Ancient Digital World
The Ancient Digital World (古代デジタルワールド, Kodai Dejitaru Wārudo) refers to a particular time frame of the Digital World, the ancient past as the name implies. Details of the Ancient Digital World era are a mystery, although it was a time of prophecy, of the Ancient Species Digimon, and various groups of Digimon including the Four Holy Beasts and Warrior Ten.
While Digimon like Imperialdramon: Paladin Mode have been said to have saved the Ancient Digital World from destruction[1], it's also known that the Ancient Digital World did ultimately face a collapse and there are very few records remaining of this time in the present day.[2][3][4]
Overview[edit]
There are no known locations of the Ancient Digital World. Pharaohmon ruled a number of regions of the Ancient Digital World, and the evidence of this is the ruins that currently dot the Digital World of the present.[5] Ukkomon is a mythical Ancient Species Digimon whose activity records remain in the Ancient Digital World. Rumor has it that Ukkomon can grant the wishes of others, and it is said that because of this, many Digimon gathered around Ukkomon and flourished, forming villages. However, records of Ukkomon's activities were lost with the destruction of the Ancient Digital World, meaning no records of these villages exist.[3]
However, Folder Continent seems to be heavily related to the Ancient Digital World. As detailed in the Folder Continent Report, a number of the Folder Continent inhabitants have remnant Warrior Ten data. Certain Fields were associated with different Warrior Ten members, for example the "Nightmare Soldiers" (NSo) have the data of Ancient Sphinxmon. Also mentioned in the Folder Continent Report is that the Four Holy Beasts were reacting to this emergence of Ancient Species data and the findings were no coincidence. V-dramon is another Ancient Species, one that can only be found on Folder Continent.[6]
Big Ukkomon is another Ultimate and Ancient Species Digimon that existed during the time of the Ancient Digital World. It is thought to have appeared the moment the Ancient Digital World was destroyed. It is said that it sacrificed its own life to summon a Digitama from the sorrow of the Digimon that disappeared one after another as a result of the destruction. However, there are no records of whether this act had been accomplished or not.[4]
Associated Digimon[edit]
The legendary Warrior Ten were ten Digimon of the Ultimate level that existed in the Ancient Digital World. The group saved the Ancient Digital World from Lucemon, a powerful Digimon who rebelled against "God". All the Warrior Ten passed on their data to Digimon of the present, i.e. Ancient Greymon's abilities were later passed on to the "Dragon Digimon", such as the Greymon-species. It is said that in the battle against Lucemon, only Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon survived to the end and sealed away Lucemon.[7]
Ancient Wisemon is a Warrior Ten Digimon who existed only in the distant past, it is the wisest person in the Digital World. Due to the Akashic Records which record all of the excellent intellects of ancient times, it is a sage that possesses the knowledge of the distant past. Ancient Wisemon’s abilities were passed down to Mutation Digimon.[8]
According to one theory, Shakkoumon is an Angel Digimon which descended to the Ancient Digital World.[9] Another Angel Digimon, Lucemon, is said to have also descended to the Ancient Digital World. It manifested in an era in which the Digital World was still chaotic, and it is said that it brought about order and harmony. However, a long period of darkness was summoned due to Lucemon's later "Rebellion". Lucemon was sealed in the Dark Area alongside a number of Demon Lord Digimon, where it is now Lucemon: Falldown Mode of the Seven Great Demon Lords. It is said that Lucemon's abilities have now been inherited and split among the Three Archangels.[10][11]
Grand Dracumon is a Demon Beast Digimon that is considered the king of vampire Digimon. It has kept a castle in the Dark Area since ancient times. It has a gentlemanly demeanor, and there have been anecdotes that it has led many of the Angel Digimon who have come to subdue it into falling down. It is said that it is connected to the details of how the Dark Area came to be within the Digital World and that it knows the truth of the mysterious evolution, "Death-X", however questioning it about these mysteries would be extremely difficult.[12] Sangloupmon is a considerably old species of bloodsucking wolf Digimon, and another Demon Beast. It is said to have survived since the Genesis of the Digital World.[13]
The Four Holy Beasts are godlike Digimon who protect the East, West, South, and North of the Digital World. Supervising these Digimon is an emperor Digimon, Huanglongmon who is enshrined in the center and rules the "world". During the age of the Ancient Digital World, Lucemon descended and began a "rebellion". Due to Lucemon's actions, Huanglongmon was sealed in the deepest, darkest place within the earth. The Four Holy Beasts lost their rule because of this, causing a struggle for hegemony, but an equilibrium is maintained at present.[14]
