Minoru was the owner of the old Nirinsou site at Mount Aihoshi. He adopted Karina after the Kano Island Incident and saved Sawashiro Kyo when he was injured in a mission and ended up in a riverbed next to them, and nursed him back to full health. He was not only a good caretaker, but also a skilled cook who taught Kyo how to do so. Initially Kyo was indifferent towards them, but eventually, he shared a familial bond with them and treated them as if they were his family. When Karina asked him to stay as long as he wished to, he did.
Kyo lived with them for around a year before tragedy struck when Kuroshio Souji went to the old Nirinsou site to find Kyo, who was reported by the World Union to be missing. Souji murdered all of its inhabitants bar Kyo and while Kyo rushed towards the commotion, he only say Luxmon and Karina's half-dying bodies lying in the water, both of which passed away afterwards. Upon discovering Souji, Kyo brutally killed his Piranhimon and tried to kill him by pushing him off a waterfall. Souji survived this incident and was arrested after another murder case.
Heartbroken, Kyo vowed that he will not delete a single Digimon again and left the Five Stars, announcing his leave in front of Kutsuna Kaito when he was sent to investigate Tenma Asuka for an e-Pulse draining incident. He then went to form his own Nirinso Shelter with help from several other organizations to inherit Minoru and Karina's lost dream.
