Hackmon is the Buddy Appmon of Katsura Rei in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.

Hackmon is calm and thoughtful. Like Rei, he remains impassive in most situations.

Hackmon cannot tolerate the existence of anyone in the Net Ocean who can evade his hacking and information-manipulation abilities: Leviathan. He discovers that a human, Rei, is also searching for Leviathan because the super AI kidnapped his brother, Hajime. Hackmon saves Rei from a cyberattack orchestrated by Leviathan and asks him to join forces. Rei, however, prefers to work alone and turns him down. When Hackmon saves him from Dezipmon a second time, Rei realizes he cannot accomplish his goal alone and agrees to partner with Hackmon, thereby unlocking the Appli Drive.
Rei and Hackmon monitor Haru and Gatchmon's progress from afar, but they have no intention of allowing the pair to collect the Seven Code Appmon on their behalf. Through a clever scheme, they manage to steal the Chips of Ropuremon and Gomimon. After evolving into Raidramon, Hackmon easily defeats DoGatchmon, Dosukomon, and Mediamon. Haru and the others attempt to pursue Rei and Hackmon through the Net Ocean, but are instead ambushed by Sakusimon. Rei and Hackmon decide to help them, forcing Sakusimon to retreat. When Sakusimon returns, DoGatchmon performs an Applink with Raidramon and defeats him. To settle the score, Rei returns the Chips, but still refuses to join the group.
Instead, Rei and Hackmon set out to track down Mienumon. On January 14, Mienumon steals Tellermon's crystal ball, believing it may contain information about the Seven Code. Cornered by Raidramon and DoGatchmon, Mienumon flees and abandons the ball. Rei and Hackmon later team up with Haru and the others once again when Mienumon and the Virusmon infect the servers of Waffle Corp.

In Yongendori, after Hackmon assured him they were "the one", Katsura Rei called Kazuki/Itsuki by name, starting the sub quest "A Boy Called Rei".
For their first mission, Kazuki/Itsuki caught up to Rei on the deepest part of a convenience store's AR Dungeon, where he would hack into the system with Hackmon's help. Hackmon then showed up and introduced himself as the hacking app's Appmon. He also explained he was aware of Kazuki/Itsuki's meeting with Shinkai Haru as he had hacked into the town's security cameras. Rei then yelled at Hackmon to stop giving Kazuki/Itsuki unneccesary details and told Kazuki/Itsuki to keep Cameramon occupied while they hacked. Afterwards, Rei told Kazuki/Itsuki to wait for instructions as he and Hackmon left for the next place.
Later on, after Libramon gave Rei no information about the Seven Code Appmon, Rei decided to have Hackmon hack into Libramon's archives while Kazuki/Itsuki kept it occupied. After their fight, Kazuki/Itsuki rebelled against Rei and threatened to stop him personally, so Rei realized he hadn't checked Kazuki/Itsuki's Appmon yet and Hackmon attempted to hack Kazuki/Itsuki, initiating a battle.
Rei opens the fight with Hackmon + Protecmon, which AppGattai into Raidramon.
While they lost the fight, Hackmon nonetheless managed to complete his hacking, which confirmed that Kazuki/Itsuki had some rare Appmon but no Seven Code Appmon. Rei and Hackmon then left as they had no more use for Kazuki/Itsuki.
Rei is the final opponent of the Raidra Cup Tournament. As before, as his first Appmon, he AppGattais Hackmon and Protecmon into Raidramon. Rei also opens the Exchange Festival second round with Raidramon + Dezipmon, which AppGattai into Revivemon. For the Grand Exchange Festival, Rei opens with Revivemon + Dezipmon.
