Karan Eri is one of the protagonists in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.
Profile[edit]
Eri is a determined girl with a strong personality who goes out of her way to help others. As a member of the idol group Appliyama 470, she often adopts an exuberant and confrontational persona, at times even appearing arrogant or haughty. In reality, however, she is sweet, kind, and sensitive. Before joining Appliyama 470, she was also prone to loneliness.
Her catchphrase as an idol is: "I'll punch my way into your heart! I am the center of the universe, so call me Lord Karan Eri!" (あなたのハートにドッカンパンチ!私こそが宇宙のセンター、花嵐エリ様なんだからん! Anata no hāto ni dokkan panchi! Watashi koso ga uchū no sentā, Karan Eri-sama nandakaran!)
Eri approaches her idol career with dedication, perseverance, and sincerity, rejecting any form of favoritism. Her greatest wish is to make other people happy, especially her mother.
Etymology[edit]
The name Eri possibly comes from ELIZA, an early computer program. Although the software ELIZA is pronounced "Iraiza" (イライザ) in Japanese, the name "Eliza" can be written as エリザ (Eriza). Also from Ellie, an AI therapist software able to detect depression. The surname Karan means "flower storm".

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Eri was born in 2002 and lives in Tokyo with her mother, who often returns home late due to work. One evening in March 2016, Eri watches a concert by Kagurazaka Izumi, a famous idol, on television and is inspired by her infectious cheerfulness. Shortly afterward, she finds an Appli Drive and meets Dokamon, but decides to keep her Chip hidden while pursuing her dream of becoming an idol. During the auditions, Izumi helps Eri overcome her nervousness with encouraging advice, and Eri is accepted into Appliyama 470.
On November 3, Eri meets Haru and Gatchmon, but is initially reluctant to become involved in battles against Appmon infected with the L-Virus until Dokamon convinces her otherwise. Eri and Haru become friends, and some time later, Haru introduces her to Astora, with whom she initially clashes due to their strong personalities.
In December, Rei steals the Chips of Ropuremon and Gomimon from Haru. Eri and the others attempt to follow Rei through the Net Ocean, but are ambushed by Sakusimon. Unexpectedly, Rei and Hackmon arrive to help them, forcing Sakusimon to retreat. Eri and the others then discover that Hajime, Rei's younger brother, has been kidnapped by Leviathan. After Sakusimon is defeated, Rei returns the Chips before departing on her own once again.
On January 14, Eri and Astora battle Tellermon, who has been infected by the L-Virus. During the battle in the AR-Field, Astora nearly falls from a rooftop, but Eri grabs his hand and saves him. A few days later, Eri, Dokamon, and the others accompany Haru to Denemon's old laboratory, where they meet Timemon, who reveals the story of Leviathan and Minerva, the creator of the Appli Drives.
Between battles, Eri continues focusing on her idol career. During the Fujimizaka New Year's Festival, she holds her first concert, attracting a large audience. Toward the end of February, she trains with Coachmon in preparation for an audition for Appliyama 470, hoping to earn the opportunity to thank Kagurazaka Izumi personally. Although Coachmon secretly works for Leviathan, he is moved by Eri's determination and decides to help her sincerely. With Coachmon's assistance, Dosukomon evolves into Oujamon and defeats Weatherdramon, the last of the Seven Code Appmon. However, Mienumon steals the Chip and escapes into the Deep Web, pursued by the Appli Drivers and their Appmon.

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Eri is mentioned by a girl at the Nikotama River (South) clothing shop. She thinks Eri's super cute.
