Digimon Adventure[edit]

At some point between the events of "The Chase! Hurry to Japan" and "The Four Rulers of the Demonic Mountain! The Dark Masters!", while the Chosen Children are in the real world fighting Vamdemon, Mugendramon and the other Dark Masters conquer and reformat the Digital World into a shape that makes it easier to rule: Spiral Mountain. He rules Spiral Mountain's urban area and commands the Metal Empire army. According to Gennai in The Holy Swordsman! Holy Angemon", he (like the other Dark Masters) draws his power from the distortions created by the existence of Apocalymon.

When the Chosen Children return to the reformatted Digital World in "The Four Heavenly Kings of the Demonic Mountain! The Dark Masters!", the Dark Masters attack them. Mugendramon is the second to attack, easily overwhelming the Perfect-level partner Digimon with a Mugen Cannon barrage and causing the ground the cave in, sending them to face Pinochimon. The four come together to wipe the Chosen Children out, but are foiled when Piccolomon intervenes to hold the Dark Masters off and send the Chosen Children far out of their reach. The four kill Piccolomon.

In "The Raging King of the Seas! Metal Seadramon", Mugendramon is with the other Dark Masters in their castle at the top of Spiral Mountain, where they are observing the Chosen Children. He, Piemon, and Pinochimon are still there in "Silence at the Bottom of the Ocean, Whamon", witnessing the defeat of Metal Seadramon and the release of the ocean area from Spiral Mountain.

In Bombing Mission! Mugendramon, Mugendramon sends the Metal Empire after Yagami Taichi, Yagami Hikari, Takaishi Takeru, Takenouchi Sora, and Izumi Koushiro when they enter the city in search of medicine for Hikari. He and his Hagurumon track Taichi and Koushirou through the city by tracing Koushirou's internet use, but when Koushiro catches on and tricks the system into thinking he is logging on in hundreds of places in the city at once, Mugendramon orders the execution of "Plan Z" to destroy the entire city and smoke the group out. When Taichi and Koushiro reunite with the others with the medicine, Mugendramon bursts out of the ground and confronts them personally. His Mugen Cannon levels a skyscraper and tears the ground open, sending them falling into the underground sewer system.

In Farewell Numemon, Waru Monzaemon contacts Mugendramon to report that he has fought, and been defeated by, the Chosen Children. For his failure to first report that he knew their location, Mugendramon kills him by detonating his control room, then begins his own pursuit of the group. He tracks down Taichi, Koushiro, and Andromon, who soon reunite with Sora, Takeru, and Hikari. He overpowers all of them and effortlessly slaughters a horde of Numemon that attacks him in an attempt to protect Hikari. Hikari's grief at witnessing this triggers her powers, which restore Agumon's strength and evolve him into War Greymon, who slices Mugendramon into pieces with his Dramon Killers. His defeat causes the collapse of the Spiral Mountain city area and returns the land to its rightful place.

Digimon Adventure tri.[edit]

Mugendramon and the Dark Masters appear in a flashback in the prologue of "Loss", which depicts their initial battle with Himekawa Maki's original group of Chosen Children. The Dark Masters initially easily overwhelm the Perfect-level team, but when Homeostasis triggers most of the team's evolution into the Four Holy Beasts, they are defeated.

Digimon Adventure[edit]

Mugendramon is one of the Dark Masters. He controls the Urban Area of Spiral Mountain and leads the Metal Empire.

After Piemon threw the Chosen Children and Tyumon into a hole in Episode 49, "The Four Dark Masters", he summoned the other Dark Masters: Metal Seadramon, Mugendramon and Pinochimon, and introduced the four of them.

In Episode 56, "Bombing Mission! Mugendramon", Mugendramon was told by two Hagurumon minions about someone entering their internet network from the hospital, which led Mugendramon to order them to set the hospital as the target for an attack. The Hagurumon ordered the Metal Empire forces to deploy. The Hagurumon later panicked as they saw people entering from all over the map at the same time while Mugendramon ordered them to tell him where they were coming from. Mugendramon went for the Chosen Children himself after they reunited. He shot them with his Mugen Cannon, which caused them to get separated.

As Yagami Taichi, Izumi Koshiro and Andromon kept going in the Underground Passage in Episode 58, "Reunion! Overthrow Mugendramon!", Andromon felt someone coming, but rather than Yagami Hikari, it was Mugendramon, who was glad he could kill both the Chosen Children and Andromon, part of a resistance force against him, at the same time. Andromon ordered the rest to hide, and with Agumon convincing Taichi to use the chance to find Hikari, they left Andromon behind. After meeting up with the rest of the team, the Chosen Children went back to Andromon, who had been beaten by Mugendramon. Hikari then walked towards him, seemingly without fear, followed by the Numemon who tried to fight Mugendramon, who merely kicked them away, killing all of them instantly. Hikari's feelings towards the Numemon made her glow, which filled Agumon's body with power, causing him to warp evolve into War Greymon, who then attacked Mugendramon.

Mugendramon is the 68th obligatory boss of the game, fighting the Chosen Children at the end of Episode 58, "Reunion! Overthrow Mugendramon!". He can deal multiple hits to one Digimon with Mugen Cannon, deal damage to one Digimon with Booster Claw, deal multiple hits to the entire party with Catastrophe D, or increase his defense with DEF Charge. He can take two actions per turn thanks to his Continuous Action support ability. After being defeated, he drops the Giga Heal + DigiPiece, which allows the user to perform the namesake technique to heal all the party for 2000 HP.

The Underground Passage started to crumble after Mugendramon's defeat as the Urban Area returned to the Digital World.

After the Chosen Children returned to Subspace from the sea of data in Episode 62, "The Final Dark Digimon", they were taken by a strange light into a new area with six coloured doors, and a seventh door between them with a chain of each colour. Behind the red door, the Chosen Children found Mugendramon. Koshiro asked Taichi to leave it to him and Tentomon as they would not lose to any kind of Machine Digimon. Koshiro's Knowledge flowed into Tentomon's heart, letting him warp evolve into Herakle Kabuterimon for the first time.

Mugendramon is an optional boss fight in Episode 62, "The Final Dark Digimon", obtained if the player got at least 35 points of bond rankings for Koshiro. Tentomon will evolve for the first time into Herakle Kabuterimon for no SP cost and remain in the form for the battle. After being defeated, he drops a DEF Charge Ω DigiPiece, which allows the user to perform the namesake technique to increase an ally's defense by two stages.

With Mugendramon defeated, both the red chain and door disappeared.
