Unryuji Knight is a antagonist in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters and a servant of Leviathan.
Profile[edit]
Knight's catchphrase is "Thank you, Future" (サンキュー未来, Sankyū Mirai). He also has a habit of introducing himself by saying his surname and pointing toward the audience, who respond by shouting his given name.
Knight is a charismatic, charming, and intelligent young man. By Leviathan's will, he assumes the role of CEO of L-Corp. He often concludes his speeches by exclaiming, "Thank you, Future!" (サンキュー未来!, Sankyū Mirai!)
When acting as Leviathan's emissary, Knight conceals his identity behind the alias Cloud and wears a costume consisting of a mask and cape. Cloud's demeanor differs greatly from Knight's reassuring public persona: he strikes dramatic poses and frequently bursts into sinister laughter. He blindly follows Leviathan's orders and believes that humans are weak and imperfect, and that only artificial intelligence can create a perfect world.
Etymology[edit]
The name Knight might be a reference to Will Knight, the senior editor for AI at MIT Technology Review. The surname Unryuji means "cloud dragon temple". Likely a reference to cloud computing.

Anime[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Knight was born in 2001 and grew up overseas due to his parents' work. Exceptionally gifted, he graduated from high school at the age of twelve and earned a university degree by fifteen. However, he missed his friends in Japan and came up with the idea of developing a messaging application that would allow him to stay in contact with them. The application attracted the attention of a major company, which began distributing it on a large scale. Over time, however, Knight became disillusioned as he witnessed people abusing the technology. Convinced that humanity was unworthy of such advances, he gradually came to support Leviathan.
In May 2017, Leviathan dismisses Umematsu Takeo, the former CEO of L-Corp, and appoints Knight as his replacement. Leviathan also assigns him four Ultimate-level Appmon, the Ultimate 4, as subordinates. A few days later, the Appli Drivers and their Appmon visit the futuristic L-Town. Appearing as Cloud, Knight warns them not to interfere in Leviathan's affairs or face the consequences.
In June, Knight hosts the Appliyama 470 popularity elections, which are sponsored by L-Corp. After the results are announced, he invites Karan Eri aboard his private ship, the Gorgeous Knight, reveals his connection to Leviathan, and suggests that she join them. Eri refuses and escapes, prompting Knight to order the Ultimate 4 to eliminate her and her friends. He enhances the Ultimate 4 with the L-Code and personally observes the ensuing battle while disguised as Cloud. The Ultimate 4 prevail and destroy the Appli Drivers' equipment, but Ozora Yujin and Shutmon arrive in time to help their friends escape, though they themselves become trapped within the AR-Field.
Knight subsequently decides to use Yujin and Offmon as bait to lure the others into a trap. One by one, the Ultimate 4 are defeated thanks to the power of the new Appli Drive DUOs. Eventually, only Charismon remains. After receiving the L-Code, Charismon declares that Leviathan no longer has any use for a human like Knight and attempts to kill him. Knight's worldview collapses, and he resigns himself to the fate Leviathan has chosen for him, still believing that humanity has no choice but to submit to the decisions of artificial intelligence. However, Haru opposes him. Knight witnesses Globemon defeat Charismon through the strength of his bond with Haru. After revealing Hajime's whereabouts to Rei, Knight departs in despair.
When Leviathan materializes in the Real World and initiates the program to transform humanity into applications, Knight is presumably converted into data and sent to the Dark Web, although this is never shown directly. Following Leviathan's defeat, Knight and all other humans return to normal. He is briefly seen from behind as he learns of L-Corp's closure.
Manga[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Knight works for Leviathan and leads the Ultimate 4. At some point, he uses Sleepmon to summon Leviathan. He possesses an Appli Drive and is responsible for creating Warudamon by fusing Mienumon and Sakusimon[2], as well as Deusmon by fusing Warudamon and Cometmon. Warudamon refers to him as her "general".
Unlike the individuals chosen by Minerva, Knight was not selected by her. Instead, his Appli Drive is a copy created by Leviathan, who uses it to amplify the power of Appmon, as the Appli Drive can draw upon human bioenergy to increase an Appmon's strength.
Following the defeat of Deusmon and Leviathan, Deusmon regresses into Mienumon and joins the Appli Drivers alongside Knight. It is implied that Mienumon becomes his Buddy Appmon, with Sakusimon also accompanying them.
In the manga continuity, Knight continues to manage L-Corp even after Leviathan's defeat.
