A Chaos Gate (カオスゲート, Kaosu Gēto) is special device that triggers the appearance of the Chaos AR-Field. This device allows two Appmon to perform AppGattai without the need for an Appli Driver.

Chaos Gates exist in the AR-Field even before turning it into a Chaos AR-Field and possess AR Dungeons of their own. However, their AR Dungeons are themselves warped like the Chaos AR-Fields and spawn only red symbol Appmon.

Kayo set up a Chaos Gate in Mt. Yongen at some point after her Ranker battle with Kazuki/Itsuki. Jammingmon would set up another in Hifumigaoka Middle School's roof to interfere with the Cyber Arena and be a trap to Kazuki/Itsuki after their Ranker battle with Kagefumi.

For the latter, Jammingmon taunted Kazuki/Itsuki to follow them to the roof then into the Chaos Gate's AR Dungeon after explaining it was the cause of the Chaos AR-Field that had swallowed up the school. Upon entering it, Kazuki/Itsuki instantly realized it wasn't a normal AR Dungeon, as if it was affected by the Chaos Gate. Naoto also joined them to stop it. At the end of the AR Dungeon, Jammingmon called for Gengomon then proclaimed they'd AppGattai, despite not having Buddies to do so. Jammingmon explained that, with the Chaos Gate, Appmon could AppGattai using a human's Appli Drive and proved it by hijacking Kazuki/Itsuki's Appli Drive and becoming Roamon. The Chaos Gate was linked to Roamon, and it stopped working when Roamon was defeated by Kazuki/Itsuki, removing the Chaos AR-Field alongside it.

A second Chaos Gate activated in Nikotamagawa when Kazuki/Itsuki was about to face Makoto in their Ranker battle. Makoto found it in Greenery Park. Unlike the previous Chaos Gate, it had a 4-digit password as well as a timer. The password was hidden in four AR Dungeons that were connected to the Chaos Gate. Obtaining the four password digits (0, U, J, 1) spelled "OUJI", which deactivated the Chaos Gate.

Afterwards, several Chaos Gates activated at once, with one appearing in Hifumigaoka, Yongendori and Mihamakou. Makoto also believed the Nikotamagawa Chaos Gate was part of this set. The Hifumigaoka one created a Chaos AR-Field all over Hifumigaoka which kept spreading, though it didn't affect the insides of buildings, and it also caused an even greater outage to the Cyber Arena. The Yongendori one caused changes in parts of the AR-Field and rampaging Appmon to appear.

Yukari and Aidmon found the Chaos Gate in Hifumigaoka's Fountain Park first, though they didn't go inside as they had to protect an injured Tapmon (Tool). After Kazuki/Itsuki defeated an infected Charismon inside its AR Dungeon, the Chaos Gate deactivated and the Chaos AR-Field disappeared. Much like in the previous incident, Bootmon found half of the log of a password in it, "0U", which he believed was a trace of the Chaos Gate's creator.

The Chaos Gate in Yongendori's Mt. Yongen was first found by Mio and Kagefumi. They couldn't go in due to a programmatic block in it, which Craftmon later reverse-engineered. However, Kagefumi still stayed behind to protect Mio alongside Naoto. After Kazuki/Itsuki defeated an infected Fakemon inside its AR Dungeon, the Chaos Gate deactivated. Like in the Hifumigaoka Chaos Gate, Bootmon also found a log of a password here, this time "J".

The final Chaos Gate of the set was in the warehouse area of Mihamakou. Ryouji found it, thanks to the Mihama Gang, after being asked to look for it by Makoto. After Wakaba joined him, they stayed behind to guard it while Kazuki/Itsuki went in. After Kazuki/Itsuki defeated an infected Beautymon inside its AR Dungeon, the Chaos Gate deactivated. Bootmon also found the last piece of the password in it, "1", forming "OUJI" once more.

Immediately afterwards, another Chaos Gate appeared in Hifumigaoka Middle School's rooftop once more, causing a new Chaos AR-Field that swallowed up the entirety of Hifumigaoka, this time including the school interior. Originally, the Chaos Gate was not visible, instead being replaced with Ouji's Teito Security laptop. It was inside the laptop that the true mastermind behind the Chaos Gates was revealed: Naoto's Buddy Appmon, Shutmon, who used others via Appli Talk to set up the Chaos Gates and controlled Jammingmon and Virusmon. After that reveal, the Chaos Gate replaced the laptop, and Naoto and Shutmon (now Rebootmon) went into it. The Chaos Gate disappeared completely after the virus-infected Rebootmon was defeated, though the Chaos AR-Field was still active as the system had been infected.
