Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
After finishing the sub quests of Asuka Torajirou, Karan Eri and Katsura Rei, Kazuki/Itsuki met up with Shinkai Haru again in the Cyber Arena, where he went to ask them for a favour. Kazuki/Itsuki thought it was about the Seven Code Appmon but Haru now knew none of them were in Hifumigaoka. Instead, Haru explained that to find them, battle was sometimes inevitable, so he wanted to do an exchange match to learn more about the local Appli Drivers. MCmon explained that meant a tournament between Haru's group and the town's Appli Drivers where they could improve their skills and friendship, and he could get a lot of views. The tournament would be a 4 vs 4 match with individual battles, starting the sub quest "Fujimizaka Exchange Match?!". With Kazuki/Itsuki agreeing to join as the last member of the Hifumigaoka team, Haru and MCmon called everyone else. The Hifumigaoka team was originally formed by Ouji, Makoto, Naoto and Kazuki/Itsuki, with Kayo supporting them. However, Mio then showed up and demanded to not be left out. Naoto ordered her to go cheer with Kayo, but her determination convinced Ouji to let the team members be decided by lottery, which Kayo, Makoto and Kazuki/Itsuki agreed with. Thus, Ouji replaced by Mio, to Kayo's anger, but she calmed down after Ouji told her they'd handle the commentary together. The Fujimizaka team then joined them: Eri, Astra (who MCmon originally called Torajirou, annoying him) and Rei. After Astra and Eri went through their catchphrases, Kazuki/Itsuki was shocked they were all Haru's friends. With that done, MCmon declared the "Exchange Festival" (交流戦, Kōryū-sen) started.
Round 1, battle 1 of the Exchange Festival was Kazuki/Itsuki vs Astra. Ouji commented that Astra's Buddy Appmon was the music app's Appmon, Musimon, so whether he could feel it would decide the match, an explanation Kayo praised. Astra starts the fight with Mediamon + Dreammon, which AppGattai into Entermon. He then uses Dezipmon and Tripmon, both Applinked with Dogamon.
After the fight, Astra wasn't feeling it and told Kazuki/Itsuki that he shouldn't lose against anyone else after beating him. Ouji commented that Kazuki/Itsuki disrupted Astra's rhythm perfectly.
Round 1, battle 2 was Mio vs Rei. According to Ouji and Kayo, Mio tried to disrupt Rei's pace but he was completely unaffected and dominated the match. Rei thought the battle had been a waste of his time while Naoto wanted revenge for Mio, though Mio tried to stop him as they had a fair battle which she lost.
Round 1, battle 3 was Naoto vs Eri. According to Ouji and Kayo, Eri tried for a one-hit KO with a full-power idol Dokkan Punch, but it didn't work on Naoto who had no interest in idols. Eri felt humilliated by her defeat while Naoto only cared about fighting Rei to avenge Mio, to her embarassment.
Round 1, battle 4 was Makoto vs Haru. Ouji found the battle intense and exciting, with Makoto's seemingly plain but calculated moves confusing Haru. Kayo agreed with that. Makoto took it as an insult, as if they were telling him he fought and lost plainly, but Haru told him he was really strong. As such, two members of each team passed on to round 2: Kazuki/Itsuki and Naoto from Hifumigaoka, and Haru and Rei from Fujimizaka. Ouji thought their battles would be worth watching, as Kayo said his profile was worth watching.
Semifinals, battle 1 was Kazuki/Itsuki vs Rei. Ouji commented that Rei's Raidramon was a Super Hacking Appmon, a troublesome opponent for Teito Security. Kayo had to remind him that Rei's opponent was Kazuki/Itsuki. Naoto ordered Kazuki/Itsuki not to lose to him, who he saw as Mio's foe, but then corrected himself and ordered them to lose instead so he could defeat Rei and avenge both of them, which Kazuki/Itsuki found ridiculous. Rei starts the fight with Raidramon + Dezipmon, which AppGattai into Revivemon. He then uses Weatherdramon + Protecmon. He also uses Docmon for Appli Skills.
While Rei lost, he wasn't interested in winning or losing. Naoto, however, was annoyed at someone else defeating "Mio's foe". Ouji commented that Kazuki/Itsuki's passion overcame Rei's calmness, making for an exciting battle, which Kayo agreed with, if only to parrot Ouji. After the fight, Rei left, arguing he had something to do. MCmon thought he was a very cool guy.
Semifinals, battle 2 was Naoto vs Haru. According to Ouji, there wasn't a big skill gap between them but Haru was enjoying the battle more. Naoto attributed his defeat to losing his composure because Kazuki/Itsuki defeated Rei, though Mio told him not to blame his defeat on others. Haru thought Naoto was incredibly strong.
Finals was Kazuki/Itsuki vs Haru. Ouji believed were nearly equals in skill and commented that Haru's DoGatchmon was a Super Search Appmon, so they should assume he already knew all of Kazuki/Itsuki's data and give them a fight beyound their limits. Kayo, from her part, fantasized about DoGatchmon also knowing all of Ouji's data. Mio cheered for both of their Appmon. Makoto told Kazuki/Itsuki to stay calm. Astra was totally feeling the finals. Eri threatened both participants with a Dokkan Punch if the battle was boring. Haru opens the fight with DoGatchmon + Timemon, which AppGattai into Globemon. He follows that with Dreammon and Dezipmon, both Applinked with Timemon. He also uses Sociamon, and Sateramon for Appli Skills.
While Haru lost, he wasn't sad about it, since he had learned a lot from the battle and had fun. Ouji commented that both of them had shown strong bonds with their Buddies and had a great battle, but Kazuki/Itsuki had proven themself stronger. Both Ouji and Kayo congratulated the winner, though Kayo had to add that things would've been different if Ouji participated. Mio thought all the Appmon did their best and congratulated Kazuki/Itsuki. Naoto expected nothing else from his rival but warned them things would be different next time. Makoto thought every Appli Driver who watched the battle would be itching for a battle too and congratulated Kazuki/Itsuki. While frustrated, Astra had to admit he had totally felt the battle and congratulated both sides. Eri admitted that she may be the center of the universe but Kazuki/Itsuki was the center of the Arena. Haru thanked Kazuki/Itsuki for the battle and both exclaimed how much fun they had had. With MCmon thanking everyone for playing, the Exchange Festival tournament and the "Fujimizaka Exchange Match?!" sub quest ended.
The Exchange Festival can then be replayed as a normal tournament with a required Rank of S and a recommended level of 52, although it's impossible to not be S-Rank by this point. The battles are the same as in the story: Astra, who is more fired up than ever; Rei, who isn't there to make friends; and Haru, who finds battling with Kazuki/Itsuki more thrilling than reading books and refuses to lose to them. All of them use the same Appmon as before.