Armor Digimon originated in ancient times with the development of the pseudo-evolutionary[15] process of Armor Evolution. In order to compensate for limited evolution options and limited likelihood of ever evolving, Ancient Species Digimon developed the technology of Digimentals which compatible Digimon could use to Armor Evolve. However, the technology is now lost.[16] Digimon descended from Ancient Species like V-mon, Wormmon, Hawkmon, Armadimon, and Patamon can all undergo Armor Evolution.[15][17][18][19][20]
Baromon is an Armor Digimon that evolved through the power of the "Digimental of Courage". Baromon is a survivor of the old generation of Digimon, and has several abilities of a lost technology not found in current Digimon. The third eye on its brow is one of them, and it is said that this eye allows it to see into the future, and it is told that it was able to survive even during the collapse of the Ancient Digital World.[2]
Babydmon is related to a long-lost, ancient species of Digimon. Dracomon is an ancient, pure-blooded Dragon Digimon that is said to be the "Progenitor" of all Dramon-type Digimon. Coredramon (Blue) and Coredramon (Green) are both evolutions of Dracomon and are pure-blooded Dragon Digimon.[21][22][23][24] While Dracomon is the "Progenitor", the abilities of Ancient Greymon have also been passed down to the Dragon Digimon of the present, as well.[7]
Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode is an Ancient Dragon Digimon of the Ultimate level that lived in the Ancient Digital World. Due to the its immense power, controlling it is next to impossible, and depending on how it is raised, it may become a savior or a god of destruction as Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode (Black).[25][26][27]
V-dramon is a mythical Ancient Species Digimon. Among the rare species of V-dramon, it is said that only veteran warriors that have come through numerous battles are able to evolve to Aero V-dramon and move through the sky. Like V-dramon, XV-mon is a Mythical Dragon Digimon and is said to be a purebreed V-dramon.[6][28][29]
Orochimon is a Demon Dragon Digimon. The roots of Orochimon’s creation are old, and although it was a being such that it raged in all its fury in the Ancient Digital World, and drove some areas to devastation, it was sealed by the servant of a "being" which sought to preserve the harmony of the Digital World.[30][N 1]
Imperialdramon: Paladin Mode is the strongest form of Imperialdramon and was told of since ancient times. It is a legendary Holy Knight that saved the Ancient Digital World from a great calamity. All details of that time are shrouded in mystery.[1] Imperialdramon: Paladin Mode is also noted to be the founder of the Royal Knights due to these actions.[31][32][33]
Ulforce V-dramon is a Digimon related to the Ancient Species V-dramon and is a Holy Knight Digimon based on a legend that only appears within a certain "Prophecy", handed down from the Ancient Digital World. In that "Prophecy", it is written that the "Royal Knights", the guardian deities of the Network, will assemble at the time of the Digital World's greatest crisis.[34]

Although the Ancient Digital World is not directly depicted, it is alluded to through the Ancient Species descendants acting as Partner Digimon to the Chosen Children. These Digimon perform Armor Evolution using the Digimentals.
Digimon Frontier[edit]
Digimon Frontier depicts the battle between the Warrior Ten and Lucemon in the far past. Lucemon descends to the Digital World to stop the constant battles between Human and Beast Digimon. Ultimately, as Lucemon becomes tyrannical, the Warrior Ten arrive to fight and seal Lucemon away. The Warrior Ten die in the process, and so the Legendary Spirits, each containing half the power of one of the Warrior Ten, are created and split into Human Spirits and Beast Spirits.
Digimon Adventure:[edit]
An ancient war between light and darkness is depicted in Digimon Adventure:. On the side of light were seven "Holy Digimon" of the Ultimate level, including Seraphimon, Ofanimon, and Cherubimon. Joining them were a number of other "legendary" Ultimate Digimon, including War Greymon, Metal Garurumon, Hououmon, Rosemon, Vikemon, Herakle Kabuterimon, and a Gaioumon. Many of these Digimon reincarnated as the Partner Digimon of the Chosen Children. The opposing forces were led by Zeed Millenniumon, who defeated a number of these legendary Digimon. Upon defeat, this War Greymon and Metal Garurumon fused into Omegamon, a Holy Knight Digimon, who swiftly defeated Zeed Millenniumon. Ancient ruins of the past of the Digital World, from before this conflict, remain.
Digimon Ghost Game[edit]
In "Pyramid", Ancient Sphinxmon was a denizen of the Ancient Digital World and a servant of its king, Pharaohmon. As Mummymon recognized Ancient Sphinxmon and Pharaohmon, it's implied Mummymon lived in it as well. Ancient Sphinxmon wanted to bring Pharaohmon back into the Real World and turn it into the Ancient Digital World, which Ancient Sphinxmon considered superior to human civilization.
