In late 1999 and early 2000, Bandai held a monthly series of Original Digimon Illustration Contests 「オリジナルデジモンイラストコンテスト」[N 1] through its Bandai-Town Fax Service (BTFS). The contests tasked fans with drawing their own ideas for new Digimon, and accepted illustration submissions via fax.
Some, but not all, winning entries into the Original Digimon Illustration Contests were adopted by Bandai as official Digimon.
