Like Demon it was originally a high-ranking Angel Digimon, but it fell to the Dark Area and is now one of the Demon Lord Digimon. Even though it is a Demon Lord Digimon, it is different from other Fallen Angel and Devil Digimon in that it does not run the whole gamut of wickedness, but instead does its utmost to carefully maintain a position of neutrality. However, it is a terrifying Digimon, and it is told that at the time of the approaching final battle, that whitened appearance will change to jet-black darkness, and it will transform into a god of destruction. Its Special Moves are an arrow of death fired from the evil eyes on its hands (Death Arrow), and a laser beam fired when the eye in its head shines deep crimson (Explosion Eye).

Deathmon was adopted from a winning Digimon entry in the "Digimon Web Dot-art Contest" which belonged to Mr. Takahiro Ino from Yamagata prefecture.

Deathmon first appeared briefly in "Holy Digimon" during the ancient war footage where the Holy Digimon fought against the Dark Digimon. Due to the lighting in it, it's unclear if this Deathmon was grey or black.

Deathmon appeared in the present in "The Angels' Determination". It was formed by the fusion of the swarm of Soundbirdmon that attacked the Tree of Knowledge. While originally grey, it quickly turned black, before opening its eye. Tailmon knew it as the one who lead the Dark Digimon, the king of darkness. Deathmon then roared, its roar deafening the Chosen Children. It then created a red aura, and sent flames all around it as it shot a beam to the sky, causing massive explosions around the Tree of Knowledge. It then grabbed said tree and shot an Explosion Eye through it, attempting to destroy the Crest monoliths and kill everyone close to them. However, said attack was blocked by War Greymon's Brave Shield, alongside Holy Angemon and Angewomon, the latter two then evolving into their Ultimate forms from the ancient war, Seraphimon and Ofanimon. Deathmon immediately shot them with its Death Arrow, which was completely ineffective. Seraphimon and Deathmon then attacked each other with Seven Heavens and Explosion Eye, respectively, with the former winning their clash and boring into Deathmon's skin. Ofanimon then charged at it, with Deathmon attempting to stop her with another Death Arrow which could not go through her shield, and Ofanimon pierced through Deathmon with her Eden's Javelin, destroying its eye and killing it. As it died, it broke into its component Soundbirdmon, which then disintegrated, though as they did, Deathmon's voice said it was the first cry sent by the catastrophe who would echo across when it finished its cry, and the Great Catastrophe would begin.
