Ryūtarou is Torajirou Asuka's father. The Asuka family has run a tea ceremony house for over 400 years, and Ryūtarou is the current iemoto (master). Despite being very attached to tradition, he doesn't seem particularly strict and doesn't expect Torajirou to follow in his footsteps unless he wants to.

Ryūtarou descends from a long line of tea ceremony masters and is trained to become their successor. As a boy, he trains at a Zen temple in Kyoto and is later sent to the infamous martial arts temple Alcatra along with his younger brother, Ryuujirou. Ryūtarou, however, finds a way to escape, taking Ryuujirou with him. No one had ever managed to escape from Alcatra before. Several years later, Ryūtarou works at a tea shop in London, where he meets Jenny one afternoon. The two soon marry and move to Japan. In 2005, their only son, Torajirou, is born.
At some point, Ryūtarou becomes the iemoto of the Asuka house, which has thousands of students throughout the country. The responsibilities are numerous, and Ryūtarou pushes himself too hard. As a result, his health deteriorates, and he collapses in February 2017. Although a doctor advises him to rest, Ryūtarou instead follows the recommendations of a medical app, unaware that it has been infected by Medicmon. Torajirou and Musimon save him by defeating Medicmon.
When Leviathan materializes in the Real World and launches the program to transform humanity into applications, Ryūtarou and Jenny are converted into data and sent to the Dark Web. Following Leviathan's defeat, Ryūtarou and all other affected humans return to normal.
