Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth[edit]
Kodai (who is never directly named in the story) was a private detective, friends with Gorou Matayoshi and the founder of the Kuremi Detective Agency. Several years ago, he investigated Kamishiro Enterprises, but died during the investigation. This led his daughter Kuremi Kyoko to take over his agency and begin her own investigation into Kamishiro.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]
8 years in the past, Kodai is a member of the Public Security Mystery Department Investigation Team investigating phase electron lifeforms. He is the direct superior of both Shiroki Asuna and Kuroi Shota and former coworker of Misono Kosuke. He also has a daughter roughly Misono Inori's age, Kuremi Kyoko.
During the Titan attack in the human world 8 years ago, he shows mercy to Ranamon, who agreed to negotiate. After Kodai dropped his guard, Ranamon gravely injured him and he resigned from Public Security. The incident poisoned Kuroi's mind with hatred of Digimon and contributed to the eventual creation of D-SAT and the Giant Slayer.
In the Alternate Dimension DLC, an alternate timeline Kodai is followed. After leaving the hospital, this Kodai began physical therapy, but was told that the after-effects of his injuries would never fully go away, leading to him retiring form Public Security. Kosuke, who was planning to shut down his private investigation practice (in order to join D-SAT), suggested that Kodai pursue that line of work, even offering Kodai his materials and to connect him with some of his contacts. During the creation of the Giant Slayer, Shota attempted to recruit Kodai into D-SAT, but Kodai turned him down.
Alternate Dimension[edit]
In one timeline where the Shinjuku Inferno failed to reset the timeline, Asuna convinced Kodai to work with her and Monica Simmons to defeat Parallelmon, who had started rampaging around Shijuku. Kodai's agreement put him at odds with Kyoko, who felt like he didn't care about her or her mother. Monica provided him with a special gun (based off Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan's Digivice) and equipped it with special tranquilizer rounds meant to calm down rampaging Digimon.
During his confrontation with Parallelmon, Kodai was sent to the Akashic Backdoor, where he would fight a rampaging Omegamon Zwart DEFEAT. Kodai, recognizing that the Digimon wasn't in full control of itself, chose to fight it with the tranquilizer rounds. During the fight, the Agent, Kyoko, Inori, Aegiomon, Blitz Greymon and Cres Garurumon appear. Kodai tells them to leave, but Kyoko refuses to listen to him. After Omegamon Zwart DEFEAT evolves into Omegamon Alter-B, it attempts to attack Kyoko, only for Kodai to jump in the way with his shield and get injured. Koyko chastizes him for using the tranquilizer rounds and Kodai explains that he can't bring himself to hurt Digimon knowing that they, like humans, have families. This causes Kyoko to realize he does care about her and allows to two to reconcile. After Parallelmon is defeated, Kodai and Kyoko are sent back to their own timeline.
