Haru and his mother live in Tokyo's Fujimizaka neighborhood. In October 2016, Haru receives an Appli Drive and encounters Gatchmon. His mother knows nothing about the Appli Drive and does not notice Gatchmon's presence in the house.
One night, Haru's mother hears Denemon's voice coming from her son's bedroom, but convinces herself that she must be mistaken, as Denemon has been missing for years. In reality, it is the Appli Drive that speaks. The following morning, Haru asks her about his grandfather, and she shows him a rare photograph of him. Following the clues in the photograph, Haru and his friends discover Denemon's old laboratory.
When Leviathan materializes in the Real World and launches the program to transform humanity into digital applications, Haru's mother is reduced to data and sent to the Dark Web. Following Leviathan's defeat, she and all other humans return to normal.
