After clearing the "Save the Neighbour" quest, the game briefly flashes to an infected Protecmon ranting about deleting all harmful apps, while its partner Pipomon begs it to stop.
Pipomon appeared in front of Kazuki/Itsuki and Onmon in the AR-Field of Hifumigaoka Middle School in the quest "Save Gatchmon". It was in the staff room of the school and engaged Kazuki/Itsuki immediately. After being defeated, Pipomon realized the ones he fought weren't Protecmon. It then explained Protecmon was its former partner, with whom it purged viruses that sneaked into the school and the Cyber Arena. However, a strange virus appeared which infected Protecmon with a strange gas. To stop Protecmon, Pipomon tried to ambush it, only to attack Kazuki/Itsuki by mistake instead. Both sides said sorry to each other, as Kazuki/Itsuki also thought Pipomon was the one responsible for separating them from their friends. Pipomon realized they were talking about Yukari and Mio who were trapped behind the shutter on the third floor. However, to open it, an unlock code was needed, which Pipomon didn't have. What he did have was the Red Unlock Code, the one for the first floor's shutter that had just closed and trapped Gatchmon, which he gave to Kazuki/Itsuki.
Kazuki/Itsuki later joined Pipomon in looking for Mio inside the school's AR-Field, as she had gotten lost in an AR Dungeon and Pipomon had sounded an alarm about a girl lost in one, though Pipomon didn't know which. As such, Pipomon sent Kazuki/Itsuki to check the third floor of the school while he searched the second. Said girl returned safely after Kazuki/Itsuki found her, but she was Kayo, not Mio. Pipomon then told Kazuki/Itsuki that a girl had visited Protecmon just after they left.
