The Sapotama (サポタマ, Sapotama) is a central device in Digimon Beatbreak.
Etymology[edit]
Sapotama comes from a pun on "Sapōto" (サポート lit. "Support") and "Tama" (卵 lit. "Egg").
Functions[edit]
- Everyday uses which range from alarm clocks, health monitors, smart phones, interacting with IOT appliances, banking, etc.[1]
- Give birth to a Digimon after being affected by a certain kind of e-Pulse.[1]
- Power up Digimon through e-Pulse.[1]
- Evolve Digimon through a higher amount of e-Pulse, either recharged on the moment[1] or saved[2]. Evolution into the Perfect or Ultimate level requires a tremendous amount of e-Pulse[3] which can be obtained from multiple sources at once.[4]
- e-Pulse born from negative emotions can cause a Digimon to run wild.[2] Said e-Pulse can still cause an evolution, although an uncontrollable one.[5]
- Detect fluctuations in the user's e-Pulse.[6]
- After an update, whenever a Sapotama detects the possibility of a Digimon being born or any dissent against Chairman Wong, Albatusmon will absorb the Sapotama's Owner's e-Pulse through their implant tag, causing Cold Heart remotely. Said e-Pulse is then sent to Albatusmon. This triggers automatically, effectively allowing Wong to take control of everyone in a virtual dictatorship, which he dubs the Shangri-La Project. As seen in the case of Shinomiya Hitomi, instead of draining their e-pulse immediately, the Sapotama might also warn the user first upon detecting any perceived dissent. It does not affect anyone with already manifested Digimon or any pre-existing Digimon[6]. This was undone when Kanada Genjo orders Tenma Asuka to release Albatusmon from Wong's control and Seiten Gokuwmon destroys Apraxas, which also renders all Sapotamas unable to function.[7]

The human who owns the Sapotama that a Digimon is born out of is referred to as an Owner (サポ主 Saponushi, lit. "Sapo-Master/Owner", officially translated as "Owner"[8]).

Digimon Beatbreak[edit]
It is an egg shaped device powered by support Artificial Intelligence that plays a major role in the lives of people by using e-Pulse, a collection of human thought and emotional energy. Nearly everyone has to be linked to a Sapotama from birth, using a chip implanted on one's arm. Despite this, some people are unable to use Sapotama, requiring special aides such as specific ID cards to be made for them.[10]
The Sapotama is a device invented by Dr. Tenma Tasuku some time around the Kano Island Incident. According to himself, the device is actually dangerous and is not meant for commercial use. [11] However, the World Union forcibly pushed its commercial usage anyways and hunted down the Tenma family when Dr. Tenma and his son or daughter protested his actions. [12]
Currently, the World Union manufactures and manages Sapotama.[13] All Sapotama are connected at all times to Apraxas, the host server of Mirror World, but those that have given birth to Digimon lose their connection to Apraxas.[6]
The main body of the Sapotama takes on the form of a white egg with an interactive surface. When low on energy, Sapotama darken to black, and when in sleep mode, they display the words "Sleep Mode" on a sheep-and-pillow themed background. When they are charged to be used with a Digimon, they glow various colours depending on the user.
When charged with a certain kind of e-Pulse, a Sapotama can give birth to a Digimon. This seems to be triggered by a moment of heightened emotions[1] and can't be done at will.[14] Despite its similarities to a Digitama and the egg imagery used for it, Digimon do not hatch from Sapotama, and instead are born from them while glowing as if the Sapotama evolved into the Digimon. The Sapotama is not lost afterwards, rather, it's kept inside the Digimon, from where it stores its e-Pulse and passively drains it from its Owner.[1] The Digimon that the Sapotama gave birth to is usually a Child-level, but in extremely rare cases, a Digimon might be created in an advanced evolution phase and remains as such.[11][12] Despite the World Union deems the Digimon as glitches to further encourage commercial usage of Sapotama, it is heavily implied that Digimon creation is actually normal behavior from the Sapotama itself.
When a Digimon is born, the Owner's e-Pulse forms its body, while the Sapotama's AI forms its personality, including its brain and intellect. After the AI is extracted, the Sapotama is left with only its basic functions.[15] Said Digimon can then release the Sapotama and reabsorb it at will (by spitting and eating it, respectively) and can do so with other Sapotama as well. This allows an Owner to directly charge their e-Pulse into the Sapotama as well as take advantage of its other capabilities, although the Digimon itself can use said capabilities as it is directly connected to the Sapotama's AI. A Digimon can hold several Sapotama inside its body and absorb e-Pulse from all of them.[2] Presumably, a Sapotama can only give birth to a single Digimon, but an Owner can give birth to many Digimon by using more Sapotama.[14] If a Sapotama within a Digimon is destroyed, that Digimon is killed instantly[16], making it also the equivalent to a Digimon's Digicore. Glowing Dawn avoids killing the Digimon by defeating them until they revert to their Baby I forms rather than targeting the Sapotama within the Digimon.
For unknown reasons, Gokuwmon, Sagomon and Cho Hakkaimon seemingly lack a Sapotama, even after being defeated and reverted to their Baby I forms[9].
Due to the connection with Digimon, they behave as the Digivice of the series. Furthermore, as Digimon are born from them, they also serve as its equivalent to Digitama.
In "Bug", Chairman Wong announced live that he will begin the Shangri-La Project, of which he will use Albatusmon's power to Cold Heart anyone who could potentially create a Digimon or even so dares oppose him, effectively granting him complete dictatorship over the entire world. However, Owners are unaffected, so Wong orders Rose Woodville to kill all other Cleaners. Much to his inconvenience, Rose instead defected with Kutsuna Kaito and Sakai Honoka agreeing with her to follow-suit off-screen. This was thwarted when Kanada Genjo orders Tenma Asuka to break Wong's hold on Albatusmon.
Following Genjo's betrayal against Chairman Wong, Apraxas is destroyed, and with it all Sapotamas cease to function. Functionalities were restored after Albatusmon is neutralized in "Dual Beats". Then in "A World of Light", while fighting Seiten Gokuwmon, Atratusmon used it to issue a worldwide broadcast, and his e-Pulse caused all Sapotamas that did not give birth to a Digimon to create one, and resurrect the ones that have fallen. Some time after the final battle, Digimon continue to be spawned from Sapotamas, although they are no longer considered glitches and are thus no longer marked instantly for extermination.
