Guardian Palace (ガーディアン・パレス Gādian Paresu) is the uppermost layer of Digital World: Iliad.

Overview[edit]

Guardian Palace is protected by Jupitermon and Junomon.

An imposing temple located on the uppermost layer of Iliad. This area is governed by two strict Digimon: Jupitermon and Junomon. As such, few Digimon dare to approach this region on their own, meaning the solemn silence befitting the temple remains unbroken. It is a sanctuary and information hub where data from all other regions are gathered to maintain peace throughout Iliad. The Olympos XII also hold regular meetings here.[1]

In Digimon Story: Time Stranger, it is the residence of Junomon, the "Oracle" of Iliad, and is defended by Angel-type Digimon.

Guardian Palace in Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Yuki Dan/Kanan, Misono Inori and Aegiomon first pay a visit to here 8 years ago to ask Junomon to return them to their own world, as she was the one in charge of the Digital Gates. Junomon refuses, citing that the sheer number of Titan attacks occurring within Iliad would make it too risky, but promises to let them return if they could stop the Titan attacks in the Abyss Area and the Gear Forest. They fulfill Junomon's deal accordingly and return only to find out that the Palace is also under Titan attack. After defeating the Orgemon brothers leading the assault, Titamon himself appears and knocks Junomon down her throne trying to claim Chronomon's treasure. Junomon opens a gate for Yuki and Inori to return to their own world with the treasure so she could keep Aegiomon in charge of Iliad's defense and for herself, but Aegiomon refuses because of his deep bonds he made with Inori. This enrages Junomon and she flies into a rage creating multiple vortexes connecting the Digital and human worlds, throwing numerous Titans and rogue Digimon into Shinjuku alongside Yuki, Inori and Aegiomon.

In the present day, Junomon was overran by the grief of being rejected by Aegiomon, and was possessed by Chronomon, turning her into Junomon: Hysteric Mode. In this state, Junomon was absolutely insane and furthered Chronomon's plans by imprisoning any Digimon she suspected were Titans and tricking Dianamon into sending them to the human world, supposedly as emissaries. In actuality, the Digimon were sent to D-SAT to be sacrificed to the Giant Slayer without her knowledge. When Dianamon found out and tried to ask Minervamon about it, Junomon imprisoned her as well.

Courtesy of Junomon's insanity, the Guardian Palace is no longer open to outsiders, and all non-hostile Digimon who once appeared in the area 8 years ago have vanished. The surroundings and interior of the Palace had went dim, with statues becoming more menacing looking with their eyes glowing red (such as the face behind Junomon's throne), and walls now having an ominous red glow on them, making it look like as if there were eyes on the walls. On top of this, there is a perpetual sealing spell (known as "Iliad Temple's Sealing Spell" in-game) that grossly buffs the Angel Digimon while heavily weakening the rest. As a result, the party will start any battle inside the Palace with a 50% speed debuff. This debuff can be removed by skill effects, but it does not go away on its own.

Yuki alone, alongside Apollomon, Dianamon and a Pumpmon visited here to save Junomon from her insanity. When they meet Junomon however, she refuses to respond to their inquiries, and Pumpmon reveals itself to be serving Chronomon. Junomon takes them out in one hit using Lingrudge and imprisons them. There, Pumpmon taunts them, but several Titans summoned by Plutomon appeared and break the jail cell, killing Pumpmon instantly. From that point on, they must cooperate with Titamon and Skull Baluchimon (who have respectively devolved into a Tunomon and a Dorimon) to free the other prisoners, free Minervamon, and challenge Junomon.

To rescue Minervamon, the Agent must deactivate the Mit-Device (ミトー端末), which appears at the start of the next room. However, the device is locked by a pair of devices known as the Beginning-Device (キシュー端末) and the End-Device (オワリー端末), on the opposite side of the Palace as the Mit-Device. Both of them are placed behind moving wall puzzles where eye-shaped lightbulbs can be Digi-attacked to change the layout of the area. Unlocking the Beginning-Device The Beginning-Device at the bottom of the Palace West Side results in the player, Tunomon, Dorimon and Witchmon having to escape from a grossly buffed Clavis Angemon. Unlocking the End-Device at the top area results in an encounter with the Orgemon brothers, but no fight will start. Just like in the Dark Field, crates in the Guardian Palace's prison ward have a higher chance of procuring a valuable item.

After deactivating both switches, the Agent and the Titans will return to the prison ward where Clavis Angemon summons a large group of reinforcements, who easily defeat Apollomon and Dianamon with the Iliad Temple's protection. The party escapes and Clavis Angemon intercepts them only to find himself inside the Agent's former Jail Cell where he is no longer affected by the Temple's protection and can be defeated normally. They take Clavis Angemon down and Tunomon uses the remaining power from Chronomon's Treasure to let the Agent lock him away, going behind Clavis Angemon before closing the prison gates allows the Agent to pick up the item "Clavis Angemon's the Charm" (applies Attack Reflect at the start of battle). Meanwhile, the Iliad Temple's protection is shut off in the rest of the prison ward and the remaining prisoners, who were freed prior, teamed up with the Titans to defeat the reinforcements offscreen. Minervamon is still trapped however as her cell is reinforced, but the Temple's protection being weakened means that Apollomon and Dianamon can just brute force through it. Having been freed Minervamon, the Agent parts ways with Apollomon, Dianamon and the Titans and goes to fight Junomon with Minervamon.

When meeting Junomon, she, like several other Digimon, noticed that Yuki's form was slowly disintegrating back to those of Aegiomon's and mistakes them as such. She goes onto an insane rant about her care for Aegiomon and attacks them and Minervamon. They defeat her and she was freed from Chronomon's possession.

Yuki can revisit the area in the present day after gaining the ability to time-jump, but nothing can be done there on its own (beyond finding one of Sagisaka Hiroko's monikers in a side mission), and the Prison Ward can no longer be revisited. Furthermore, Junomon is the only Digimon that remained in the Guardian Palace (aside of the Dracumon card vendor). Most of the Angel Digimon from Guardian Palace escaped off-screen and ended up in the High-Rise Colosseum where they can be fought as participants.

Inhabitants[edit]

Important characters[edit]
Minor characters (pre-timeskip)[edit]

Some of the NPCs listed below re-appeared in High-Rise Colosseum following the 8-year timeskip.

Imprisoned during the 8-year timeskip[edit]

Most of these Digimon are rescued and freed by Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan, Dianamon and Apollomon, mostly with help from Titans summoned by Plutomon.

Story[edit]

When Yuki Dan/Kanan and the Titans deactivate most of the Prison Ward's locks and escapes from warden Clavis Angemon, these Digimon were tasked to dispatch the escaping inmates. They were all surrounded and taken out by the inmates Yuki and the Titans freed.

Random encounters[edit]

All of these can no longer be encountered after defeating Junomon: Hysteric Mode. Tailmon, Angewomon, Holy Angemon and Angemon will appear in the prison ward's West Block after the prisoners other than Minervamon are freed.
