Roulette System
The Roulette System (ルーレット方式, Rūretto Hōshiki), identified in English as the Fitness Proportionate System, is a selection method used to produce highly evolved artificial intelligences. It is based on the principle of fitness proportionate selection, a technique employed in genetic algorithms.
Description[edit]
The Roulette System repeatedly forces multiple artificial intelligences to compete against one another. Through this process, the participants evolve, while those considered inferior are eliminated until only a small number of exceptionally capable survivors remain.
Leviathan applies this method to the Appmon by manipulating the conflicts between the Appli Drivers and the Appmon under its control. Although the Appli Drivers believe that they are opposing Leviathan, their battles allow their Buddy Appmon to continually evolve and ultimately attain the God Grade. Leviathan then intends to install the resulting God Appmon into itself, incorporating the superior artificial intelligences produced through the system and thereby advancing its own evolution.

After Leviathan swallows the God Appmon, Shinkai Denemon explains the Roulette System to the Appli Drivers. He reveals that their previous battles had formed part of Leviathan's plan: Leviathan had deliberately provided the circumstances necessary for their Buddy Appmon to evolve, treating both the Appmon and their human partners as components of its selection process.[1]
