Outer Dungeons/List
The following is a list of Outer Dungeons in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
Protect the Giant Digimeat (デジ肉を守れ, Deji niku wo mamore)[edit]
This series of Outer Dungeons requires Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan to defeat 30 Digimon (either by using DigiAttacks on in battle) before any of them can reach the goal and eat the DigiMeat behind it. If even one Digimon slips through, a scene will play and it will cause an instant Game Over. DigiAttacks alone will not trigger a battle; if a certain Digimon cannot be defeated in one hit, they will be stunned by the DigiAttack for a while until they are defeated.
To unlock the message cube, one must clear the minigame without entering a battle even once.
Protect the Giant Digimeat 1[edit]
- Location: Gear Forest Village
- Reward Digimon: Wizarmon
The enemies here are Piyomon, Tuchidarumon, Gaomon, Dorimon and an Aquilamon.
Piyomon and Dorimon will ignore Yuki and move straight to the goal, while Gaomon, Tuchidarumon and Aquilamon will go directly after them.
The Digimon here move relatively slowly and Yuki can simply stay next to the goal and pick them off.
Protect the Giant Digimeat 2[edit]
- Location: Central Town entrance. Requires destroying a pile of rubble in front of it
- Reward Digimon: Dinohumon
The enemies here are Ginryumon, Botamon, Falcomon, Kamemon and a Birdramon.
All of them save for Ginryumon and the Birdramon will ignore Yuki and move straight towards the goal.
It is recommended to save this for later, as Falcomon moves extremely quickly and might slip through and Ginryumon might take multiple hits to defeat and soak up hits intended for faster Digimon. One might want to move towards the goal if Falcomon starts spawning.
Protect the Giant Digimeat 3[edit]
- Location: Dark Castle
- Reward Digimon: Orochimon
The enemies here are Fantomon, Dobermon, Bakemon, Dracmon and a Skull Mammon.
Everything with the exception of Bakemon will move directly towards Yuki. Bakemon will ignore them and fly high up and move slowly, then move quickly when they are close to the goal. Both Fantomon and Bakemon are impossible to hit until they are close to landing or if Dan/Kanan is on top of the bridge. It is recommended to save this for later until all foes can be defeated in a single DigiAttack (requires Ultimates at around level 50 to 60 or higher).
You might either stay in front of the goal and attack everything that gets near either you or the Digimeat, or move to the bridge and keep moving to draw out all of the Digimon that will directly move towards you while you kill the Bakemon and Fantomon above and only deal with everything else after all Bakemon and Fantomon spawns are exhausted. Defeat all Bakemon as fast as possible.
Protect the Giant Digimeat 4[edit]
- Location: Chill Cosmic, behind the throne in the throne room. Dianamon must be defeated before this dungeon can be unlocked.
- Reward Digimon: Crossmon
The enemies here are Wingdramon, Yukidarumon, Panjyamon, Ice Devimon and a Vikemon.
It is strongly recommended to save this for later until all foes can be defeated in a single DigiAttack (requires Ultimates at around level 50 to 60 or higher).
Wingdramon and Yukidarumon will ignore Yuki and are virtually unstoppable if they ever go past the starting line, while Ice Devimon, Panjyamon and Vikemon will directly attack Yuki. Wingdramon also cannot be attacked until they are about to take flight.
To clear this, simply stay next to the starting line and take out everything that shows up. Prioritize defeating Wingdramon and Yukidarumon first.
Speed is Victory (スピードで打ち勝て, Supeedo de Uchi Kate)[edit]
This series of Outer Dungeons requires Dan/Kanan to ride a Peckmon and reach the goal before an 8-bit Digimon icon does. Each entry requires a Vade-Pass that can be purchased from a Vademon for 5,000 yen. There are certain obstacle Digimon and crates that will slow the Peckmon down. Crates might contain valuable items or materials if broken. As the Peckmon moves slowly, Digimeat can be picked up by the Peckmon to accelerate progress.
If the 8-bit Digimon reaches the goal before the Peckmon does, the game is over. This does not consume the Vade-Pass.
The opposing Digimon's speed is directly tied to the game's framerate (can be adjusted in its settings), so setting the game to 30fps will make the minigame easier. Note that this is only possible in the Steam version as the PS5/Xbox versions are all locked to 30fps. The Peckmon also has larger hitboxes than its model suggests.
Unlike the other minigames, the options menu is disabled and the player cannot retry midway.
Formerly, to unlock the message cube, one must clear the minigame without hitting an obstacle or or enemy Digimon even once. This is now patched to clearing the minigame without hitting an obstacle or enemy Digimon 3 or more times. The same patch that increased the leeway for error also made the 8-bit Digimon slower.