Kazuki/Itsuki first met Eri at Mihamakou (Warehouses), initiating the sub quest "Lady Eri is Here". Eri had a day off but was in a bind, so Kazuki/Itsuki asked her what was wrong. Eri explained she was in the town for the first time and didn't know what to do. Kazuki/Itsuki offered to help and asked her for her name, surprising Eri as she thought they had offered to help her because they knew who she was. Eri thought they probably just didn't realize who she was so she gave them her signature catchphrase and pose, before remembering how that could cause a scene. However, Kazuki/Itsuki still did not know who she was, so an angry Eri explained she was the Center of the Universe from Appliyama 470 and their signature phrase. None of it made any sense for Kazuki/Itsuki, which itself made no sense for Eri, so she asked if they didn't watch TV and weren't into idols. Kazuki/Itsuki responded they did watch TV, proving to Eri she wasn't known to everyone yet and still had to keep working to become a top idol. That said, she thought things may be easier if Kazuki/Itsuki didn't know her and appointed them as her temporary manager/bodyguard. Eri then explained she had lost a really important accessory for the Appliyama 470 stage costume. When Kazuki/Itsuki asked her if she knew where she lost it, Eri explained she had gone to a fancy convenience store, where she bumped into someone and spilled everything in her bag. Kazuki/Itsuki knew only one such store existed in the southwest so they decided to search there. After leaving the AR Dungeon of the store, Kazuki/Itsuki found Eri in it and gave her her accessory back. Seeing Kazuki/Itsuki go out of an AR Dungeon made Eri realize they were an Appli Driver too, and her choice of words revealed the same to Kazuki/Itsuki. Eri explained that was a secret to her agency that Kazuki/Itsuki now had to keep. Dokamon, Eri's Buddy Appmon, then asked her to introduce him too. Eri refused to Appliarise him though he insisted as things got too chaotic with him around. Eri then praised Kazuki/Itsuki for being a great manager/bodyguard then praised herself for her eye for talent. With their work done, Kazuki/Itsuki attempted to leave, only for Eri to stop them as she still was going to sightsee around the area so she'd call them via Appli Talk if she needed anything. Eri then left while thinking about how she should be looking for the Seven Code Appmon but still wanted to have fun on her day off.
Without a moment to wait, Eri followed through on her promise and called Kazuki/Itsuki, ordering them to go to the Entrance Gate in Mihamakou as something terrible had happened. In the AR-Field there, Eri showed Kazuki/Itsuki that her day-off plans and her location had been leaked thanks to her calendar app, which she knew because only those schedule entries had been leaked and she couldn't uninstall it. To solve this, Kazuki/Itsuki went into Eri's phone's AR Dungeon. After defeating Calendamon, who had caused it, a fight started for the role of Eri's manager/bodyguard between Kazuki/Itsuki, Ryouji and the Mihama Gang, and Dokamon, with the latter defeating the Mihama Appli Drivers. Eri herself joined them soon after as it would be unfair if Dokamon fought alone, which Kazuki/Itsuki pointed out was really weird.
For the fight, Eri opens with Dokamon + Perorimon, which AppGattai into Dosukomon. She follows that with Mirrormon and Coachmon, both Applinked with Racemon. She also uses Onpamon for Appli Skills.
After the fight, Dokamon acknowledged Kazuki/Itsuki but promised to take the role someday though Kazuki/Itsuki still didn't want it. They then returned to the Real World alongside the Mihama Gang, where Eri praised Kazuki/Itsuki for defeating them. Ryouji then admitted Kazuki/Itsuki was the best for the job and accepted being happy just getting to talk to Eri which his underlings shared. Eri threatening them with a Dokkan Punch made it the best day of their life. Kazuki/Itsuki was shocked at how differently Ryouji acted around Eri. The Mihama Gang wished for Eri to have a good time in Mihamakou then left. Eri then thanked Kazuki/Itsuki and exclaimed how glad she was for meeting them, surprising Kazuki/Itsuki as her personality also changed. Realizing her true self slipped out, Eri went back to her arrogant self then left to enjoy the rest of her day incognito, though her "see you later" made it clear they still were her manager/bodyguard. This finishes the sub quest "Lady Eri is here".
Eri is the final opponent of the Dosuko Cup Tournament. Before the fight starts, she offers to reward Kazuki/Itsuki's efforts in the tournament with a live Dokkan Punch. She uses the same Appmon as before.
Later on, Eri and Dokamon participate in the Hifumigaoka vs. Fujimizaka 4v4 friendly tournament (交流戦, Kōryū-sen) in the Cyber Arena during the special post-game episode. She is defeated by Naoto in the first round.
