Titans
| |||||||
The Titans (タイタン族 Taitan-zoku) is an army of Digimon that rivals the Olympos XII.
In the past, a group of Digimon built up a civilisation independently within the Dark Area; the Digimon residing within the dark city, known as "Erebus", came to collectively be known as the Titans. It was an unusual group in that they were not segregated by Digimon species or type, and even outsiders could become part of the Titans so long as they earned the Titans' recognition.
In the age of Ancient Iliad, the Titans began to invade other areas; the Olympos XII opposed their actions and tried to stop them, leading to a fierce war between the two factions. After an intense battle, the Titans were defeated and all but annihilated. The reason behind their invasion remains unclear to this day.
Plutomon did not return the souls of the defeated Digimon to Digitama, instead keeping them confined within Erebus. In the present, the dark city has become a ruin infested with the vengeful spirits of the fallen Titans.[1] Titamon was born from the hatred of the Digimon defeated by the Olympos XII in battles over the sovereignty of the Digital World.[2]

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]
The Titans are the main antagonistic faction of the game. They are the ancient guardians of Iliad who once joined Chronomon in his rebellion against Homeostasis, but were all quickly defeated and banished to the Dark Field where its Energy Vein doesn't flow. Chronomon was imprisoned inside the Akashic Records and left to succumb in despair until he yearns for death, and Plutomon became the leader of the Titans since then. During some unknown time period, Titamon appeared from another world and went onto a rampage, and was defeated and recruited by Plutomon.
As they live in the Dark Field, the Titans do not feel discomfort in areas where the Energy Vein is not present or is compromised, while a normal Digimon might go berserk or feel uncomfortable in such conditions. Some of them might also be much larger than an average Digimon and/or have glowing red eyes, although this varies from specimen and individual, and Titans that appear in the later stages of the game tend to not have red, glowing eyes. It is possible for Digimon like Hangyomon to move between being a Titan and an ordinary Digimon.
To fulfill his own grand designs, Chronomon spread a legend across Iliad where he sacrificed his life to defeat the Titans and entrusted his mission to Aegiomon, worsening the Titan's hatred against the rest of Iliad and allowing him to possess Plutomon by exploiting his resentment against the fabricated history the higher powers presented to the world. Plutomon then unleashed a series of attacks across Iliad ostensibly to capture Iliad's Energy Vein for the Titans, all of them which were successfully repelled off by the might of the area guardians. When Dan/Kanan, Aegiomon and his human partner Misono Inori first entered the Digital World, they helped repel some of the Titan onslaughts both to protect the Digital World and as a deal with Junomon in exchange of returning to their own world.
Things changed drastically however, when Junomon accidentally summoned entire hordes of Titans and rogue Digimon into the human world out of a fit of rage against Aegiomon refusing to join her in defending the Digital World. Over a span of 8 years following the incident, the Titans instantly took over all of Iliad and compromised its guardians using dirty tactics and/or exploitation of their personality flaws. Mercurymon, the guardian of Central Town, was shot in the knee by a poisoned arrow, which rendered him ailing and impotent and allowed the Titans to turn Central Town into a crime-ridden slum while its original inhabitants were forced to escape into the human world, where they will be suffering from persecution. Moderate Titan leader Neptunemon was tricked by Ranamon through his close ally Venusmon and Aegiomon into drinking poisoned wine which killed him, and realizing that she had a hand in his death, Venusmon died by despair. Bacchusmon was subject to a scheme that resulted in the death of all of Gear Village's beloved citizens, which caused him to become despondent and thus he committed suicide by poison. The Factorial Area was turned into a Titan-ran Colosseum where Callismon ruled over with brute force. All of these were instigated and manipulated by Chronomon so more Digimon will be pushed towards the human world, which would force the hands of humans working under D-SAT to unknowingly create a vessel for him to induce the Shinjuku Inferno.
Once the entirety of Iliad was compromised, Chronomon deemed Plutomon to be no longer of any use and turned him into Zombie Plutomon. Junomon then became Chronomon's new host, who provided Digimon for D-SAT to create the Giant Slayer. Eventually, with the help of a friendly Titan Gekomon who served Plutomon, the protagonist saves Plutomon by traveling back in time and learnt the truth of the world's history from it. This does not stop the Titans from invading the human world, as it was heavily implied that Chronomon used Junomon to take control of the other Titans and used her powers to release them into the human world regardless.
However, with Plutomon being alive and sane once again, the protagonist was able to bring some other Titans to their side against Chronomon as well. It ordered some of the Titans they once fought to free some of their brethren such as Titamon (now reincarnated as a Tunomon), who formed a temporary alliance with them to help free the other Digimon who were imprisoned by Junomon, who was in return freed from Chronomon's control by the Agent and Minervamon. Furthermore, Plutomon and a group of Titans, including Sharkmon and Callismon were present in the Akashic Records and teamed up with the Olympos XII to aid the party in their mission to reach and slay Chronomon in various ways.
Gameplay-wise, "Titan" is a gene exclusive to some boss Digimon and foes with this gene can be hit by Aegiomon's Stun Beat Blow for increased damage. This however, does not apply to all confirmed members of the Titans in-game, with an increasing amount of Digimon that are treated as Titans story-wise lacking the "Titan" gene later on in the game.

Digimon Card Game[edit]
- For a list of cards with the Titan trait in the Digimon Card Game, see: Category:List of Cards with the Titan Trait
P-209 Titamon is the first card with the Titan trait characteristic. The Titan trait interacts with "TS" (Time Stranger abbreviated) trait cards. A number of cards in BT-24 Time Stranger, BT25 Dual Revolution, and BT-26 Timeless Bonds are given the Titan trait as well.
While most cards that refer to Titan Digimon in-game have the "Titan" trait on their card counterparts, cards like BT24-011 Cyclomon and BT24-030 Neptunemon lack the trait despite being treated as Titans in the game.