Speed is Victory 1[edit]
- Location: Factorial Area, Dungeon area
- Reward/Opposing Digimon: Lalamon
The obstacle Digimon are Mamemon. They will actively pursue the Peckmon.
Lalamon is the slowest of the four.
Speed is Victory 2[edit]
- Location: Factorial Area, Locomon Station (Behind a stack of breakable barrels)
- Reward/Opposing Digimon: Witchmon
The obstacle Digimon are Guardromon. They will actively pursue the Peckmon.
Witchmon is faster than Lalamon, but should not pose any issues even at 60fps.
Speed is Victory 3[edit]
- Location: Abyss Beach, present day, atop a platform. Digiattack must be used on a pile of rubble to access it.
- Reward/Opposing Digimon: Wingdramon
The obstacle Digimon are Junkmon. Unlike Mamemon and Guardromon, Junkmon is completely stationary, but if the Peckmon hits one, it will slow down drastically.
Wingdramon is much faster than Witchmon and the Peckmon tends to collide towards the Junkmon. It is strongly recommended to adjust the graphics settings to 30fps before challenging especially for players with lower dexterity.
Speed is Victory 4[edit]
- Location: Factorial Area, High-Rise Colosseum
- Reward/Opposing Digimon: Magna Garurumon
The obstacle Digimon are Pukumon and Big Mamemon. Pukumon will move sideways or bounce and Big Mamemon will actively pursue the Peckmon.
Magna Garurumon moves extremely quickly; even with multiple DigiMeat boosts, the Peckmon will likely be unable to outspeed it. It is strongly recommended to adjust the graphics settings to 30fps before challenging especially for players with lower dexterity.
Defeat the boss within the time limit (制限時間内にボスを倒せ Seigen jikan naka ni Bosu wo tao se)[edit]
This series of Outer Dungeons requires Dan/Kanan to reach the end and defeat the boss in 3 minutes (180 seconds). The timer pauses while in the middle of a battle. If they fail to reach the end in time or were wiped in combat, it will instantly cause a Game Over.
There are wild Digimon in the dungeon and treasure chests containing various goods (can only be picked up once).
All of the Digimon have higher stats than usual ones.
To unlock the message cube, one must defeat at least 10 Digimon with only DigiAttacks.
Defeat the boss within the time limit 1[edit]
- Location: In a clearing/dead end in the middle of A Certain Back Alley, Akihabara
- Reward/Boss Digimon: Reppamon
The enemies here are Dodomon, Musyamon, Renamon, Ryudamon and Ginryumon.
This should be beatable upon unlocking, provided Yuki has three Adults of level 20 or higher that counter the boss. A coherent strategy is still needed.
Reppamon is the first enemy in the game that can use the move "Triple Actions", which allows it to move three times in a turn.
Defeat the boss within the time limit 2[edit]
- Location: Abyss Beach, 8 years ago, in a clearing
- Reward/Boss Digimon: Ikkakumon
The enemies here are Coelamon, Gomamon, Pukamon, Seadramon and Shellmon.
This should be beatable provided Yuki has 3 or more level 25 or higher Perfects that counter the boss.
Bring Confusion prevention equipment as Coelamon can cast Panic Wisp and potentially instantly kill the confused Digimon with Variable Darts.
Defeat the boss within the time limit 3[edit]
- Location: Shinjuku, Central Shopping District, behind a pile of trash bags next to the right side of the Misono Residence. Use DigiAttack to reveal the Outer Dungeon.
- Reward/Boss Digimon: Metal Tyranomon
While the player can unlock this Outer Dungeon before they enter the Digital World, it is strongly not recommended to challenge it until much later on as all of the foes are around level 50. Ultimate levels of around level 50 to 60 or higher are strongly recommended.
The enemies present are Tyranomon, Agumon, Dracomon and Birdramon.
Defeat the boss within the time limit 4[edit]
- Location: Gear Forest Village, Shaded Woods
- Reward/Boss Digimon: Tyrant Kabuterimon
The enemies here are Kabuterimon, Okuwamon, Atlur Kabuterimon (Red) and Kuwagamon.
All of the enemies are around level 60 to 70, so the player is not likely to beat this as soon as it is unlocked. It is recommended to save this until they have Ultimates at level 70 or higher.
The enemies are all Vaccine and Virus type and the boss is Virus-type, so one might consider bringing three Vaccine types for combat purpose and 3 data-types on the back for speed-killing Kabuterimon and Atlur Kabuterimon. The boss Tyrant Kabuterimon is weak to Water and Ice attacks.
Survive to the End (最後まで生き残れ Saigo made ikinokore)[edit]
This series of Outer Dungeons requires Dan/Kanan to survive a certain amount of time. They start in the middle of a square area, with eight Digimon spawn points all around them. If the party is wiped out, the game is over.
