Its Special Moves are striking with all its strength at anyone and everyone who talks back to it (Tekken Seisai), and "Hinukamuy" loosing heaven's punishment at Gankoomon's harsh words, "Jishin! Kaminari! Kaji! Oyaji!" Furthermore, its "Chabudai Gaeshi" upends the ground as if it were a chabudai made of Chrome Digizoid, and the ground, being treated like a chabudai, becomes as hard as if it was made of Chrome Digizoid. "Hinukamuy" is itself in the process of evolving from an Adult, and it is said that when its power awakens, there couldn't exist any kind of Digimon to be recognized as a rival. He came up with the idea of incorporating elements of a master-apprentice relationship into the Digimon who would fill the last two vacant slots in the Royal Knights lineup, where the master (who ultimately developed into Gankoomon) is one of the Royal Knights and is training an apprentice (who developed into Hackmon) to be a new member. Watanabe Kenji designed Gankoomon as a "fatherly figure" whom, for various reasons, the other Royal Knights cannot stand. To reflect this, he wanted a name which connoted a "stubborn dad." During the rough draft phase, it was named Andrewmon 「アンドリューモン」. Its finalized name, Gankoomon, retains the connotation of stubbornness through use of Okinawan vocabulary. Continuing the "stubborn dad" theme, some of Gankoomon's attack techniques are named after idioms that are associated with the temperaments of fathers. Chabudai Gaeshi is a clichéd act of fathers experiencing outbursts of anger and frustration in Japanese fiction. Jishin! Kaminari! Kaji! Oyaji! takes its name from the proverb 「地震雷火事親父 Jishin kaminari kaji oyaji」, which likens fathers to the mentioned natural disasters as something to be feared. Some details in Gankoomon's Digimon Reference Book profile also reflect its Okinawan namesake: the "southwestern edges" of the Digital World which it is said to inhabit can be taken as an allusion to the Ryukyu Islands (two thirds of which are comprised by Okinawa Prefecture), which are also known as the Nansei Islands 「南西諸島」 (lit. "Southwest Islands").

Hiragana Digimon: A Tale of the Royal Knights

Gankoomon makes a cameo in the title page of Episode 1 alongside the rest of the Royal Knights.

In Episode 2, "Training", JESmon explained his master, Gankoomon, was very tough on him, such as tossing him down from a mountain over and over after he climbed it back when he was a Hackmon, something only an elite like him could endure. In "Gankoomon", JESmon brought Wanyamon to Gankoomon, who was pumping weights, to be his apprentice, but Gankoomon didn't hear him. Wanyamon greeted Gankoomon and JESmon shouted at him to speak louder and insulted him, which caused Gankoomon to send him flying with one uppercut. Gankoomon then praised Wanyamon's greeting while petting him, confusing the hurt JESmon. Then in "Master", JESmon reminsced about how strict Gankoomon was as a teacher, remembering how he screamed several orders at him while he was hurt as the teacher's anger took the form of Hinukamuy. In the present, however, he was far kinder to Wanyamon, telling the Baby II to take a nap and giving him snacks and a bitcoin as pocket money. JESmon screamed Gankoomon had gone completely soft while Dynasmon thought Gankoomon and Wanyamon were like grandfather and grandson. Following in "Speak Up", JESmon asked an exhausted Wanyamon what was wrong and the latter answered Gankoomon kept telling him to speak loudly. JESmon thought his master had finally gone back to how he was in the past, but in reality he was just getting hard of hearing and asked JESmon for a hearing aid. Then in "Hide and Seek", Wanyamon and Gankoomon played hide and seek. Wanyamon easily found Gankoomon who was hiding behind a rock due to his Hinukamuy aura. JESmon thought Gankoomon was spoiling Wanyamon.

This all led to "Master and Disciple Showdown", where JESmon screamed at Gankoomon when he had gone soft. Gankoomon merely asked him to lower his voice in response, then explained there was no need for Wanyamon to train while he was so young and he should just enjoy being a child and play as his personality would suffer if he was pushed too hard. This only angered JESmon even further as he asked his teacher about said effects on the trainee's personality. They then fought each other, with Gankoomon releasing Hinukamuy and JESmon summoning Atho, René, and Por; as Gankoomon stated JESmon was too strict on others and too mean and JESmon answered that was Gankoomon's fault. Dynasmon decided to leave alongside Wanyamon, who thought the fight between master and student was cool.

Hackmon played a Gankoomon during its fight against Yuuki in "THROUGH THE FIRE AND METAL", who it referred to as its "master". It then immediately evolved into Gankoomon (X-Antibody) through its When Played effect.

Gankoomon is Hackmon's guardian. He summons characters from various worlds to fix a distortion that threatens the Digital World. After they succeed, he rewards them with a battle, making him the final boss of the game.

Gankoomon is the 84rd and final obligatory boss of the game, fighting Agumon and two other protagonist Digimon at the end of Episode 74, "Everyone Unite! The Final Battle", without any breaks or healing from the previous boss battle. He can deal damage to one Digimon with Chabudai Gaeshi, deal multiple hits to one Digimon with Tekken Seisai, deal damage, Break and Shock to the entire party with Jishin! Kaminari! Kaji! Oyaji!, or increase his attack and defense with Fighting Spirit. He can attack three times per turn and counter any damage taken with a critical hit thanks to his Continuous Action and Ultra Counter support abilities. After being defeated, he drops a Focus DigiPiece.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

Gankoomon is one of the Royal Knights and the master of Hackmon. It is also an obtainable Digimon which is evolved from Superstarmon or Death Meramon. Its element is Fire and its special attacks are Jishin! Kaminari! Kaji! Oyaji! and Chabudai Gaeshi. It also learns Volcanapalm III, Accel Boost, Attack Charge Field, Meteor Fall II, and Meteor Fall III. Its support ability is Master's Pride.
