While Vamdemon was searching for the eighth Chosen Child, he held a lot of people at a convention center. Mimi was also being held there when Vamdemon let loose a Dark Tyranomon. Mimi had Togemon battle him. Seeing that her digimon was in trouble, Mimi showed a huge amount of purity, thus setting off her crest. Togemon evolved into her perfect form of Lilimon and used Hana no Kubikazari on Dark Tyranomon, freeing him from the virus he was infected by and taming him. However, shortly afterwards, Vamdemon destroyed Dark Tyranomon.
Digimon Adventure 02[edit]
When the Digimon Kaiser attempts to super evolve Agumon into Metal Greymon with an Evil Ring, the evolution went corrupt resulting in him evolving into Skull Greymon instead. The Digimon Kaiser called in several Dark Tyranomon to try and take down Skull Greymon, but he overpowered them.

While looking for Black Agumon, as he knew where the Forbidden Land and, therefore, Phil was, the Player finds him on the same spot as before, but he had evolved into Dark Tyranomon thanks to training hard after his previous defeat, to the Player's surprise. Once again, Dark Tyranomon challenges the Player to a fight but they instead ask him how to get to the Forbidden Land. While he knows this, he refuses to tell the Player without being beaten in battle first. While annoyed by his loss, Dark Tyranomon keeps his end of the deal and tells the Player that the Forbidden Land is Chrome Mine and that they'll need both the address and the Digimental of Miracles from Pandamon at Sheer Valley to get there. He then swears to get stronger and beat the Player next time.
Dark Tyranomon reappears at Chrome Mine, just in time to rescue the Player and Phil from Mugendramon, though he refused to admit it and said he was there just to fight strong enemies and prove Digimon don't need Tamers to grow stronger. However, Dark Tyranomon's no match for Mugendramon and gets killed by the latter.
As Pagumon later explains, his evolution from Black Agumon to Dark Tyranomon was a Dark Evolution, caused by him not meeting a good Tamer.

Digimon Adventure[edit]
A Dark Tyranomon walked past Ishida Hiroaki in Episode 46, "All-Out Assault! The Odaiba Fog!", making him realize that the monster incidents and the fog covering Odaiba were connected.
After the kidnapped humans ran away, they ended up face-to-face with Dark Tyranomon. Tachikawa Keisuke confronted it to defend his pride as a man, though Togemon, who was tired of standing in the sidelines, jumped into the fight before he could get hurt. However, Togemon was no match for Dark Tyranomon. Tachikawa Mimi's anger at the Digimon that kept hurting humans resonated with her Crest of Purity, causing Togemon to Super Evolve into Lilimon for the first time.
Dark Tyranomon is the 50th obligatory boss of the game, fighting Palmon in Episode 46, "All-Out Assault! The Odaiba Fog!". For the battle, as in the anime, Palmon will evolve for the first time into Lilimon for no SP cost and remain in the form for the battle. It can deal multiple hits to one enemy with Fire Blast or deal a single hit to one enemy with Dark Nail and Iron Tail.
After defeating Dark Tyranomon, Lilimon used her Hana no Kubikazari to purify it and protect Mimi's pure heart. However, it was then immediately killed by Vamdemon.
Dark Tyranomon appears as a random enemy from Episode 48, "The Resurrected Venom Vamdemon" onwards, identical to its boss version.
