Volvemon is a being that was created when the Digital World was an experimental space, prior to being managed by a control system. Within this experimental space, which was created to observe digital lifeforms, livable environments were simulated based on the parameters inputted by observers, but they were unable to induce any changes to life designed to be primordial lifeforms—equivalent to what is now known as Baby I. That was when they introduced an environmental AI—which would later be called Volvemon—to "cycle the world". Volvemon would use the ring on its back to convert the environment of the entire world into data and "absorb" it, "compress" it using the generator on its chest, and then "emanate" it from the front of its chest, making the whole world "go round". It kept every conceivable cycle of the world going, which includes day and night, variations in atmospheric temperature and pressure, fluctuations in tidal level, the changing seasons, and the three phase changes of water. In the experimental space following Volvemon's introduction, the diverse environmental cycles stimulated the digital lifeforms even more, and ultimately, they succeeded in achieving the transformation known as "Evolution". The experimental space expanded in line with the evolution of the digital lifeforms, which then transformed into a vast world known as the Digital World.
As there are no records of it fighting, this is conjecture, but while performing the environmental-cycling action known as "Revolutio Rerum", Volvemon absorbs everything in its surroundings and then releases it, so simply getting close to it will cause anyone to get swept up in its revolving maelstrom and be annihilated.
Records show that when management of the Digital World was transferred to the control system, and it became possible for the world to cycle spontaneously, even in Volvemon’s absence, its role ended, and it was sealed away by the system as separate beings with the powers of "Absorption" and "Emanation" respectively.

デジタルワールドが統括システムで管理される以前の実験空間だった頃に生み出された存在、それがヴォルブモンである。電子生命体の観察をするために作り出されたその実験空間では、観察者の入力したパラメータによって生存環境をシミュレートしていたが、現在でいうところの幼年期Ⅰ相当の原初生命体としてデザインされた生命への変化を促すことはできなかった。そこで投入されたのがのちにヴォルブモンと呼称される「世界を循環」させる環境AIである。ヴォルブモンは背中のリングで世界全体の環境をデータ化し「吸収」、胸部のジェネレーターで「圧縮」、胸の前面から「放出」することで世界全体を「廻す」。昼と夜、気温・気圧の変化、潮位の変動、季節の巡り、水の三相変化といった世界のありとあらゆる循環を廻し続ける。ヴォルブモン投入後の実験空間では多様な環境循環により電子生命体への刺激が高まり、ついには「進化」と呼ばれる形態変化を得ることに成功した。実験空間は電子生命体の進化に合わせ空間が拡大していき、のちにデジタルワールドと呼ばれる広大な世界へと変貌を遂げた。
戦闘を行った記録が残されていないため推測となるが、『レヴォルティオレールム』と呼ばれる環境を循環させる行動中のヴォルブモンは周囲のあらゆるものを吸収し放出するため、近づいただけで循環の渦に巻き込まれ消滅するだろう。
統括システムにデジタルワールドの管理が移管され、ヴォルブモンが存在しなくても自発的に世界を循環できるようになるとヴォルブモンは役目を終え、「吸収」と「放出」のそれぞれの能力に分かたれた存在としてシステムに封印されたと記録には残されている。

トモロウのパートナーであるアトラタスモンと、アスカのパートナーであるアルバタスモンが合体した究極体の姿。『レヴォルティオレールム』と呼ばれる環境を循環させる行動中のヴォルブモンは周囲のあらゆるものを吸収し放出するため超大な破壊力を併せ持つ。

Volvemon is a Digimon that was split into two components, Albatusmon and Atratusmon. The primary colours of white and black of Volvemon are reflected in these component Digimon. Other elements present in Volvemon's design come from related Digimon in Digimon Beatbreak, in which Albatusmon is the Ultimate of Helios Boamon and Atratusmon is the same for Gekkomon. The pink hair of Volvemon comes from Gekkomon and Monarchlizamon, while the crescent moon motif can be seen in all three of Gekkomon, Monarchlizamon, and Atratusmon. The gold ring on Volvemon's helmet is based on the gold ring representing the sun that is visible on Helios Boamon. The Circle of Amplification can be seen on its back.
Besides these elements, Volvemon also bears resemblance to other fused Digimon like Omegamon and Susanoomon. For example, the armour on Volvemon's forearms matching the placement of the Kaiser Greymon and Magna Garurumon helmets attached to Susanoomon's arms, which themselves are a reference to the Grey Sword and Garuru Sword arms of Omegamon. In the case of Omegamon, Volvemon's debut in "A World of Shining Light" is paired with its two partners, Tenma Tomoro and Tenma Asuka, standing on its shoulders just as Yagami Taichi and Ishida Yamato stand on Omegamon in Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!. Human and Digimon partners around the globe put their hopes into Volvemon, much like the wishes of humans created the miracle of Omegamon in Our War Game. Furthermore, the Circle of Amplification is placed in a way that it resembles the ring-like ornament on Susanoomon's back.
Its general concepts and design are possible references to some "super robot" anime, most notably Nirvash Spec 3 from Eureka Seven, Stargazer Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73: Stargazer, and Kamen Rider Ex-Aid from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. It might also be derived from the mythological concept of the Cosmic Man, most notably Pangu in Chinese Mythology or Adam Kadmon in Jewish Esotericism.