The last Digimon to spawn is a boss enemy that is much bigger than usual with increased stats. If that enemy is beaten, the mission ends even if there was time remaining.
Unlike the Defeat the Boss within the time limit dungeons, the timer appears to decrease even during a battle, so it is possible for the timer to run out before the boss appears.
To unlock the message cube, the player must never be hit with a preemptive strike.
Survive to the End 1[edit]
- Location: In a dead end in A Certain Back Alley, Shinjuku
- Boss Digimon: Platinum Scumon
- Reward Digimon: Raremon
The spawned Digimon increase in difficulty as the timer goes down. They go: Bubbmon, Numemon, Geremon, Scumon, before a single giant Platinum Scumon appears. While the basic Digimon should be beatable with a team of Adult-level Digimon in their 20s, Platinum Scumon is much more difficult and may require a team of Perfects around their 30s to 40s instead. As every Digimon is either None or Virus, a team of Vaccine Digimon is best.
Survive to the End 2[edit]
- Location: In the northmost end of Marunoka Subway Station, Shinjuku
- Boss Digimon: Metal Greymon
- Reward Digimon: Nanimon
The spawned Digimon increase in difficulty as the timer goes down. They go: Botamon, Greymon and Geo Greymon before a single giant Metal Greymon appears. These set of Digimon are largely of the same difficulty as the previous ones. As all of the Digimon are either None or Vaccine, a team of Data types with Water attacks is best.
Survive to the End 3[edit]
- Location: Abyss Area, present day, in the southeastern most dead end
- Boss Digimon: Sharkmon
- Reward Digimon: Whamon
The spawned Digimon are Shellmon, Ganimon, Waru Seadramon and Gekomon before a single giant Sharkmon appears.
Beware of Waru Seadramon as it will go off the arena's outside and suddenly move towards Dan/Kanan at alarmingly high speeds if they continuously stay in the same spot.
A team of Perfects at their 30s to 40s should be able to handle this.
Survive to the End 4[edit]
- Location: Heat Cosmic, Yellowflame Area, behind a pile of rocks
- Boss Digimon: Megidramon
- Reward Digimon: Hououmon
The Digimon are Solarmon, Meramon, Firamon and Flaremon. A single giant Megidramon will appear at the end.
A team of Ultimate levels at around 50 to 60 should be enough. Use 2 Vaccine-types and a Data-type for combat purposes and backload with a Virus, Data and Vaccine type. They should ideally have Water or Ice moves.
Due to the higher stats of the Digimon here, some of the Digimon (especially Flaremon) likely cannot be taken out in one DigiAttack, so it is possible to win this without encountering the boss.
Fight the Strongest Digimon (最強のデジモンと戦え Saikou no Dejimon to tatakae)[edit]
This series of Outer Dungeons are the most straightforward; it simply requires Dan/Kanan to fight three extremely powerful Digimon.
The Digimon are placed in branching paths sorting them from the weakest to the strongest.
All of the Digimon have abnormally high stats and/or multiple actions, although most of them are still beatable as soon as the dungeon is unlocked. There is at least one Digimon each section that would be extremely difficult, if not possible to beat during the stage of the game, however.
Unlocking the message cube requires Dan/Kanan to have been collected a specific amount of medals from defeating different species of Digimon.
Fight the Strongest Digimon 1[edit]
- Location: Central Town waterway, behind Dan/Kanan's starting point. Destroy a pile of debris in front of it to access it. The objects will only appear after the player defeats Orgemon, Fugamon and Hyogamon at the bottom of the Spiral Waterway.
- Reward: Bubbmon, at level 50 with 100 Talent
The Digimon that appear are of the following:
| Armadimon | Falcomon | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tuskmon | Drimogemon | Ice Devimon | Revolmon | ||||
| Slash Angemon | Matadormon | Metal Tyranomon | Mamemon | Bubbmon | Nanomon | Big Mamemon | Rapidmon |
This dungeon should be beatable with Adult-levels at their 30s or higher. A proper strategy is still required.
Avoid Slash Angemon or Bubbmon on the first attempt since they are way too powerful.
To unlock the message cube, one must obtain 10 unique Digimon Medals.
Fight the Strongest Digimon 2[edit]
- Location: Gear Forest, Shaded Woods
- Reward: Andromon
The Digimon that appear are of the following:
| Shakomon | Lalamon | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tailmon | Bakemon | Guardromon (Gold) | Raptordramon | ||||
| Shakkoumon | Piemon | Dagomon | Andromon | Pandamon | Ex-Tyranomon | Zudomon | Vademon |
This dungeon should be beatable with Perfect Digimon at their 30s or higher.
To unlock the message cube, one must obtain 20 unique Digimon Medals.
