AR-Field
| |||||||
An AR-Field (ARフィールド AR Fīrudo) is a space situated between the Real World and the Net. It allows Appmon and humans to interact within an environment that overlaps with locations and systems in the Real World.
Most AR-Fields are created by Leviathan, although Appmon are also capable of generating their own. Their appearance and properties frequently reflect the abilities, application or personality of the Appmon associated with them. Many of the AR-Fields created by Leviathan resemble ruined versions of locations in the Human World, reflecting its vision of the world following its conquest.
Characteristics[edit]
Appmon can materialize directly within an AR-Field without having to undergo Appliarise. Humans who possess an Appli Drive can open gateways connecting the Real World to an AR-Field and physically enter it alongside their Appmon partners.
AR-Fields overlap with corresponding locations or systems in the Real World. Consequently, events occurring within them can affect the human world: damage to an AR-Field may cause power outages, malfunctions or abnormal behavior in the digital devices associated with the affected area.
Not all AR-Fields have the same appearance. Some resemble distorted or ruined versions of real locations, while others form self-contained environments based on the functions of particular Appmon. These include palaces, mansions, arenas and specialized digital environments such as Calendar World and the Appmon Cemetery.

Appearances[edit]
Anime[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
AR-Fields serve as the principal environments in which the Appli Drivers confront Appmon whose activities are affecting the Real World. By using their Appli Drives, the Appli Drivers can open gateways into an AR-Field and enter it with their Buddy Appmon. Once inside, the Appmon can remain materialized without requiring Appliarise.
The form of an AR-Field generally corresponds to either the Real World location with which it overlaps or the abilities of the Appmon inhabiting it. Battles and other disturbances within an AR-Field can interfere with the corresponding systems in the Real World, meaning that defeating or restoring the Appmon responsible is often necessary to end the incident.
Many AR-Fields are under Leviathan's influence and resemble devastated versions of the Human World. Other Appmon create more individualized environments. Calendamon, for example, inhabits Calendar World, while obsolete Appmon are sent to the legendary Appmon Cemetery.

Manga[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
In the Digimon Universe Appli Monsters manga, AR-Fields similarly exist between the Real World and the Net and allow humans to interact directly with Appmon.
Several Appmon possess individualized AR-Fields based on the functions of their applications. These include AR-Fields associated with Weathermon, Scorpmon, Gomimon, Sakusimon, Weatherdramon and Medicmon. The environments and conditions within each field reflect the abilities of the Appmon that controls or inhabits it.

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
In the Nintendo 3DS game, the AR-Field is the world inhabited by Appmon. It is a parallel world whose structure is virtually identical to that of the Real World. Appli Drivers can freely enter and leave it using their Appli Drives.
Ordinary humans are unable to see the AR-Field. Appli Drivers can, however, perceive distortions produced by it while they are still in the Real World. These distortions indicate that an Appmon is present at the corresponding location within the AR-Field.
Humans present within an AR-Field are referred to simply as "Drivers". Those who possess an Appli Drive and are capable of opening gateways to the AR-Field are known as "Appli Drivers".[1]
The AR-Field serves as the game's second overworld. While exploring it, Kazuki/Itsuki can speak with Appmon and other Appli Drivers, collect items and encounter enemy Appmon. Hostile Appmon appear as black shadows bearing Applink cables, and coming into contact with one initiates a battle.
Appmon Chip Fragments appear as small lights bearing the symbol of their respective Attribute, while treasure boxes and other items are scattered throughout the field. These objects and enemy encounters appear at random and can respawn indefinitely.
Appmon can use the AR-Field to interact with and affect mechanical devices in the Real World. This can produce AR Dungeons, specialized locations within the AR-Field that Appli Drivers can explore. Defeating the Appmon responsible for creating an AR Dungeon causes the dungeon to disappear.
Story-related AR Dungeons that do not contain a "last boss" can therefore only be completed once, while optional AR Dungeons can be explored repeatedly. Clearing an AR Dungeon for the first time rewards Kazuki/Itsuki with a Clear Token.
AR Dungeons contain the same types of randomly generated items and encounters found in the main AR-Field. Certain special dungeons also contain red enemy shadows. Unlike ordinary black shadows, these represent powerful Ultimate Appmon. They move slowly but are considerably more difficult to defeat.
A special corrupted variety of AR-Field known as the Chaos AR-Field also appears in the game.
Appli Monsters: Protect the World[edit]
AR-Fields appear as battle environments in Appli Monsters: Protect the World. Two visually distinct versions of the AR-Field were used during the game's operation.
