"Target~Akai Shougeki~" (ターゲット～赤い衝撃～ Tāgetto ~Akai Shougeki~) is the opening song for Digimon Adventure 02, sung by Wada Kouji and composed by Ōta Michihiko. It is also featured in the soundtrack for Digimon Adventure 02: Vol. 1: Digimon Hurricane Landing!!/Vol. 2: Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals, Digimon Adventure 02: Diablomon Strikes Back, and Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning.
Opening Description[edit]
Version 1[edit]
The first version of the opening lasted from episode 1 to 25.
The opening starts with every Crest symbol, except for the Crest of Kindness, flying into a shining beam of light. The text "02" fly into the screen, and bounces back as a rainbow fades-in the Digimon Adventure 02 logo. The next sequence shows Motomiya Daisuke, Inoue Miyako, Hida Iori, Takaishi Takeru, and Yagami Hikari entering the Digital World, which is depicted in a bleak environment, filled with Dark Towers. Devidramon, carrying the Digimon Kaiser, and a group of Airdramon fly above the towers as Evil Rings scatter throughout the sky. V-mon, Hawkmon, and Armadimon fade in, opening their eyes as the scene transitions to a globe of the Real World and the Digital World, gradually moving apart as evil red eyes fill in the black void.
The next scene shows the original Chosen Children Yagami Taichi, Ishida Yamato, Takenouchi Sora, Tachikawa Mimi, Izumi Koushirou, and Kido Jou standing behind Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, Takeru, and Hikari. After this, the opening shows the animation of the Digital Gate opening, the start of the Armor Evolution sequence where the Digimental goes from the D-Terminal to the D-3, and a shot of V-mon, Hawkmon, Armadimon, Patamon, and Tailmon rising to the sky. A series of images shows the following Digimon in order: Fladramon, Shurimon, Digmon, Pegasmon, Nefertimon, Submarimon, Holsmon, and Lighdramon, with the sequence ending with a shot of Wormmon looking at the viewer.
Fladramon does his Knuckle Fire and Fire Rocket before he morphs into V-mon and then to Lighdramon using his Lightning Blade. Shurimon uses his Momiji Oroshi, briefly transforms back into Hawkmon, then flies out as Holsmon using his Tempest Wing. Digmon breaks out of the ground, fires his Gold Rush, and then turns back into Armadimon before landing in the water as Submarimon. Pegasmon uses his Shooting Star attack, while Nefertimon fires a Rosetta Stone. Daisuke is then seen riding on Lighdramon, later being followed by Miyako on Holsmon, Hikari on Nefertimon, Takeru on Pegasmon, and Iori in Submarimon, who emerges near a body of water.
A portrait of Ken's sad face transitions outwards from the Digimon Kaiser's hair, smirking as his cape creates a dark void and three Dark Towers are shown above him. Fladramon, Shurimon, Digmon, Angemon, and Angewomon all fly outwards to the left, as beams of light shoot out behind them. Finally, the camera pans out to see Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, Takeru, and Hikari running towards the camera as their respective Digimon runs past them. Three more images are shown, first with Flamdramon, Digmon, Shurimon, Angemon, and Angewomon, next with Lighdramon, Holsmon, Submarimon, Pegasmon, and Nefertimon, and finally with everyone's forms and their human partners standing together.
Version 2[edit]
The second version of the opening lasted from episode 26 to the last episode of the series.
In the opening featuring every Crest symbol, the Crest of Kindness has been added to fly alongside the other symbols as well. Instead of the Digimon Kaiser with Devidramon and Airdramon, the scene with the Dark Towers instead showcases various Digimons that were created through the Dark Towers, including more notably Black War Greymon. Ichijouji Ken can now be seen alongside the new Chosen Children during the panorama shot with the Chosen Children. The scene with Wormmon also showcases Stingmon.
The sequence showcasing V-mon, Hawkmon, and Armadimon's evolutions and attacks has changed. Fladramon does his Fire Rocket before he morphs back to V-mon and evolves into XV-mon. Shurimon uses his Momiji Oroshi, briefly transforms back into Hawkmon, then flies out as Aquilamon. Digmon breaks out of the ground, fires his Gold Rush, and then turns back into Armadimon before landing as Ankylomon. Patamon and Tailmon's sequences have not changed.
Instead of the scene showcasing the Digimon Kaiser, Archnemon and Mummymon are shown riding their vehicle as the camera pans over the former's face. The Chosen Children run scene with their Digimon now has Ken running in front of Yagami Hikari, with Wormmon just ahead of him. Finally, the images at the end were replaced. The first image shows Paildramon, Shakkoumon, and Silphymon, the second shows Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode, and finally the image shows everyone's forms and their human partners standing together.
