Asuka Torajirou is one of the protagonists in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.
Profile[edit]
Astora (sometimes spelled Astra) is cheerful, jovial, and always full of energy. He is the youngest member of the Appli Driver group, which sometimes makes him seem a bit childish, but he never loses heart in difficult situations and knows how to lift the spirits of those around him. Astora is also shown to be very popular at school, where his classmates are enthusiastic fans of his AppTube videos.
His Buddy Appmon is Musimon. The two are highly synchronized and form a particularly close bond. When Gatchmon first suggests that he Appliarise Musimon, Astora agrees without hesitation, unlike Haru and Eri when they first faced the same decision.
Astora's family has served as the iemoto (masters) of a school of Japanese tea ceremony for generations, and as the last heir of the lineage, he has been raised to succeed them. His parents are patient and avoid putting excessive pressure on him, encouraging him to make his own decisions about his future. Although Astora is energetic and sometimes even hyperactive, he becomes much more composed when at home in his family's formal environment. He has studied several traditional Japanese arts and is particularly skilled in calligraphy. For much of his life, Astora struggled to balance his obligations to his family with his own dreams, eventually finding a way to reconcile the two.
Astora enjoys posting videos of his adventures on AppTube, where he has gained a large following. His personal catchphrase is: "Do I feel it? Don't I? I totally do!" Alternatively: "Will I? Won't I? Of course I will!" (ノレる? ノレない? 超ノレる! Noreru? Nore nai? Chō noreru!).

Etymology[edit]
The name Torajirou is composed of the kanji for "tiger" (虎 tora) and "next son" (次郎 jirō). Possibly a reference to his cat-like face and the colors of his clothes. The surname Asuka means "flying bird". Possibly after the Asuka period of Japan, and a likely reference to his family being very traditional. His nickname "Astora" comes from a combination of the first two kana letters of his surname and name, "Asu" (あす) and "Tora" (とら), as well as a likely reference to Astra (アストラ Asutora), a software used for video broadcasting.

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Astora was born in 2005 as the son of Asuka Ryūtarou, the manager of a teahouse, and Jenny, an Englishwoman. The family lives in Kodaira, a city within the Tokyo metropolitan area, and in 2016, Astora attended Takanodai Elementary School (Class 5-2). One day, after watching a funny video on AppTube, he began dreaming of becoming an AppTuber despite fearing his father's disapproval. While lost in thought, a drone dropped a box from the sky containing an Appli Drive and Musimon's Chip. Musimon spent the entire day playing with Astora. However, toward sunset, Astora attempted to part ways with Musimon, believing he was obligated to continue his family's traditions and abandon his own dreams. Musimon begged him not to leave him behind and encouraged him to listen to the "music of his heart", eventually convincing him otherwise. Astora later received his father's permission to use AppTube and began uploading comedic videos under the pseudonym "Astra".
On November 5, Haru and Gatchmon visited Astora after spotting his Appli Drive in one of his videos. When Watchmon disrupted clocks throughout the city, Musimon materialized for the first time and defeated him, purifying him of the L-Virus. Two weeks later, Haru introduced Astra to Eri, with whom he initially clashed due to their strong personalities.
In December, Rei stole the Chips of Ropuremon and Gomimon from Haru. Astora and the others attempted to follow Rei through the Net Ocean, but were ambushed by Sakusimon. Unexpectedly, Rei and Hackmon arrived to help them, forcing Sakusimon to retreat. Astra and the others then discovered that Hajime, Rei's younger brother, had been kidnapped by Leviathan. After Sakusimon's defeat, Rei returned the Chips before departing on his own once again.
On January 14, Astra and Eri battled Tellermon, who had been infected by the L-Virus. During the battle in the AR-Field, Astra nearly fell from a rooftop, but Eri grabbed his hand and saved him. A few days later, Astra, Musimon, and the others accompanied Haru to Denemon's old laboratory, where they met Timemon, who revealed the story of Leviathan and Minerva, the creator of the Appli Drives.
On February 18, Ryūtarou collapsed from stress-related illness. Although he recovered quickly, Astra became worried and conflicted, unsure whether he truly wanted to spend two years training at a Zen temple in Kyoto in order to become the successor to the teahouse, as his father wished. Dreammon later put Astra to the test, allowing him to overcome his anxieties. With Dreammon's help, Mediamon evolved into Entermon and defeated Medicmon, who had infected the health advice application used by Ryūtarou. Afterward, Astra explained to his father that he had decided not to move to Kyoto.

