game and the first Digimon title released as part of the Net Carddass series. It combined physical collectible cards with a browser-based game in which the cards could be registered and used to form Digimon armies.
A limited beta test was held from January 21 to February 7, 2011, before the game and its first card set were officially launched on February 25, 2011. The online service was discontinued on September 28, 2012.
Overview[edit]
Digimon Jintrix was jointly developed by Bandai and Bandai Namco Games. It was accessible through both personal computers and Japanese mobile phones and initially required an account for Banafest! Town.
Every physical card included a unique serial code on its reverse. Players could register the card in the online game by manually entering this code or by scanning its two-dimensional barcode with a compatible mobile phone. Once registered, the corresponding Digimon became available for use in the player's armies. Promotional codes distributed through campaigns and other products could be redeemed in the same manner.
The basic online service was free to play, and ownership of physical cards was not required to begin playing. New players received a selection of 25 rental cards, although these were retrieved and replaced at the end of each league. As a result, armies composed of rental cards had to be reorganized between leagues.
The game was also launched through Yahoo! Mobage on January 16, 2012, allowing users of that platform to access the service.
Development and release[edit]
A limited personal-computer beta test was held from January 21 to February 7, 2011. Participants received 25 randomly selected digital cards, allowing them to test the game's team-building and battle systems before the physical cards were released.
Gameplay[edit]
Players constructed one or more armies, each composed of a leader and a number of supporting members. Every card had a cost, measured in GB, while cards placed in the leader position provided a leader capacity. The combined cost of the other members could not exceed the capacity of their leader.
Cards were divided into three roles:
- Attack — Digimon oriented toward offensive actions.
- Guard — Digimon oriented toward defending the army and its leader.
- Support — Digimon that assisted other members of the army.
The effectiveness of an army was determined by more than the individual strength of its cards. Factors such as the compatibility between members, their current condition, the selected strategy and particular combinations of Digimon could affect their performance. Certain combinations could also activate combos, evolutions or DigiXroses during battle.
After assembling an army, the player selected its name and general strategy. Multiple armies could be created, as some leagues required the deployment of several separate units.
Leagues[edit]
Battles took place through leagues and were divided into two principal modes: scenario leagues against computer-controlled opponents and battle-royale leagues involving other players.
Combat proceeded automatically once a league battle began, even if the player was not logged into the game. Depending on the league, battles could begin within several minutes or take place periodically over multiple days. Players could review the resulting battle through an animated replay and reorganize their armies before the next engagement.
Battles were turn-based. An army won by defeating the opposing leader, regardless of how many other Digimon remained. In addition to their regular attacks, Digimon could activate their Special Moves and, under certain conditions, evolve into stronger forms. Items obtained through battles could also influence later engagements.
Some leagues consisted of several battles fought over different territories. Their final result was determined by the total number of victories attained by the participating armies, reflecting the territory-capturing theme of the game.
Physical cards[edit]
The cards featured newly commissioned illustrations of Digimon from several generations of the franchise, with contemporary Digimon from Digimon Xros Wars appearing alongside Digimon from earlier productions.
Regular booster packs contained three cards and originally retailed for ¥315, while vending-machine boosters contained two cards and retailed for ¥200. Cards were divided into four standard rarities:

A Digimon Jintrix wafer product was also released in late February 2011. Each package contained a cocoa-cream wafer and one card selected from a 49-card subset of the first set.
Unlike cards from conventional tabletop card games, most of the gameplay information was stored digitally and accessed after registration. This allowed the fronts of the physical cards to give greater prominence to their illustrations.

Unreleased Cards[edit]
Earlier versions of the fronts of the Demon and Lucemon Falldown Mode (Set 3) and Silphymon and Shakkoumon cards (Set 4) could be accessed at the official website before the sets' respective releases. In addition, two unreleased cards, more specifically Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and Cherubimon (Virtue), could be accessed as well. An Imperialdramon Fighter Mode card was released with Set 4, but the artwork is different. The Cherubimon card was never released, despite its artwork being featured on a promotional poster for Set 2.
Furthermore, multiple cards appeared within the Jintrix online game that were possibly never intended to be released in physical form. Like the previously mentioned cards, they all lack a card back.

Termination[edit]
The termination of Digimon Jintrix was announced in June 2012. Both the original Banafest! Town version and the Yahoo! Mobage version ended service on September 28, 2012, approximately nineteen months after the game's official launch.
Following the closure, the serial codes printed on the physical cards could no longer be registered and the online battles became inaccessible, leaving the cards without their online functionality but otherwise unaffected as physical collectibles.
