Cosmic Area (コズミック・エリア Kozumikku Eria) is an area in the Digital World: Iliad.

Overview[edit]

Cosmic Area is protected by Apollomon and Dianamon.

One part scorching heat and one part freezing cold. Somehow, these two vastly different environments manage to coexist together in this layer. The Cosmic Area is ruled over by Apollomon and Dianamon of the Olympos XII, who also preside over the sun and moon. Due to the harsh environment, only Digimon with high physical abilities can survive in this region.[1]

Grace Novamon, an enormous white Digimon and the fusion of Apollomon and Dianamon, is stated in legend to emerge from the Cosmic Area to prevent a crisis when Digital World: Iliad is on the brink of ruin.[2][1]

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]

It is a desolate area previously uninhabited by Digimon because of its harsh climates.

Eight years in the past, Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan helps Coronamon get to Heat Cosmic in the side mission "I Want to Go Someplace Legendary!" and Lunamon to Chill Cosmic in the following side mission, "Impatience and Determination". Eventually, Coronamon and Lunamon evolved into Apollomon and Dianamon respectively and became the area guardians of the Cosmic Area, and made it habitable by other Digimon.

Unlike most of Iliad, the Cosmic Area is not visibly compromised after the timeskip, and Apollomon and Dianamon were actually preparing to go to war with the Titans. However, their relationship had became strained and the two area guardians were too focused on infighting to actually deal with the Shinjuku Inferno.

The Agent gets involved with the Cosmic Area after learning that D-SAT got their Digimon from Dianamon, so they travel to Cosmic Area to meet with her in "Fire and Ice at War". At first, they nearly cause an incident by telling this to the gatekeepers of Cosmic Area, Wizarmon and Sorcerimon. Thankfully, Pumpmon intervenes and lies on their behalf, stopping the fight and letting them continue onwards. After Pumpmon learns of the Agent's intentions, he joins their party and guides them throughout the area, explaining that Cosmic Area is divided in two halves: Heat Cosmic and Chill Cosmic, and which one someone can travel to depends on the switch at the end of the Cosmic Terminal the Agent arrived in, which Wizarmon and Sorcerimon allow them to use. While the Agent seeks Dianamon, leader of Chill Cosmic, Pumpmon convinces them to go to Heat Cosmic instead to meet with Apollomon, who Dianamon is in a conflict with, to see if he can reason with her, as Dianamon's heart is completely shut.

During their trip through Heat Cosmic, the Agent finds and collects Heat Seeds, concentrated masses of heat flowing with the power of the Energy Vein. While they're ultimately unable to meet with Apollomon due to a massive firewall on their way, similar to smaller ones that blocked the way to items, Pumpmon thinks of the Heat Seeds and gets the idea to use the Chill Seed, the cold equivalent to the Heat Seed, to eliminate the firewall. As such, the team travels to Chill Cosmic, opening their way through by using the Heat Seeds to melt the ice, though even that can't remove the ice wall that blocks the way to Dianamon.

Having obtained the Chill Seed, the team returns to Heat Cosmic, using said seed to remove all the firewalls on their way. Upon clearing the biggest one, they find a group of Tuchidarumon who tried to stop them by rolling down a cliff into them. Breaking through them through DigiAttacks, the party got to Megidramon, their leader, surrounded by a group of Meramon and Tuchidarumon, who immediately attacked them, though they were also fell.

Reaching Apollomon, Coronamon's evolved form, in his throne, he was aware the Agent wanted him to make peace with Dianamon but refused to, blaming Dianamon for their situation and ordering them to leave. The Agent's refusal caused Apollomon to attack them. After being defeated, Apollomon acknowledges the Agent's strength and finally recognizes who they are. After confirming the Agent knew the rumours about Dianamon, he resolves to stop her himself, his duty as her family. He then leaps out of his throne and into the next area, terrifying Pumpmon as he thought it'd lead to an all-out war. There, he finds out a Heat Seed's gone missing and gets even angrier at Dianamon. As the Agent went through Heat Cosmic, they found both burning pieces of rock caused by Apollomon's rampage, and Apollomon himself in ever-growing rage.

Reaching the Cosmic Terminal, they find a terrified Wizarmon and Sorcerimon. Pumpmon refuses to explain the situation to them however, prioritizing reaching Dianamon instead. Once they reach there, they see multiple injured Digimon and several flaming rocks the Chill Seed could remove, prompting them to go after Apollomon. Farther in, the ice wall that once protected Dianamon was completely shattered by Apollomon, allowing the party passage. They now find a group of Penmon who tried to stop them by sliding down an ice slope into them like the Tuchidarumon before. No generic enemies save for said Penmon will spawn in this version of Chill Cosmic. Breaking through them through DigiAttacks, the party got to an already wounded Vikemon, who attacked them. They fell it and reach Apollomon and Dianamon.

The Agent and Pumpmon then find Apollomon arguing with Dianamon. Apollomon confronts Dianamon over the rumour of her handing over Digimon to humans but Dianamon ignores it completely, instead complaining about Apollomon's lack of regard to anyone else's feelings, especially her own, despite being useless on his own. Apollomon takes the criticism poorly, reminding Dianamon that she always treated him like he was incompetent. In anger, Apollomon drops his attempt of making up and decides to fight instead. There, Apollomon asks one last time why she changed so much but Dianamon is unable to answer him, complaining about how he had been at her side all the time yet never noticed and it was now too late to admit how she wanted him to notice her. After defeating Dianamon, Apollomon apologizes for not realizing Dianamon was suffering sooner despite being her family. Dianamon then tells the party that Junomon told her to send Digimon to the human world as envoys so humans could understand them better and she was fully unaware of what was happening to them. Furthermore, she asked Minervamon for help but she never returned, causing Dianamon to lose sight of who was really on her side, even seeing Apollomon as an enemy. Dianamon asks for Apollomon's forgiveness but Apollomon blames himself. Apollomon then proposes they both go to question Junomon together. To do so, both join the Agent's party:

  • Apollomon is a level 55 Digimon with the Wolkenapalm III, Attack Field, Magic Field and Saint Knuckle III Attachment Skills.
  • Dianamon is a level 47 Digimon with no Attachment Skills.

The player might then backtrack to Chill Cosmic to find the last Outer Dungeon in the game, Protect the Giant Digimeat 4, behind Dianamon's throne room. Normal enemies will spawn there again. Unlike the other areas unlocked after reaching Agent Rank 7, both sides of the Cosmic Area can be revisited as whole dungeons.
