Dark Area (Iliad)
The Dark Area (ダークエリア, Dāku Eria), also referred to as Dark Field (ダークフィールド, Dāku Fīrudo), is an area in Digital World: Iliad. Each Digital World has its own Dark Area and every Dark Area is connected to the Cocytus.[1]
Plutomon governs the realm of the dead and wanders the Digital World, pursuing criminals or villains who deserve to fall into the realm of the dead.[2]
Appearances[edit]
Digimon Crusader[edit]
The Dark Area is governed by Plutomon. It sometimes takes the form of Cerberumon: Werewolf Mode[3], a mutation of Cerberumon who resides in the Dark Area and is known as the "Watchdog of Hell". It feared that the data born from "human malice", overflowing on the Internet as text and images, could have an impact on the Digital World, so it mutated into this form in order to prevent an influx of that data.[4]

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]
The Dark Field is a remote location in the Digital World: Iliad, situated well below other areas of Iliad and is far removed from the Energy Vein, the primary source of life and energy in Iliad. For Chronomon's actions in the past, the Titans were punished and exiled to the Dark Field. Its area guardian is Plutomon, whom, as "Lord Plutomon", leads the Titan Army and reigns from its throne in the Dark Castle, which is found in the Dark Field.
Plutomon is a puppet leader of the Titans, having been under the control of Chronomon, who uses it to orchestrate the Titans’ invasion of Iliad. Once it ran out of usefulness, Chronomon turned it into the undead and berserk Zombie Plutomon before moving onto possessing Junomon. Shortly after Yuki Dan/Kanan retakes Central Town for Mercurymon, Mercurymon asks them to the Dark Field to negotiate with Plutomon. They arrive, only to find it was too late and Plutomon has been transformed into Zombie Plutomon. They travel back in time to prevent the death of Plutomon. They managed to do so, and a now-sane Plutomon tells them about the truth of the Titans and Chronomon. This does not prevent the Shinjuku Inferno from happening as Chronomon is already using Junomon to stage the event, but it allows Plutomon and the Titans to change sides and help the Apostles of Iliad in the battle against Chronomon.
Although it is a remote location, Digimon like Venusmon are able to visit the Dark Field, to help heal the injured Plutomon in Venusmon’s case. Before time-traveling, only Chrysalimon, Infermon and Skull Greymon will spawn, but after doing so, the spawn pool will be replaced by one with more varied species of feral Digimon, mostly of the Evil or Undead-type. Non-hostile Titans reside around the Dark Castle. Material crates in the Dark Field (taking the form of tree stumps) have a much higher chance of procuring an Emerald (can be sold for 18,000 Yen) or a Digi-Jewel (can be sold for 50,000 Yen).
Parts of the Dark Field are later erased from reality by a space-time rift and found in the Akashic Records.
