Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]

During some unknown time period, Ranamon became acquainted with Shellmon and explicitly refers to her as such even after she evolved into Venusmon.

In the present day, Ranamon (supposedly) belonged to a moderate faction of the Titans who disliked the fighting. In actuality, she actively works for Chronomon's grand designs, but without her actually knowing it. Unlike other Titans, she is not physically strong, and instead relied on manipulations and "non-violent means" such as poison to get her way.

Back in the Digital World, the Titans successfully compromised and occupied most of Iliad, forcing Mercurymon to parley negotiations with the Titans. Neptunemon had been ignoring orders in favor of negotiations, something that led Plutomon (who was directly possessed by Chronomon) to deem Neptunemon a traitor and send Ranamon to trick Aegiomon into assassinating him. Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan, Inori, and Aegiomon first meet Ranamon when they return to the digital world to find a healer for Mercurymon, who was left ailing after being struck by a poison dart. She explains that there are some moderate Titans who are tired of the fighting and offers to take the group to Shellmon (now Venusmon), who had previously saved her life, using Master Blimpmon as transport.

In a usual timeline, Ranamon would give the party a flask of wine supposedly laced with a sedative meant to be a peace offering to the Titans, and task them to deliver it to the Titan leader, who, unbeknown to Venusmon, was Neptunemon. The wine turns out to be deadly poison, killing Neptunemon. Venusmon also fell into despair and died as a result. She then destroyed the entire Abyss Area by spraying poison from above using the poison canisters she held within Master Blimpmon, killing everything else in the area including the party (although they manage to escape by traveling back in time). Venusmon and Neptunemon's deaths were part of Chronomon's plan to prevent the Olympos XII from intervening with the clash between Aegiomon and the Giant Slayer, which would cause the world-ending Shinjuku Inferno unless if the timelines are corrected. Additionally, amongst all of Chronomon's Titan pawns, Ranamon was especially notable for furthering his nefarious designs, as she also deceived and gravely injured Kuremi Kodai off-screen during the Titan attack on Shinjuku 8 years ago, which caused Kuroi Shota to form D-SAT in hopes of annihilating all Digimon in the human world and directly led to the creation of said Giant Slayer. Getting the humans to create the weapon is likely unintentional on Ranamon's end, however.

After the group successfully goes back in time and warns Venusmon, Ranamon attempts to fee on Master Blimpmon, but the group manages to hop aboard in time. Ranamon then reveals herself to have been the one who poisoned the wine. She attempts to fight the group and Venusmon.

During her boss fight, she can use Ocean Wave II, Ocean Wave III, Venom Trap, and a modified version of Rain Stream that affects the party and can inflict Poison. She's weak to Fire, extremely weak to Electricity, resists Metal and blocks Water (same as playable version) and is affected by Poison. She has the genes "Titan", "Medium", "Fairy" and "Aquatic".

After being defeated, Ranamon complained about the hardship the Titans went through because of Chronomon's curse and the grudge it created, before running away and jumping off of Master Blimpmon.

Later, after the group successfully stops Neptunemon from drinking the poison, a frustrated Ranamon appears. She reveals that she was the one who assassinated Kuremi 8 years ago, then transformed into Calamaramon and attacks the group. Calmaramon has a similar effectiveness profile as the Ranamon mid-boss prior, Apart from basic attacks, she can use Ocean Wave III, Nightmare III, Hell Crusher III, Venom Trap, Mental Break and "Hahahaha!" (sharply boosts ATK, INT and CRT Rate). Her affinities are identical to those from her Ranamon form and identical to her playable counterpart, and is affected by Sleep (although some of her moves can be activated through sleep). She has the "Titan", "Aquatic" and "Medium" genes.

If her HP drops beneath a certain threshold, she will lower the party's accuracy with "Wander in the Darkness!" before charging for two turns to use a modified version of Titanic Charge that can poison. To interrupt this attack, the Player must attack Calamaramon (Mantle) which becomes targettable at this time. Calamaramon (Mantle) is weak to Plant, Earth, Holy and Null; immune to Electricity, and completely nullifies all physical attacks.

Upon her defeat, Calamaramon points out that it means nothing as the Titans' grudge can't be extinguished. Venusmon asks if she truly felt no gratitude when Venusmon saved her, but rather then answer the question, Calamaramon simply stated that she did all of this to prove her worth to the rest of the Titans and that she was jealous of Venusmon's true kidness before dying. Defeating Ranamon and preventing Neptunemon from drinking the poisoned wine saves Venusmon and Neptunemon, making them the first members of the Olympos XII.

Alternate Dimension[edit]

Further context of Ranamon's assassination of Kuremi was provided in the Alternate Dimension DLC, where she was one of the Titans that appeared in the human world following Junomon's breakdown. When Kuremi spotted her in Kabuki-cho, she pretended to beg for mercy so Kuremi would leave her alone. When he turned his back, Ranamon attempted to kill him.

A copy of her attacked the party in the Akashic Backdoor after the aforementioned event played out in a flashback. In the battle, her skills are mostly identical for both forms, but her attack behavior is significantly more erratic and has higher stats. She starts the battle using Rain Stream and "Hahahaha!" before the party can act. Her other skills are Ocean Wave III and Hydro Water III. Upon being defeated, she will instantly transform into Calamaramon. Unlike in the previous fight, she will skip straight into using "Wander in the Darkness!" and charge for two turns to use Titanic Charge. Her break gauge is also significantly bulkier compared to her story boss battle and is extremely difficult, if not impossible to break on the initial attempt in higher difficulties. She also adds Mental Break, Hell Crusher III and Nightmare III in addition to her skills as Ranamon. All her of elemental affinities are identical to her story battle and playable counterpart(s).
