Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth[edit]

The Dragon Vein is a system of ancient energy pathways hidden beneath Tokyo. Kuremi Kyoko discovers that Kamishiro Enterprises is utilizing Digital Waves that travel along these pathways. By mapping their routes, Kamishiro identifies a circular network whose paths converge at a single point.

According to their plan, this convergence point can be used to open a gateway between the Human World and the Digital World. To facilitate this process, the yellow machines known as EDEN Spots are installed throughout the city, functioning as energy convergence points that channel and concentrate the Digital Waves flowing through the Dragon Vein network.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]

The Energy Vein is the path along which the energy emitted by the World Tree is delivered through the Digital World: Iliad. It is an important resource of Iliad, comparable to electricity in the human world. Its main source was located in the Gear Forest and is defended by the mighty Bacchusmon. It does not flow in the Dark Field where the Titans are sealed in for partaking in Chronomon's rebellion against Homeostasis. When influenced by Chronomon, Plutomon ordered numerous assaults targeting the surface of Iliad to take the Energy Vein for the Titans, but all of them were repelled off by the might of the area guardians.

Eventually, Bacchusmon crumbled under the pressure of being the only one in-charge of defending Iliad's infrastructure, and began rendering himself drunk on increasing frequency to escape his responsibilities, mostly leaving his aide Sirenmon in charge of the defenses. When Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan, Misono Inori and Aegiomon appeared in the Abyss Area, a Titan army led by Sharkmon targeted a part of the Energy Vein and corrupted it before being forced to retreat, as the Agent and Hangyomon found out in the side mission "Hangyomon's Woes". The corruption of the Energy Vein caused it to make it hard to breathe in a spot underwater as well as making those in it go berserk. By the time Yuki, Inori and Aegiomon interfered in the Gear Forest, the Titans were able to warp the Energy Vein and directly invade the Guardian Palace.

8 years later, the Energy Vein was destroyed by the Titans in an attack seemingly crafted specifically to exploit Bacchusmon's increasing apathy and send him to ruin. This caused severe effects in the world, such as the Abyss Area's seas turning red and causing sickness to all Digimon in it, and more and more Digimon escaping towards the human world because of the increasingly inhospitable conditions, where they will be facing genocidal hatred from human government officials under D-SAT. Despite normal Digimon found living in places without the Energy Vein difficult, Titans have no issues living under such conditions as their natural habitat, the Dark Field, is unaffected by the Energy Vein. Destroying the Energy Vein was part of Chronomon's designs to instigate a three-way war so horrible and tragic that it would force Aegiomon to kill him out of rage. With (initial) help from Inori and Aegiomon, the Agent fixes the timeline to prevent the Apostles of Iliad from going to ruin and safeguarding the Energy Vein. It was eventually renewed when all of the Apostles of Iliad were rescued and formed the Olympos XII.
