Anime[edit]
Digimon Frontier[edit]
Zanbamon forms an attack group leading with Ultimate Griffomon, Gran Kuwagamon, an Armor Pteranomon and some Adult Airdramon to battle against the two Royal Knights who served Lucemon. They were unsuccessful, and most (including Zanbamon) were easily beaten and scanned.
Digimon Adventure:[edit]
In the past, Zanbamon's army, which consisted of Musyamon, fought against Cres Garurumon's army. Cres Garurumon won, however, Zanbamon's blade never went away and continued to exist in the shape of a curse. Cres Garurumon then used his own soul, his "Kijū Engetsutou", to seal said blade and calm the curse. However, it was unable to contain Zanbamon's curse forever, and it unleashed itself some time later, destroying several villages, starting from Strabimon's as it was sealed inside said village. As a curse, it had no physical body and could not be hurt by any attacks, but it was still able to attack others. However, it now could not exist in daylight, and would only appear at night.
Due to Zanbamon's destruction of their villages, several Digimon banded together under Mojyamon, creating a new village that would send Digimon at night to distract Zanbamon, so it would not find them as they hid in a cave. However, Zanbamon was able to kill said Digimon, with him doing so to Gryzmon and Hanumon, and nearly doing so to Strabimon, when Ishida Yamato and Gabumon first found it in "The Gold Wolf of the Crescent Moon". Gabumon, as Garurumon, saved Strabimon, then tried to attack Zanbamon with Fox Fire, only for it to go straight through the Ultimate Digimon's body. It disappeared afterwards, as day arrived, much to Yamato and Garurumon's confusion.
During the next night, Yamato and Gabumon took over the role of distraction, with the latter fighting Zanbamon as Were Garurumon: Sagittarius Mode, though he was still unable to harm Zanbamon. Yagami Taichi and Metal Greymon arrived soon afterwards and joined the fight, though they were just as useless, even after both Digimon evolved into their own Ultimate levels, Metal Garurumon and War Greymon. Nonetheless, they were able to survive the night.
In order to defeat Zanbamon, Yamato and Gabumon followed Strabimon back to his village, where they found the "Kijū Engetsutou". However, due to Zanbamon breaking out of it, it was in a broken, withered, beaten up state, which Strabimon believed made it useless. Nonetheless, Garurumon took it with him, as his dreams called him to it. During the night, Metal Greymon stalled Zanbamon, before Yamato and Were Garurumon: Sagittarius Mode arrived. The latter tried to fight Zanbamon with his newly-found weapon, only for it to break in their clash. Were Garurumon: Sagittarius Mode refused to give up on it, grabbing the piece of the blade that had broken with his bare hand and blocking Zanbamon's own giant sword with it, while Yamato unearthed the rest of the blade and used it as well despite being significantly bigger than himself. This caused the sword to regain its original form, which filled Were Garurumon: Sagittarius Mode's body with energy, allowing him to Ultimate Evolve into Cres Garurumon. In that form, he was able to easily kill Zanbamon, and this time its sword disintegrated with it.
Manga[edit]
Digimon Next[edit]
Zanbamon is one of the Three Commanders of the Commandments working for Barbamon.
He first faces Tatsuno Tsurugi and Agumon as they try to enter Light City, having predicted their plan to do so. Zanbamon proceeds to let the rest go, as he can beat Agumon in five seconds, later revised to three when he evolves into Geo Greymon, giving him plenty of time to catch up, and he backs up that claim by defeating Geo Greymon in one Jumonji Giri, which he only manages to survive thanks to being an Illegal and not without harm, as he's returned to Koromon.[19]
After Tsurugi and Agumon, now Rize Greymon, reach System Base, Zanbamon faces them. During the fight, he reveals that he reached the Ultimate level by killing 99 dragon Digimon with his Ryūzan-maru and wants to make Rize Greymon his 100th kill. Acknowledging the power born from Tsurugi and Rize Greymon's bond, he destroys Tsurugi's Digivice iC in order to cut said bond[9].
During the fight against N.E.O, Zanbamon joins Tsurugi's side alongside the rest of the Commandments, pointing out that he was never brainwashed but refuses to accept a future without the warrior's code[20].
