Chaos AR-Field (カオスARフィールド, Kaosu Ē Ā Fīrudo) is an especially dangerous class of AR-Field that forms when an existing AR-Field becomes cut off from the network. Once isolated from the normal flow of information, negative emotions and data from the dark side of the net begin to accumulate within the area, gradually corrupting it into this dangerous state.
The appearance of a Chaos AR-Field is triggered by a special device known as a Chaos Gate, which can manifest these corrupted fields throughout the Real World. As a result, communications within the Cyber Arena become disrupted. Appmon that come into contact with a Chaos AR-Field become infected and receive a significant power boost, ultimately causing them to run wild.
When a Chaos AR-Field is activated at full power, it swallows its entire area, forcing any Appli Driver in the Real World into itself. Furthermore, it's impossible to leave them using an Appli Drive as they could with normal AR-Fields, though they can manually leave the area to return to reality.

Jammingmon is responsible for the appearance of the Chaos AR-Field as part of the plan devised by Naoto's Shutmon. To do so, he set up a Chaos Gate on the roof of Hifumigaoka Middle School.
The first Chaos AR-Field was activated at Hifumigaoka Middle School. This greatly disrupted communications within the Cyber Arena, forcing it into a near-complete shutdown and making it impossible to do Remote Cyber Arena battles or battle in the High-End GP (A-Rank) tournament. This was an issue for Kazuki/Itsuki and Naoto, who had to go through the tournament for their next Ranker battle. Ouji explained to Kazuki/Itsuki that, when an AR-Field was cut off from the network, that area would become a corrupted, negative AR-Field known as a Chaos AR-Field, formed from the accumulated negative emotions that formed the dark side of the net. One of said Chaos AR-Fields had formed around the Cyber Arena, causing its current outage. He also told Kazuki/Itsuki and Naoto to go fix it.
When Kazuki/Itsuki entered the school, Jammingmon activated the Chaos AR-Field at full power, causing it to swallow the school and force them into the Chaos AR-Field from the Real World, as well as trapping them there. Bootmon also felt that the Appmon in the area had gotten stronger.
After Kazuki/Itsuki reached S-Rank, another Chaos Gate activated in Hifumigaoka, creating a Chaos AR-Field that swallowed the entirety of the town and kept spreading, though it didn't affect the insides of buildings. It also caused an even greater outage to the Cyber Arena than the previous Chaos AR-Field. The Chaos AR-Field disappeared after Kazuki/Itsuki defeated the infected Charismon that protected the Chaos Gate and deactivated it. However, the Chaos AR-Field reappeared after all Chaos Gates were deactivated. Unlike last time, the Chaos AR-Field this time did get to the inside of a building, namely the school, with the Chaos Gate that created it on its rooftop once more.
After Rebootmon became infected, it intended to kill all of humanity other than Naoto, which he saw as unneccesary. To do so, he caused the Chaos AR-Field to spread even further, to the point that it affected the Real World. Normal humans were forced into the Chaos AR-Field and the Real World was corrupted, and in both cases, infected Appmon manifested and attacked people. Even defeating the infected Rebootmon and eliminating the Chaos Gate did not stop the Chaos AR-Field this time, as the deepest parts of the system had been corrupted by the Chaos Gate and the infected Rebootmon spread the virus worldwide. The only way to stop it would be to reboot the system to its previous state, which Rebootmon then did.
After the credits roll, the player can use the new Chaos AR app to enter and exit the Chaos AR-Field.
While the Chaos AR-Field stopped existing after Rebootmon's defeat, its effects still lingered, such as an infected Libramon Kazuki/Itsuki fought and saved in the sub quest "Inside the Bookshelf".
In terms of gameplay, the Chaos AR-Field serves as a similar overworld to the normal AR-Field, though with some differences. The player can't leave it through the menu and must instead physically walk outside the area to return to the Real World. Furthermore, stronger enemy Appmon shown as red symbols, normally only found in certain AR Dungeons, wander around the Chaos AR-Field, alongside the normal black symbols. The red symbols represent Ultimate Appmon with very high stats. Regardless of symbol colour, all random encounter Appmon found in a Chaos AR-Field appear infected. Chaos AR-Fields can have normal AR Dungeons in them, but the AR Dungeons in their Chaos Gates are themselves warped with unique tiles and also have red symbol Appmon.