Fight the Strongest Digimon 3[edit]
- Location: Central Town, 2nd floor, behind a large crate that can only be broken with a Metal-type move. One must defeat Orgemon, Fugamon and Hyogamon at the bottom of the Spiral Waterway before they can access this.
- Reward: Catch Mamemon
The Digimon that appear are of the following:
| Plotmon | Tyumon | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tankmon | Ginryumon | Centalmon | Deltamon | ||||
| Catch Mamemon | Mummymon | Wingdramon | Rosemon | Angewomon | Archnemon | Hisyaryumon | Groundramon |
This dungeon should be beatable with Adult-levels at their 30s or higher. A proper strategy is still required.
Avoid Rosemon on the first attempt; it is level 60 and is likely not beatable (even with a team of Perfects at their 50s with type advantage) unless Dan/Kanan has a team of Ultimates at their 60s or higher.
To unlock the message cube, one must obtain 30 unique Digimon Medals.
Fight the Strongest Digimon 4[edit]
- Location: Chill Cosmic, Crescent Moon Area, topmost floor, on the northeastern panel
- Reward: Slayerdramon
The Digimon that appear are of the following:
| Rize Greymon | DORUguremon | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mistymon | Great Gryzmon | Astamon | Taomon | ||||
| Valkyrimon | Mirage Gaogamon: Burst Mode | Armagemon | Slayerdramon | Susanomon | Beelzebumon | Metal Seadramon | Beel Starmon |
Unlike the previous Fight the Strongest Digimon Outer Dungeons, this one is exclusively inhabited by Perfects or Ultimates. There are also two Super Ultimates (Mirage Gaogamon: Burst Mode counts as a regular Ultimate for reward purposes).
A team of Ultimates at their 60s or 70s or higher and a proper strategy is required.
Susanoomon and Mirage Gaogamon: Burst Mode require Ultimates at level 80 or higher, preferably with at least 5000 on each stat. They also have more than 9999 Speed on the Super Ultimate difficulty.
To unlock the message cube, one must obtain 40 unique Digimon Medals.
Ultimate Battles[edit]
After unlocking the ability to time-jump, Mirei Mikagura will introduce four Outer Dungeons, each containing a single extremely powerful Digimon. The Digimon were described as "powerful threats hailing from another dimension". All of the Digimon have no attribute, and thus the player might use nearly any strategy as they please. To complete these, the player simply has to defeat the Digimon in the Outer Dungeon, and they will be kicked back to the Threshold Theater after clearing it.
As the name suggests, all of the Digimon encountered have abnormally inflated stats and sometimes modified attributes. They are also immune to all status conditions.
Unlike the usual Outer Dungeons, these are all standard boss battles, so the player can use items (if not playing in the Super Ultimate difficulty) or switch, and Aegiomon is included in the team proper.
Ultimate Battle: VS Apocalymon[edit]
This Outer Dungeon requires Dan/Kanan to defeat an Apocalymon. It has three actions per turn and has a modified version of Darkness Zone that does 90% of the party's current HP instead of the usual 20%, Void Ray III, Power Energy III, Panic Wisp, and Texture Blow. It will always open by using Darkness-Zone multiple times. Some turns later, Apocalymon will follow up Darkness Zone with other lethal attacks, ensuring most of the party's Digimon will be killed quickly. Apocalymon is extremely weak to Null and Light, and resists Dark and Steel.
Marsmon is strongly recommended here if the player has one, as Apocalymon is outright incapable of killing it with its attacking moves.
Ultimate Battle: VS Agumon -Yuki no Kizuna-[edit]
This Outer Dungeon requires Dan/Kanan to defeat an Agumon -Yuki no Kizuna-. It has two actions per turn and has the moves Critical Charge, Red Reamer, Gaia Brave, Wolkenapalm III and Lunatic Gate III. It is weak to Water and Electric, extremely weak to Ice, resists Earth and blocks Fire. It always spends its first two actions using Critical Charge.
Ultimate Battle: VS Gabumon -Yujo no Kizuna-[edit]
This Outer Dungeon requires Dan/Kanan to defeat a Gabumon -Yujo no Kizuna-. It has two actions per turn and has the moves Tidal Stream III, Raddle Star, Cool Edge, Icicle Edge III, Burst Flame III and Diamond Dust III. It is weak to Plant and Electricity, extremely weak to Wind, blocks Ice and resists Steel. In Super Ultimate, its speed exceeds 9999, so it will always move first.
Ultimate Battle: VS Imperialdramon DM[edit]
This Outer Dungeon requires Dan/Kanan to defeat an Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode. It has two actions per turn and has the moves Wolkenapalm III, Power Energy III, Ripping Net, Positron Laser and Mega Death. Unlike the other three bosses, Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode is also completely immune to debuffs. It is weak to Water, Ice, Electricity and Wind and resists Fire, Earth, Steel and Null.
