Despite being a Demon Lord Digimon, it differs from other Fallen Angel and Devil Digimon in that it does not dedicate itself to performing evil deeds, but instead it simply maintains a neutral position as a silent observer. However, it is a terrifying Digimon, and it is told that when the impending final battle arrives, its whitened appearance will change to jet-black darkness, and it will transform into a god of destruction. Its Special Moves are an arrow of death fired from the evil eyes on its hands (Death Arrow), and a destructive beam fired when the eye in its head shines deep crimson (Explosion Eye). Deathmon was adopted from a winning Digimon entry in the "Digimon Web Dot-art Contest" which belonged to Mr. Ino Takahiro from Yamagata prefecture. Digimon Adventure:

Deathmon first appeared briefly in "Holy Digimon" during the ancient war footage where the Holy Digimon fought against the Dark Digimon. Due to the lighting in it, it's unclear if this Deathmon was grey or black.

Deathmon appeared in the present in "The Angels' Determination". It was formed by the fusion of the swarm of Soundbirdmon that attacked the Tree of Knowledge. While originally grey, it quickly turned into Deathmon (Black), before opening its eye. Tailmon knew it as the one who lead the Dark Digimon, the king of darkness, with Wisemon adding that the records said that the war of light and darkness started when Deathmon attacked, and that it was a mystery why Deathmon wanted to destroy darkness despite belonging in it, but it made sense if Deathmon was an omen of the Great Catastrophe, the face of the disaster that drives the world mad.

Manga

Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01

Saiba Neo fought Yagami Taichi and Zeromaru with a Deathmon that he formed from a Megadramon (who was formed from a Cockatrimon and a Kuwagamon) and a Jyureimon in a fight for the V-Tag of Sky (in the manga this evolution is called Triple-Jogress, since one partner is already a Digimon created by a Fusion Evolution).

While Zero was able to hold himself well against the Megadramon, the powerful Deathmon was too much for Zero and he was nearly defeated. When Taichi fell of the cliff, Zero jumped to rescue him and in this process Zero evolved to Aero V-dramon. In his new form he not only was stronger but could also fly and thus was able to destroy Deathmon by cutting him into pieces with his V-Wing Arrow attack.

In "Frontier Generation", Metamormon became a Deathmon to fight Kanbara Takuya who became Agnimon.
