Ai is Haru's childhood friend and classmate. She is kind, calm, and supportive.
Etymology[edit]
The name Ai uses the kanji for "Asia" (亜) and "garment" (衣). Likely from "AI". The surname Kashiki means "evergreen oak tree".

Ai was born in 2003 and lives in Tokyo's Fujimizaka neighborhood. Her family has operated the Kashinoki Bookstore since the time of her great-grandfather, and Ai often helps her father at the store. The bookstore frequently serves as a gathering place for her friends. In 2016, Ai attended Fujimizaka Middle School (Class 1-C) alongside Haru, Yujin, and Watson.
Ai first discovered the existence of Appmon around Christmas of that year, when Calendamon was infected with the L-Virus and erased December 24 and 25 from all digital calendars. Deeply saddened by the situation, Ai was approached by Gatchmon, who promised to restore everything to normal. After Calendamon was defeated, Christmas was restored and celebrated as usual. Following the incident, Ai allowed Haru and the others to use an unused room in the bookstore's basement as their secret base.
In April, Ai began her second year of middle school. Yujin and Offmon joined the team, although Offmon was initially terrified of the others. Ai was the only person capable of calming him down temporarily, preventing him from destroying the secret base.
When Leviathan materialized in the Real World and launched the Humanity Applification Project, Ai was at the library together with her father. Both were converted into data and sent to the Dark Web. Following Leviathan's defeat, Ai and the rest of humanity returned to normal.

Kazuki/Itsuki met Ai after defeating Naoto and Offmon in the Cyber Arena. She was in Fountain Park in Hifumigaoka. After introducing herself, she explained to them that she had come to Hifumigaoka with a friend but he had left for a moment, then she couldn't reach him anymore nor did he show up at their designated meet up spot. Said meet up spot was a big park, but Kazuki/Itsuki realized there were two in Hifumigaoka so Ai's friend might be in the other one, Blossom Park. As Ai didn't want to leave in fear they might miss each other, Kazuki/Itsuki offered to find her friend instead as the subquest "Hifumigaoka, Blossom Park". Afterwards, Ai explained that her friend was Shinkai Haru, a boy who wore goggles like Kazuki/Itsuki.
After fighting Haru in the Cyber Arena, Kazuki/Itsuki met up with Haru and Ai at Fountain Park. Ai was surprised at how well Haru and Kazuki/Itsuki got along and Haru pointed out they'd stay at Hifumigaoka for a while if anything happened. This finishes the "Hifumigaoka, Fountain Park" subquest.