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Astra went to Nikotamagawa (North) in search for the Seven Code Appmon, though Musimon had to remind him that they weren't there for an AppTube shoot. Having overheard him, Kazuki/Itsuki asked him if he was an acquaintance of Shinkai Haru, which made Astra realize that Kazuki/Itsuki was the kind Appli Driver Haru met in the Hifumigaoka area, though he couldn't remember their name. As he knew Kazuki/Itsuki was reliable, Astra wasted no time in asking him for help looking for AppTube content, leading Musimon to once again remind him they were looking for the Seven Code Appmon, triggering the "Feeling It or Not? Investigation" sub quest after Kazuki/Itsuki agreed using Astra's "totally feeling it" catchphrase. Astra then introduced himself by his nickname, so Musimon had to state his real name was Asuka Torajirou. Kazuki/Itsuki attempted to call him Torajirou but Astra made it clear he went by his nickname, so Kazuki/Itsuki called him as such instead. Astra then left to look for the Seven Code Appmon, without even giving Kazuki/Itsuki his contact info, so Kazuki/Itsuki tried to contact him via AppTube comments instead. Looking for him in AppTube, they found that he had just uploaded a video in a place with a bulleting board with flowing water. There, Kazuki/Itsuki found Astra alongside a crying child, who Astra attempted to cheer up with his AppTube video but failed to, so Kazuki/Itsuki proposed to use an Appmon instead. Astra agreed and had Musimon make the child a playlist that'd make his heart jump. This time, it worked, letting Kazuki/Itsuki ask the child why he was crying in the first place. He explained that his save data suddenly disappeared so Kazuki/Itsuki went into the AR-Field to see if an Appmon was behind it.
Inside the game's AR Dungeon, Kazuki/Itsuki, Astra and Musimon found a Savemon who had deleted the save data as a harsh lesson to the kid of how you couldn't just load a save and retry in reality. However, Astra disliked Savemon trying to force reality into their entertainment. After Kazuki/Itsuki defeated Savemon, he returned the save data and left. After confirming it with the child, Astra told him that next time, he should just start over instead of crying, and he could do so in reality as well. The kid then thanked his "weird big bro" and left, leaving Astra annoyed at the nickname. Astra then left to search for more AppTube content, even though Musimon once again reminded him they had to focus on the Seven Code Appmon.
Kazuki/Itsuki had to search AppTube once more to see where Astra had gone, this time Greenery Park, where Kazuki/Itsuki had battled Wakaba before. There, Astra was alongside a businessman whose head suddenly started hurting when he intended to relax, so Astra had Musimon put on some relaxing music. This worked, though the Appli Drivers knew there was something wrong with the park, especially Astra whose trained ears meant he could catch a nasty sound coming from a nearby streetlight. Musimon explained it was an ultrasonic wave, inaudible to humans, that could cause headaches to some. The culprit was an Onpamon inside its AR Dungeon, who thought the park belonged to him and humans polluted it. Astra told it its sound had no heart, which annoyed Onpamon who hit the Appli Drivers with its wave, causing Kazuki/Itsuki to see Astra as annoying. However, Astra fought against the wave's effects and instead asked Musimon to play a better sound. Musimon, who agreed with Astra's comment on Onpamon's sound having no heart, played music to truly shake the heart, which broke Onpamon's effect over Kazuki/Itsuki. After fighting it, Astra explained to Onpamon that its ideology had a big mistake: if those humans, who polluted the park, stopped coming, then the cleaning lady would too. Since that would be a problem, Onpamon accepted to stop blasting its ultrasonic wave and left.
Back in the Real World, the businessman realized the park was back to its relaxing state and vowed to pick up trash before coming home. Astra lamented that the Appmon they met weren't Seven Code Appmon, but was glad they found content for AppTube, including: "I tried battling an Appli Driver from this town!", which Kazuki/Itsuki immediately realized meant them. Kazuki/Itsuki accepted the fight so MCmon contacted them, even though no one called him. Astra thought MCmon was very groovy. MCmon confessed to be an Astra fan then activated the Remote Cyber Arena.
Astra opens the fight with Musimon + Recomon, which AppGattai into Mediamon. He follows that with Batterimon + Dancemon.
Astra was fine with his defeat since he got a great AppTube clip out of it. He intended to upload it immediately so MCmon had to remind him Appli Driver battle videos were not allowed on AppTube, and even if they were, no one but Appli Drivers could see them anyways. Therefore, the only upload would be MCmon's live stream of it. Annoyed, Astra decided to go home to film a video eating macadamia nuts with his nose.
Astra is the final opponent of the Media Cup Tournament. Before the fight starts, he points out how he feels good about battling there with Kazuki/Itsuki. He uses the same Appmon as before.
Astra was part of the Fujimizaka team in the Exchange Festival, alongside Haru, Karan Eri, and Katsura Rei. MCmon originally called Astra Torajirou, annoying him. After Astra and Eri went through their catchphrases, Kazuki/Itsuki was shocked they were all Haru's friends. With that done, MCmon declared the "Exchange Festival" (交流戦, Kōryū-sen) started.
Round 1, battle 1 of the Exchange Festival was Kazuki/Itsuki vs Astra. Ouji commented that Astra's Buddy Appmon was the music app's Appmon, Musimon, so whether he could feel it would decide the match, an explanation Kayo praised. Astra starts the fight with Mediamon + Dreammon, which AppGattai into Entermon. He then uses Dezipmon and Tripmon, both Applinked with Dogamon.
After the fight, Astra wasn't feeling it and told Kazuki/Itsuki that he shouldn't lose against anyone else after beating him. Ouji commented that Kazuki/Itsuki disrupted Astra's rhythm perfectly.
Finals was Kazuki/Itsuki vs Haru. Astra was totally feeling the finals. After it ended, while frustrated, Astra had to admit he had totally felt the battle and congratulated both sides.
The Exchange Festival can then be replayed as a normal tournament. The battles are the same as in the story: Astra, who is more fired up than ever; Rei, who isn't there to make friends; and Haru, who finds battling with Kazuki/Itsuki more thrilling than reading books and refuses to lose to them. All of them use the same Appmon as before.
Search App: "Feeling it?! The hit AppTuber Astra, or Asuka Torajirou! Oops, I said his real name. His Buddy Appmon is the music app's Musimon! The two of them are a perfect match!"
