Wakaba is the Cyber Arena's F-Rank Master. He is trying to build up his character, but it is not going very well. He looks up to Makoto. Eventually, Wakaba joins the Mihama Gang.

Gashamon is Wakaba's Buddy Appmon. It has a great respect for Wakaba, calling him "Master Wakaba". As the gashapon Appmon, Gashamon is capable of pulling out items, though they're all useless junk.

Kazuki/Itsuki learned Wakaba's name from Makoto, who Onmon originally confused for Wakaba. He also told them to look for him in the AR-Field of Nikoyama River. There, in Greenery Park, they finally found the F-Rank Rank Master, who introduced himself after Kazuki/Itsuki showed him the F-Rank Voucher. While originally seemingly tame, he suddenly became very boastful to intimidate Kazuki/Itsuki, only to quickly confess, then go full chūnibyō. Makoto then showed up and mocked him for not choosing a character. Makoto said he was curious about Kazuki/Itsuki so he wanted to watch their battle, while Kazuki/Itsuki were surprised that both knew each other. Makoto became angry about how casual Kazuki/Itsuki was around Makoto, nearly telling them who Makoto was, but he stopped him and ordered him to face Kazuki/Itsuki already. While Wakaba agreed to do it, he asked for a bit of time. Onmon refused to wait however and tried to force a connection as he had done with Makoto earlier, only to get rejected. Wakaba explained his Appli Drive couldn't get online. While Onmon and Kazuki/Itsuki believed an Appmon had created an AR Dungeon in Wakaba's Appli Drive, Wakaba explained that it wasn't only him, and that a lot more people in the town had their smartphones go offline. Furthermore, the offline area was getting bigger. Wakaba was investigating the cause and Onmon decided to join up, followed by Kazuki/Itsuki as the quest "Net Outage Investigation 1" as he wanted to climb up the ranks so he could face Naoto. Wakaba warned them of the risk to their Appli Drive but Onmon said he'd connect them so they wouldn't go offline. Makoto believed in them as well. Wakaba then asked them to keep in contact, only for Makoto to point out that Wakaba couldn't do that as he was offline, so Makoto and Kazuki/Itsuki would continue the investigation while Wakaba waited for them. Wakaba suggested they ask normal people as he had already asked every Appli Driver in the area and got nothing out of it. Makoto then left, with Kazuki/Itsuki following after him.

After defeating Tapmon (Tool) of the Three Evil Mons, Kazuki/Itsuki returned to Wakaba. As his Appli Drive was still offline, they realized that they had to beat all Three Evil Mons to fix the situation. This starts the quest "Net Outage Investigation 2". Makoto then called Kazuki/Itsuki and joined them, so Kazuki/Itsuki told him what they learned. They decided to search for more AR Dungeons in the north part of Nikoyama River.

After defeating Jammingmon, the cause of the jamming, Kazuki/Itsuki went back to Wakaba in the AR-Field. Wakaba praised Kazuki/Itsuki for their success even if they did it with Makoto's help, though said Makoto then joined and pointed out Kazuki/Itsuki and Onmon did it by themselves. This finishes the quest "Net Outage Investigation 4". Wakaba then accepted Kazuki/Itsuki's challenge as a Rank Master, having contacted MCmon previously. After MCmon confirmed the fight, Wakaba fumbled then tried once more to act like a cartoon villain, only for Makoto to state his character was all over the place. As the fight started, Wakaba talked about how could cause Appmon to demonstrate many times their power and would guide said power into his hands, which his Buddy Appmon, Gashamon (who called him "Master Wakaba"), agreed to do. During the fight, Wakaba used Gashamon, Kabemon, and Tellermon, all Applinked with Calcumon. As his last Appmon, Wakaba had Gashamon and Tellermon undergo AppGattai into Tarotmon. He also used Copipemon and Mediamon for Appli Skills.

After being defeated, Wakaba tried to praise Kazuki/Itsuki's rank up with his villain persona, only for them to tell him to talk normally. Makoto praised the bond between Kazuki/Itsuki and Onmon and said he wished he could fight like that, which MCmon took as a joke as he was actually something, but Makoto refused to let him continue, arguing the protagonist now was Kazuki/Itsuki. He then adviced them to get more battle experience to improve their teamwork with Appmon as their opponents would only get more skillful as their rank increased. Wakaba believed Kazuki/Itsuki could become the Champion, though it'd be a long road ahead, while Makoto worried they would eventually hit a wall.

Before Kazuki/Itsuki could enter the Mihamakou Chaos Gate, Wakaba joined in, sure that they could fix the problem with the power of his Buddy Appmon, Gashamon. Gashamon then spawned in and Wakaba explained he could use his gashapon ability to pull out whatever would be most helpful to Kazuki/Itsuki, which they thought would be a huge help. Wakaba then switched to his evil overlord persona and, after laughing evilly, ordered Gashamon to show his true strength. However, Gashamon just pulled out trash, so Wakaba snapped back to his real personality in panic as he asked Gashamon to keep trying, only for even more useless junk to come out of him. Wakaba then got defensive and stated there was no way something so convenient could just pop out. Ryouji criticized him for getting defensive and asked why he had even come. Wakaba wondered if someone like him could help and thought that maybe he could be useful somehow despite the danger, hence why he went all the way to Mihamakou with Gashamon. Ryouji complimented Wakaba's Appli Driver spirit that wouldn't lose even to the Champion, proclaimed he would not let anyone deny it, and accepted Wakaba as a member of the Mihama Gang as his spirit had exceeded the gang's trials. Ryouji then offered himself and the Mihama Gang's new Ultra Rookie to stand guard and ordered Kazuki/Itsuki, as a member of the Mihama Gang, to deactivate the Chaos Gate. After they did so, Ryouji praised them and Wakaba was happy about it. Bootmon wanted praise too and Ryouji and Kosomon gave it to him as well, the latter proclaiming both Appmon to be proud members of the Mihama Gang. However, Wakaba saw that Kazuki/Itsuki wasn't happy, as they were deep in thought about the completed password of the Chaos Gates, "0UJ1", but once more they refused to talk about it and instead said that Mihamakou could now rest at ease. Ryouji agreed, though as they couldn't know what would happen next, Wakaba and him would keep defending Mihamakou. They all then left.

Ryouji and Wakaba appeared in the Cyber Arena after Kazuki/Itsuki cleared the High-End GP (S-Rank). Wakaba confirmed he had fully joined the Mihama Gang and Ryouji called him their pride. Kazuki/Itsuki pointed out they had heard how Ryouji and Wakaba held back the rampaging Appmon during the Chaos AR-Field crisis, which Wakaba confirmed while whining all the way. Wakaba also knew that Kazuki/Itsuki fought Rebootmon all alone and Gashamon said he'd disappear for their sake. Ryouji explained that Wakaba sent him off without crying, which he found amazing. Wakaba then switched to his arrogant persona. MCmon explained that the incident caused all the Rank Masters to grow stronger, not just Wakaba, and they would fight Kazuki/Itsuki in the new Rankers Match tournament.
