Saponushi[edit]
So I just now noticed that editors have been following the subs and calling Saponushi "Owners." Since that's not what the term means, we obviously need to pick another. Should we just go with the Japanese, like we do with Digitama, Kenzoku, etc.? We could go with an English translation like Sapo-Master, but that would technically be making up a term. --TMS (talk) 18:00, 16 February 2026 (EST)
- Since it is the term in the official subs and already widely used, would something like this work to make clear the original JP term? Owner isn't necessarily a wrong translation for 主:

digress but my views are similar on Five Stars vs Five Planets, that I could interpret as a choice of words rather than outright 'wrong' translation, in which case my personal preference is to use the official term on the wiki (also for user experience as it is already the term fans widely recognise/use). - I was hoping other people's opinions would have come in by now, but I guess no one else feels strongly about it... I understand it's a gray area, but your suggestion is at bare minimum what we should do. The official subs are sort of like a midpoint between the Japanese version (which Wikimon's focus is on) and a full localization. Saying only that the term is "Owner" is incorrect, though as in other cases the "official English term" should still be noted. - I went ahead and added the above in while the use outside the article is under discussion. :) And while I have a different opinion from yours I fully understand where you're coming from, personally I still prefer the stance of "stick to official term but clarify the JP etymology" as long as the translated term can be interpreted as an intentional choice and not a mistake, but I agree that it's a grey area esp considering JP side is now adopting some legacy localisations like Digivolve and Rookie/Champion etc (but I do feel current Digimon is in a different era of localisation from back then). Ultimately I feel it's which direction the wiki admins want to go, which I also think there is generally some consistency issue rn e.g. using official Gerbemon over Garbamon, but also using Hackmon over official Huckmon. --Garmmon (talk) 22:17, 18 February 2026 (CST)
